Anyone unfamiliar with soccer, look up Park Ji Sung. Not the most athletic or talented, but had the conditioning to keep going at 110% until the whistle blew at the end of the match. The dude got a huge following just from tenacity and conditioning.

My coach did something like that during summer practice. He spent 2 months doing sprints jumping jacks, push-ups, and sit-ups 2 hours before we got to practice. Our arms felt like noodles and could barely lift anything. One day, we got in trouble, and he canceled practice the rest of the summer and kept us working on our exercises. He told us, "Yes, this is a punishment, and a cruel one at that. I have all the power while you have none of it, and yes, it will get worse, but when you're done, i promise you, you wont be huffing and puffing while your out there. In fact, you will feel fresh and strong." He was right. We hated it, but when it came time, we did not break a sweat

I played division 1 hockey in new england. I had a semi famous coach. If we played like dogshit, (win or lose), the next practice was jocks knee and elbow pads, helmets. He would turn the rink lights off and just put the scoreboard on. We did suicides for a minimum of an hour. At least we were allowed water, but you puked it out anyway. I havent done cardio since.
@Simitachi
@Simitachi 2 жыл бұрын
My high school coaches had something called an "F Troop" which it's titled after a satirical western sitcom from the 60s. If you screwed up badly in a game/practice (fight, stupid penalty, etc.) or forgot a piece of your uniform either for practice or a game, you got F Troop. After your next practice, one of the coaches would put you through some brutal cardio. Dirty 300's (100 yard barrel roll, 100 yard bear crawl, 100 yard back pedal/wheelbarrow), sprints, burpees, etc., you name it, we may have done it during F Troop lmao.

For us in HS basketball, our coach was obsessed with competitive suicides when we’d lose a game we shouldn’t have. We had a guy on the team named Enoch. He was from Africa, insane genetics and could run for days straight. If he kept winning suicides, we kept running. Some practices, especially off season, we’d be running the entire 2 hours because Enoch wouldn’t quit. That jackass lol.

I would start every season with coaching just two things. How to get into incredible shape and what it means to have a team spirit. How to be together and how to get our bodies ready for the entire season. We want to be a team that's in the best shape and has great chemistry. The best player needs the worst players and the worst players need the best players. Only that way we can all reach our potential. After we are in shape and have that strong team spirit,then we would continue to work on team plays and individual skills. PS : isnt that what the Heat is ?

4:11 I LOVE THIS SEQUENCE I mean it's so nice Damien was respected by everybody since he helped the guys with the comeback by scoring his first basket in his debut with the Richmond Oilers under his father Coach Carter which is what made everybody realize they were wrong about Damien for prematurely judging him just cause he is Coach's son I mean especially after the final buzzer when the Oilers won 57-56 when Battle went to Damien gave Damien daps and hugged Damien for his incredible playing, Lyle hugging Damien like a brother @ 4:12, Worm praising Damien, although my favorite part of the clip was Lyle hugging Damien like a brother @ 4:12 I mean Lyle NEVER let go of Damien which is why this sequence was my favorite part of this clip

not only that they also had to raise their grades. imagine coming home exhausted everyday then having to pick up a book and read. yeah kids in school that play sports do it all the time but those kids have been playing that sport for quite some time and if memory serves me right having a high gpa was always part of being in a team. now according to this movie this was the worse team and the kids did not have the best grades.
@cliftoncarnes1974
@cliftoncarnes1974 7 жыл бұрын
sheflashedus I believe they only needed a 2.3 gpa. That's not exactly very high, average at best(literally just over passing level). Not to mention, none of these kids were 100% out of shape, just lazy and selfish when it came to playing. Anyone with the right attitude can turn their life around in less than a half a year. It doesn't take long to build up if your physique is already there(average build). But, it's a movie. No need to dig too hard into this.

because 95% of young basketball players panic. in 12 years of refereeing high school basketball, i've seen it more times than i can count. i don't think it's something that the vast majority of teams/coaches work on, but even if they do, there's something about crunch situations that bring out the worst; or at least, squelch what they have (maybe) been told to do. the most insightful mantra i have ever heard about high school basketball: "there are lots and lots of coaches. there are damn few teachers of the game." how true...

This is the basketball version of Rope-A-Dope. He conditioned his team to burn out their energy to defend. Same with Ali would dance around and make his opponent swing and miss till they have no energy to block anymore. A lot of high school teams back then didn't make their team do cardio besides running shooting and defense drills. When they bumped into a team who was superior in cardio they would lose.

coach said the other team were exhausted while his team was still full of energy so theyre not gonna react well to that risky pass. it's stupid but that's just for storytelling purposes on why he kills his players with training drills.

this pisses me off because it reminds me of my coaches as a kid, and no it didn't play out like this. all that would happen is we would miss layups because we didn't practice actually scoring

That's exactly what I was about to say. Ball controls, passing, reading your own teammates, etc. And once you get to certain amount of stamina, it's about the efficient usage of stamina that matters (and recovery), not having larger tanks of stamina.

The movie explains that these kids were super talented but lacked discipline. Shooting was never a problem, nor layups (look what worm does on a game winning circus shot). Not a regular situation, but its a movie. Cruz was basically Steph Curry.

This movie was filmed at my high school during my junior year. That gym was originally green and yellow with a jackrabbit painted on the wall. In 2004, they painted it red for the entire school year. Samuel L. Jackson is awesome being able to meet him in person. When I did, I thought to myself, *“OMG! I got to meet Mace Windu!😁”*
