For everyone complaining about how long it took to arrive on the scene. Have you ever tried to get on any freeway, or highway with that much traffic, and just had an easy time getting someplace? The fire departments are not located right next to the Interstates. If you think you can do better. PROVE IT.

Reminds me of Morey Amsterdam, reading a radio ad for a car dealer: "Come down and take a look at our cars, there're hot!" Then he added, "Yeah. they probably are!" (Stolen.) Next day he was looking for another job.

The state police usually will not totally shut down a major highway unless there is an incident involving gunfire or there are bodies strewn about the roadway. I was told that the thinking behind this is that the more the traffic back s up the more likely for more accidents to happen in the backup. We had an incident on a local interstate during a snow storm where several vehicles were involved in a crash, debris strewn about the roadway, diesel fuel leaking from a tractor trailer, and an extrication in progress. We begged and pleaded with the state police to shut down the road , but they would not. Cars were slipping and sliding all over adding to the danger. I was on the Hurst tool trying to concentrate on extricating and watching cars getting dangerously close to us. Way to go N.J.S.P.
@landonrodenhofer76628 жыл бұрын
the fd I used to be on wouldn't even ask the police to shut down the highway. if we deemed it necessary for the safety of the crew we would shut down the highway with apparatus blocking the lanes.
@ziree22 Жыл бұрын
If this would happen in the Netherlands.... traffic or no traffic the roads are closed and traffic rerouted.
@easilyhumored12 жыл бұрын
where this fire was vicomtedemusique there no exits for miles and going north bound where the truck was is a mile from the George Washington bridge you can't shut that down it just a real tough stretch of highway
@reallyharried12 жыл бұрын
What I don't understand is why they were not able to stop; reroute traffic in the adjacent lanes, both directions. As soon as the alarm came, couldn't local and county police have closed off affected entrances and made traffic already on the thoroughfare exit? There were a number of explosions from the fire. Couldn't they have affected the other traffic?
@MaxZomboni8 жыл бұрын
Why didn't they just shut the freeway down, and being the equipment from the opposite direction? The traffic shouldn't be moving through the smoke anyway. That could cause a secondary incident.
@scottbilger92948 жыл бұрын
The smoke is going straight up. The fire is separated from moving traffic by the guardrail and a median barrier. All lanes are clear and traffic is moving.
@macofire11 жыл бұрын

since when does traffic ever do the right thing. just as drive on snow and ice the same way they would if it 80 degrees and sunny. so why a car on fire be any different
@lindatoten64524 жыл бұрын
They had plenty of time to re direct traffic or at least get the traffic out of the lane that was needed for emergency vehicles. I didn't see any cops doing anything. Just watched the heavy traffic flying by.

Yrs, they could have redirected the traffic or at least clear a lane for emergency vehicles. That is what our city does. The person filming was standing in a good spot, and then somehow I started seeing so much traffic. It was difficult to see what was going on. Just saying...
