If you EVER want to know what a band of pros sounds like, look no further than this album (Live In Texas). Lyle Lovett is one of the great contemporary American songwriters-up there with the likes of Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Randy Newman, Warren Zevon-anyone you care to name, he's in that rare company...he writes beyond genre, and, at least to me, captures a mood and lets you share it with him. And that, my friends, is no small feat.

+Bob Noxious John Mellencamp?? I'd substitute him with Dan Fogerberg for my list!
@bobnoxious97178 жыл бұрын
stewie poohie yes, John Mellencamp. The thing about personal taste is that it's just that-personal. Dan Fogelberg is another fine artist; the list I made wasn't all-inclusive by any means. James Taylor was a more glaring omission.

You know when you are young you just listen to the music... now much older I listen to the words! I always new of him but never appreciate it him... until a couple of days ago while listening to Keb Mo doing a duet with him! I was floored I was more interested in knowing who the other guy was! Now that I'm older and wiser this man is unbelievable!

Saw Lyle on TV last week and he was saying how he has never had a "HIT", which is very true.He is just this 'great little secret', that if your're lucky, someone introduces you to... In the meantime... he is a genius at living his own life, making a living, doing what he loves and managing to be anonymous, too! I think he is BRILLIANT in so many ways...

saw him at the cambridge folk festival 25th year. didnt know who he was...blew me away, him and nanci griffith changed my life that day...simple as that...one of those gifted, naturally talented performers..great Lyle, thanks..

I have been so lucky to see Lyle around 17 times or so and will be seeing him again this Thursday. He is one of the greatest performers ever. My musical taste runs more towards rock - Rush, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons and Steve Vai to name a few - but Lyle is one of a kind. I will so miss it when he stops touring.

I have been blessed to have seen Lyle twice and his shows are heartfelt and peaceful. a touch of sadness. a pinch of brilliancy and pure joy.

In the late 80's I was on a flight from Atlanta to Dallas and as I checked in at the gate there checking in beside me was Lyle Lovett with his guitar in his hand, hat on. No one else seemed to know who he was. I told him I liked his music. He just smiled, "thanks." I think he was by himself riding business class, maybe first class.

The night she is a true companion They shuffle in They hear the sound But by night's end It's night's abandon You look across the floor Ain't anyone around Closing time Unplug them people And send them home It's closing time Now Kenny he's been mixing sound all evening Sometimes I think that boy He ain't got no ears And Kathy's laughing Kathy's always laughing Well keep on laughing Kathy Just make it out of here Closing time Unplug them people And send them home It's closing time So stack those chairs upon those tables And stack those empties upon that bar And count your money And count my money And hear those bottles ringing You know where you are Closing time Unplug them people And send them home It's closing time The night's all that's left behind You take your part and I'll take mine And go on home It's closing time

I was introduced to Lyle's music in the late 80s by a dear friend, Jim. Soon after, Jim took me to see Lyle. His music became the backdrop to our relationship. I will carry these memories to the end of my days.

If more "country" bands would play from the heart and sound like they're in it for more than the money I would enjoy country more. "Country" singers today are a bunch of top-40 posers for the most part. :(

He's also a very nice and humble person. I got on a hotel elevator with him one time and he held the elevator for a woman who was hurrying with a suitcase. My daughter and I were in Louisville for the World Equestrian Games, and he had a horse in the reining division, and he asked us if we were there for the games, etc. Such a really nice guy.

Your right. I was always drawn to people like Lyle, Tom Waits, Jackson Brown, Jesse Winchester, Johonathan Edwards, John Prine, Etc..not really hit makers but write and sing beautifully and I have covered them for 20 years. Just bringing back one of Jesse's songs now...Closing time..love to sing it.

I'm taking a walk... to go see Martha! I know that all guys on the corner think that she is fine! Though she is a Jersey girl I meet downtown on a train... I wasn't hoping that I just fall in love with her... I told her to hurry up... soon it will be closing time! The night ended and I just wave bye bye!
