Saw Lyle Lovett in Cardiff St David's Hall in the early 90's. Only about 8 or 10 of us were in the audience. Bless him, he called everyone to the front of the stage and performed the most intimate concert. He was absolutely brilliant and even played requests, I asked for 'This old Porch'. Wonderful man, wonderful musician. 👍🏴

Lovett’s video of this song was filmed on the Main Street of my hometown of Bryan, which I left when I joined the army in 1971. I never thought that I’d miss the place, but as I near my 70th birthday this song really gets into my heart. So many memories…

I live in a little cotton town west of phoenix. Grew up on the family farm. Worked the mesquite thickets on the side fixin fences and sorting brangus cows. Walked a million miles of cotton fields and rode a million miles of fences on horses and old bent pickups. This song, aside from the names of locations, is my hometown to a T. So much it makes heart hurt in a beautiful way.

I'm black, Jamaican and female. Good music can reach anyone. This is one of my favourite songs by LL. You say porch we say veranda same impact a place to sit, talk watch and remember. Tried to get my husband to listen but there is only so much you can do with a Jamaican DJ!!

Such a great song, but also, Lyle is phenomenal in concert. Gave the background on this song at one of his concerts, and it really added to the song a whole new level. Especially talking about their landlord at the house on Northgate. Beautiful stuff!

I've had the pleasure of attending 3 performances of Lyle and his Large Band. Most recently in Akron, Ohio. It's always a moving experience. Modestly priced tickets and move than a dozen top notch musicians on the stage. If you have the chance do go and see him in concert. So wonderful.

This song just reachs inside and touches something inside ... definitely evokes Texas, but there is something more. LL & REK really outdid themselves on this one. Have enjoyed it for years.

My favorite Lyle song. This guy is real....not a phoney. Love the musicianship ( is that a word ? ) of people like cellist John Hagen and Viktor Krauss. Saw them live in Victoria, B.C. some years go. Please come back. Acoustic or large band. From a fan on Vancouver Island.

This is song, without fear of argument, is genius songwriting. Performance-wise, his younger renditions of it were tidier

Capo on the 8th. Wow. Always been a pretty song, even REK's take on it.
