Thank you so much for publishing this on KZbin! Only him could be so emotionnal, so expressive. What a diletante can find in this music : the wild caracter, warm sound, so contrasted, tenderness, passion, this mauresque influence in Spain,.... in a piece which was played and played and still is so fresh and unic. What a hapiness to listen to him...

Leonid Kogan, geb. 14. Nov.1924 in Jekaterinoslav (heute: Dnjepropetrowsk, Ukraine), gest. 17.

So why do you prefer Shaham?
@MrFpam12 жыл бұрын
Vladimir says Kogan is a genius and you say he is a true maestro and yet you both prefer other versions! Very strange! It was written by the great Spanish virtuoso violinist Sarasate for violin and piano, so there is no point in saying it sounds best with guitar accompaniment! Many of Sarasate's pieces have been very effectively arranged for violin and orchestra.

I prefer the Shaham version. Kogan is a genius!!
@mcciftci12 жыл бұрын
i also prefer the other versions. not because of the virtuosos or something, this somance sounds more spanish with piano (best sounds with guitar accompaniment). Kogan is a truly maestro, and i also don't get why @Vladimir Vasquez got to many negative votes
@mcciftci12 жыл бұрын
Yes, Kogan is a virtuoso, so do Shaham. It doesn't mean that every virtuosos every interpretation is great. For instance, Itzhak Perlman's Introduction& Tarantella is not so good; i don't say he plays awful, he doesn't sound as Sarasate dreamed. This piece is a romance, but this orchestral version sounds like a carnaval piece! It's not about Kogan's playing, it's about the orchestra. There is not anything that offends you, if you didn't write the orchestral parts.

Almost no recording is perfect, especially not if it's a live performance. But you have again made a value judgement and stated it as fact. Anyone is entitltled to an opinion, but it must be regarded as subjective and not as the definitive truth. You may prefer Hahn in Bach to Tchaikovsky; others may disagree!
@glaucoma8885 жыл бұрын
Inherent in a person expressing their feelings about a performance is that it is their value judgement and so it is for them a fact. There are no definitive performances (not even by the composer) and there are no definitive truths about a musical performance.
@MrFpam12 жыл бұрын
Who are you to criticize Perlman's playing? Do you know better what Sarasate wanted? He was a great virtuoso, and as his recordings show, tended to play everything very fast. The orchestra makes the Romanza sound even more like a romance, but it is possible that Sarasate would have preferred the version with piano. You are entitled to your preferences, which are of course subjective, but I don't approve of judgements stated in a way as if they are fact.

This is rather well done (though the offbeat accents are clearly a knock off from the scherzo of the Lal Symph. Espagnole)..but all in all my favourite is Erica Morini.
@mcciftci12 жыл бұрын
you know, every virtuosos every recording is not excellent. Hahn plays Bach S&P wonderful, maybe the best interpretation that ever played after Bach, but she is not that wonderful with Tchaikovsky. you are not anybody's lawyer or something. i hope you're a violinist that mastered all techniques and you're talking with that background; therefore you'll understand or tolerate what i'm saying. nothing to offend. we are not here to argue, we are music lovers! enjoy the music, my friend. best regards

Even Eugene Fodor plays a better version. I never liked Kogan. Very harsh when he is supposed to be playing forcefully. Just a matter of my taste.
