Did you know that when they first started out, Leonid could not get the Chicago sheet music in Russia, so he wrote out all the parts by ear? If you listen to some of their early Chicago-covers, they are spot on. It is amazing...........and I am also saying that as a musician. (and someone who knows the lead singer in this song) Alan Parsons did an interview not long ago with the Professor of Rock KZbin channel.........always good to see some of the greats from that era still with us.

The most amazing thing about this group is that most of them cannot understand or speak English, which proves the tremendous power of music. When Leonid started this group he didn’t have any of the music sheets, didn’t understand English, and sometimes didn’t even have proper instruments (they made guitars from spare parts). He transcribed the music onto paper by isolating each sound, instrument, and voice, individually. Most people don’t realize what musical talent, perfect pitch, and knowledge is necessary to do this. It truly is an amazing accomplishment, especially on the part of Leonid, and he is so humble he simply plays among the musicians as if he is only a background bass guitarist. What a guy! We have seen them every time they’ve come to the Atlanta/Tennessee/Carolina area; this Friday will be the fourth time. We can’t wait to see them again; they’re a great, friendly group of people.

Yes Ksenia's English is very good. She's very sweet in person. She was a little embarrassed because her hand was sticky from the strawberry 🍓 (I think) shake she had just purchased (this was 2 years ago). Konstantin seems to understand pretty well. Along with a couple of others. Igor's English wasn't so good (I can speak about 3 Russian words). But through a translator, no problem. Igor's drumming is truly phenomenal.

The original composer of this song, David "Hawk" Wolinski and I were "besties" at one time and played together in a band out of Chicago called Bangor Flying Circus. Hawk wrote this later for Chaka, who is was playing with. It's great to hear the song covered so well and with such respect for the original. Sid Sims

Friggin Hell!!! Leonid's ARRANGEMENT is divergent and super complicated but totaly retains the original groove and vibe, so hard to do. Of course the players and singers are stellar (love the bass kick into the groove) and even though Igor is always my hero on these songs EVERYBODY killed me on this one. And Ksenia is SO SO good without over singing. The magic of music folks, this group has it in spades.

True musicianship is not just playing well. It is also playing well with other musicians and putting your ego last and the music first. This group has reached the pinnacle of ensemble playing. Plus, all the music they choose is very complicated. Each piece is filled with a roller coater ride of dynamics and though they are like a fireworks show the subtleties and delicate "brushwork" in their playing is dazzling. If their performances were paintings they would show a thousand different shades and colors and they would all go together for a perfect scene. There's nothing rote about their playing and nothing they play is simple yet they play as a totally integrated and well oiled machine but... a machine with soul. I get goosebumps listening to and watching their videos. In person they must be breathtaking. Bravo!!!
