Glorious Christine Schafer. One should watch and listen to all of this La Traviata again.

fabulous singing and acting. To be able to act out abjection like this, as Kaufmann does, is extraordinary.

JK: Gran actor y gran cantante.

What an unimaginative stage direction: full of cliches, staignant positioning of chorus members. The singers are definitively good, particularly Schaffer. I would prefer a lyric tenor for Alfredo, though. I am happy I saw it, though, Thanks for sharing.

Mr.Kaufmann: You are a great singer and you don't need to perform La Traviata as you did.The direction is worst. Poor Verdi!

The only saving grace of this particular production is that it's actually pretty hysterically funny. Wasn't even Kaufmann barely able to keep from laughing at one point? It of course makes it all amusing to watch, but strangely not in synch with the tragic subject. But then again.. who cares? Not like this opera has a particularly meaningful moral message. A kind of 19th century 'Pretty Woman' deal about a rescued prostitute. Dream on. Now if they do this to Fidelio, i will be pretty upset.

I think it does, really. It's a good drama. It's worth considering, why a woman we first see surrounded by people at a party says in the next act that she has no friends, and dies almost alone. It's an indictment of some elements of society.. However, re: this production, I have to say that compared to some of Marthaler's other work, this looks almost good (on the evidence of the few clips I've seen). I would gnaw my own arm off to get away from watching his Tristan or Tales of Hoffmann again.

ArtShouldBeBeautiful Well I guess you know by now that they did do this to Fidelio. Almost no opera is off-limits from the avant-garde Regis today. Some work and some don't. I struggle with this all the time. Keep on supporting opera though.🤓
