@@LeonTodd man it’s hands down the best sounding delay I’ve ever used. It really blows the flashback away. You can get so many different sounds from 1 delay type just with the shaping features it’s so good. The big plus for me though is just how well it works with high gain. That’s really what I was after something that sat really well behind my main sound but still sounded huge and great. Boss totally nailed it. Has me curious about the other 200 series is the od200 any good? I’m kind of skeptical about the drive sounds.

To this date I still prefer the 500 series over the Strymons. The 200 delay and mod are fine if you're not interested in deep editing and a double effect, but Source Audio makes interesting competition, especially now that the Collider is out. As to the MD-500, the Terraform only does one effect. So I want an MD-500, but the waiting times are fairly long at the moment: at least two weeks. Sigh. I have to say though that my favourite Strymon pedal by now is the Volante. See the other message how I feel in love with tape echo...
@LeonTodd3 жыл бұрын
I could easily see the need for a dd500 for all the "standard" delays and a Volante for the rest :D

I have the original Kong SDD 300 Rack Unit. The unit's real magic is in the preamp. It's independent from the actual delay. The delay can be off but the preamp is still in the signal chain. It's one of the Edge's secrets to his tone. These units can't replicate that aspect of the rack unit unfortunately.

hey thanks for this, really appreciate it. A great vid thoroughly going through the pedal, super nice. Tho yeh I've been working with the DD6 for years, but as you know I'm sure, it's been discontinued....so this may be the new replacement - and to be able to preset delays, that's great for doing the larger shows, and know that things are set up nicely. I use a couple of the DD6's in my set up, it looks this one does what the DD6 does, but is even more developed obviously, is that right?.....it's that 300ms that I love!!

So then I am asking this, since this was an in depth demo: 1. For how long can you wait using the TAP/CTL to TAP in a certain amount of LONG delay? Since the limit is 10 seconds, one thought one should do a TAP from anything from 1 ns to 9999 ms, but I never got one to trigger/register properly above 1 second. Is there a limit to what amount of milliseconds the TAP switch holds? There are numerous occasions live, where I like to MULTIPLY the BPM, to be able to play harmony licks, so I play a line first klick the tap in (while playing) and wait a few seconds (several bars in drumming and music) before I press it a second time, and the line comes back in the repeats but lasting a few bars, in time with the drummer and music. Like canon singing...

The big problem with these designs by Boss is you can only go up or down through the patches one foot press of two switches at a time. I mean having 200 presets is great, but who wants to press both foot switches 50 times to get from one patch to another.
@DaBlupp4 жыл бұрын
Geoff F66 a bit late to the party, but you can actually hold the exit button and then use the time knob to quickly skip through the patches. Not optimal but better than the 2 footswitch option

What is the longest delay time in stereo in the DD-500? I got the DD-20 and i got 27 sec. Long of delay in stereo. In the specs in Boss website they say 10 sec. in stereo. This DD-500 is supposed to be an upgrade of the DD-20 why they cut on the length?
@henkehakansson20048 ай бұрын
It's 10 seconds. However, if A/B simul mode is used, and on top of that SERIES mode, you can actually get a 20 second long delay. But here is the catch, only at the first initial repeat, the rest of the feedbacks are at 10 seconds, because the algorithm doesn't allow the feedback to be put in from B unit into the A patch again. It only feedbacks/repeats in B unit. When you play one note. it sails through the A unit (without feedback/repeats, set to 0, just one delayed signal) and then directly into the B unit since it is series, and then only there it starts to repeat/feedback to whatever that setting is at, and that one can only be set to 10 seconds. If you set this feedback setting (on B) to 0. It actually WILL sound 20 seconds after since this is the lone repeat. But it can only be set to sound once, with no decay feedback/repeat settings. The use for such a delay is quite limiting IMHO. They cut on the length because they thought 10 seconds on each A/B would be sufficient enough. And if people want longer you really can use the FEEDBACK LOOP (but in mono) to send AUX out to external gear (another delay perhaps) and then back in again, and then you can increase the maximum delay time as much as you want. That "another delay" hasn't got to be another DD-500, or TimeLine or posh fancy high end gear. Just another simple delay with long delay possibilites. Most small form factor delay pedals, has this long delays as a hidden feature. TC Electronics all FlashBack delays has 7 seconds if you want them to. But to set DD-500 to use it as an additional efx/send return takes up the stereo in and outs, and you can only use that feature in mono. It's a SYSTEM WIDE setting. Then if you keep that physical setting with 2 extra patch cables, you have to program every other preset for this setup too. In mono. Say for every preset that doesn't need that extra pedal in the chain, you must program every preset to 0 setting in the feedback loop, so the external delay don't mess with your settings for each preset. Just some. A serious trade off, for sure.

I know it's 2½ years later, but I've not seen your video on it, so here's my response.... Honestly, I remember when the DD-20 came out, but I went with the Line6 Echo Park around that time (the maker of that is now Meris). Its rotary just went from 8th notes, 4th notes, etc, ping pong, reverse, sweep, swell, slap & ducking, but you could choose betwee digital, analog and tape. And that's how in love with tape echo. Anyway, it's input jack broke :(. So I'm looking for another delay / delay+reverb.
@Javier-qk7ms5 жыл бұрын
So if I want pin-pong I choose the dual mode? Can it be a pnig pong analog or ping ping tape? Is it the same tone as the actual analog and tape modes?
@joaozubelli3745 жыл бұрын
Javier Aldan you can also use presets A and B at the same time, you just gotta set it up that way. so you can have a tape preset in A and a analog in B for example
