Some very Robert Fripp I Advanced Masked era tones going on in this video, Leon. It's very cool to see you exploring that. It's an impressive pedal. There was a road by the name Volante Rd. along to the railroad track that ran into Lakehurst from Lakewood and points north. Apparently it is translated from Italian as either 'wheel' (noun) or 'flying' (verb). Nice soaring sounds, so probably leaning toward 'flying'....
@italoop78503 жыл бұрын
Volante is the steering wheel. It is also the gerund for "flying" but in this case it's the first meaning, with a twist. Not sure why the used the word VOLANTE here. My idea is that the drum disc recording surface is a plain VOLANO, a commonly used part in many mechanical devices, so they probably used the word out of that, adding a twist to it. Like the flying volano...

The release of the Boss RE-202 has me revisiting Volante videos and this is one of my favorites (the other being Strymon’s with Vanessa Wheeler). I’d love if you could do a comparison with those two delays.
@LeonTodd2 жыл бұрын
Thankyou! I had an RE202 on loan and did some clips with it but it's going back, and I flipped the Volante to fund another gear purchase a few months ago so couldn't do a side by side. The Volante generally feels a little "deeper" when it comes to tweaking things like the head panning, modulation and the sound on sound looper while the RE202 thrives as a tactile "what you see is what you get" machine with a few extra bells and whistles.

Great video. Awesome tone, as expected. Strymon is awesome, but I consider it "pro level" gear. I would love a Big Sky, but it's too expensive. I am not a pro player. I just ordered a new piece of gear. Should be here this week hopefully. A pedal. A Behringer FX600. Hehehe! $37 USD. Yeah.... should be fun to play around with. That's about my speed, when it comes to buying new gear! I already have the Boss Katana... but I thought it would be fun to have an external pedal, where I can dial-up an extra effect if I want! I think it has 6 different effects in it.

Do you think, it can do something like a analog delay sound too? Maybe the wear knob pretty high, to simulate the degrading top end of analog delay repeats... @LeonTodd3 жыл бұрын
That was actually part of my motivation to get one. Keen to see how close I can get the multitap Delay. Any particular settings/presets you want to replicate?
@camheiliger3 жыл бұрын
@@LeonTodd Great question - the multi-tape delay should be able to handle the Studio and Tape settings from the pedal - I think the modulation is the key. Can you recreate some of the drum delay sounds or some of the more intense warble settings on the pedal using modulation and EQ settings in the FM3? I'm sure it can be done - will just take some exploration. I also think one of the keys to the pedal is how easy it is to turn on/off repeats - that is a great creative tool - is there a way to "recreate" that using controllers or other switches on the FM3? Thanks!

Have been working for a while with this gizmo and I think Strymon missed big this time! Such articulated product would have benefit a lot by keeping the same interface as the other large Strymon pedals, with a real display where crucial parameters could be displayed (delay time, BPM value-MIDI Clock, etc.). The really poor MIDI implementation is totally idiotic! The need to send a program change to store a preset is moronic! And the absence of MIDI SysEx support is a crime. Now... of course it doesn't replicate any tape machine because you simply can't... BUT it has a number of very interesting features hardly available in a pedal... being a multitap delay. I am writing a library, a new one, cascading the TIMELINE>VOLANTE or VOLANTE>TIMELINE and I can assure you this combo can get some amazing effects if programmed right. In rackdomain things are much easier and better when doing this kind of things but these two pedals offer enough beef for some interesting echo experimentation. Too bad Strymon doesn't want to hear about true line level hardware implementation... but of course I'm covered by way better rack processors. So... stay tuned as TIMELINE>VOLANTE // VOLANTE>TIMELINE cascades are coming soon!
