Pick any tone on Billy Idol's Rebel Yell album. The middle break in Eyes Without a Face is as pure a cranked Marshall tone as there ever was.

I really love the tone Papa Roach got with the JMP-1 in the song "She loves me not"... 12 - 14 seconds in. So sick. Or, Zakk Wylde with the JCM800 on Ozzy's Perry Mason track. Orrr Slash with the JCM900 on You Could Be Mine.

@@LeonTodd I'm actually watching those Plek videos right now, glad that it turned out so much better after the setup! I think I have the same Greco (late 80s/early 90s) and I'm having a bit of trouble coming into terms with how it plays but after seeing yours turn out great after it got plek'd gives me hope that mine can be better after a really good setup.

Hey Leon thanks for another awesome video / review thisnis a bit unrelated but I have some burning Q's about pickups - a slightly cheaper rabbit hole than amps, speakers or cabs right LOL. I'm looking for something different for my swamp ash body - roasted maple neck super strat. Any recommendations based on where im at bellow would he amazing : * Ive tried these and a ew more so for but pretty much, anything like a Seymour 59, distortion, trem bucker , Saturday special and definitely the JB did NOT work for me; all of them had some drawbacks- mainly the JB which I can't wrap my head around, yes it was the most recorded pickup of the late 70s, 80s but it's too damn hot and too much of everything really lol. The 1 way it sounded OK and got t very steve stevens esque was : *swapping in an alnico 2 mag *300k gibson pots *adding on a nickel cover ^ But the results still weren't great , everything sounded too hot most of the time probably due to the high output of jb 16k ^ Any kind of paf was the opposite , for non master amps back in the day like the SLP or plexi I understand that in studio a low output paf worked great for those late 70s, early 80s tones because pedals or additional eq was the only way back then to drive an amp into a more hard rock tone. * On the opposite side of things imstead of "hot pickups" , for lower output pickups say around 7-10k is pretty low output and beautiful for cleans, but pretty underwhelming on my 2 morris amps. the pickups I listed before that were dimarzios or seymours in the higher out put range lacked clarity or had too much clarity / cut, were bright as hell and too tubby fizzy sounding In the bass. ^ Are their any bridge pickups you can recommend? SD, dimarzio, bareknuckle, friedman, suhr or other brands that worked well for you when playing anything hard rock lynch, vh, ozzy, gnr , Billy idol type stuff ? I know it's all very individual, but maybe you had a swamp ash body guitar or any guitar really that you went down the same path with and swapped a few pickups through to find a similar result ? Any feedback tips on your experience and examples of pickups that fit this description would be extremely helpful so I have a better reference of ones to try / ones to avoid. Thanks in advance and keep rocking! 🙏🙏🤟🤟

sounnds great! I think the real amp had a smidge less gain here, and a bit less of the 4-6k fizz. Makes no real difference ultimately, they both DO THE THING

Man, what great tone.. I could totally gig with that tone.. Just those two patches would totally make me able to jam with about anyone! Very, very cool sir.. I forgot about that song "balls to the wall".. I used to play that a long long time ago! What a great song and UDO is the man! 😛 Very cool.. Both sounded great to me and I couldn't tell the difference. I was reading reviews on reverb of the FM3 and many people said it sounded and even felt like a real tube amp and that they were getting the best tone's of their life.. I'm still looking for a used one.. The prices are starting to get affordable for me.. I hope the axe edit is available for windows 10.. ? Thanks brother.. Be safe and well my friend! Tim

out of curiosity, why did you use an 800 model in the axe and not a jmp?
@LeonTodd
@LeonTodd Жыл бұрын
Marshall used various 3 letter badges for different era's of production while also having specific model numbers. 2203/2204 denote the master volume models(2203 for 100w, 2204 for 50w), which were produced largely with the JCM800 badge. However there are JMP badged 2203/2204 amps as well. The classic Plexi/Super Lead amps are denoted as 1959 circuits, and Marshall actually made some JCM800 badged 1959 circuits. it gets confusing! Long story short, this is a 2203 circuit. The closest thing in the Axe-Fx is the Brit 800 model (which is actually a 2204 circuit). The "JMPre" models in the Axe-Fx are based on the JMP-1 preamp from the 90's.
@johnevered9640
@johnevered9640 Жыл бұрын
@@LeonTodd ah yeah I knew that the jmp models were to do with the rack units and not the actual amps (was meaning like a plexi model when I said that!) but I had no idea about the extremely confusing history of Marshall badging, thanks!!
