@@LeonTodd I had G21/75 cones and Greenbacks mixed for years with my JCM 2000 tsl head and my PRS (vintage yellow) limited edition custom 22. I had the G21/75 in a 2x12 cabinet on the top and the Greenbacks in a 2x12 cabinet on the bottom. But when I moved to India I switched over to just using Marshall 1922 ... 2x12 cabinets (I have 2 of these) so I know which speaker combinations I have a preference for. The KZbin videos get compressed to fuck so the younger people of today have no idea what something is meant to sound like ... you need to sit ina good-sized room warm the El34 tubes up and dial the amp in. *Then you will know how these speakers rip ...*

I have three Marshall cabs with 75’s in them, I’ve owned a few in the past as well, all 75’s. I grew up in the 80’s, I was weened on these things, it’s what I know. I bought some Vintage 30’s, fucking haaaaaaaated them, shrill to the max. Granted they were brand new and not broken in, I couldn’t get rid of them fast enough so I’ll assume it was because they weren’t broken in. Give me a 2203, a well worn 800 cab with seasoned 75’s, I’m good to go, perfect match. I believe the 75’s were designed for the 800 series. Celestion considered them a “super” higher powered greenback. It’s not that 75’s are scooped compared to a greenback, it’s more full range and the greenback lacks bottom and top when pushed so all you’re left with is mids. A pushed 75 loaded cab is as classic as it gets, for me. Slayer, Yngwie, on and on and on, these speakers are proven. I don’t trust people that don’t like cats or G12T-75’s.

You should have tried mixing broken in V-30's with the 75's in the same cab. I'll agree that the V-30's are a bitch to break in. The best way is to run them at a low frequency uninstalled where they don't make much noise. Then again if you like the 75's, in your rig, why mess with it?! I have a set of 75's in my closet left over from a cabinet that got destroyed. My current rig has 2xV30's and 2xG12H-75' creambacks in a 1960B cab and playing through a Bad Cat lynx head (since you mentioned cats lol). I'm really impressed with the all around tone of the cab but there is a bit of upper mid spike with most vintage tubes I have rolled through the amp.

With over 30 years playing many different Marshall cabs / heads and different Celestion and other speakers , the G12T 75 are the best speakers for me . For ANY type of playing and sound levels . I have always been pleased with them . Especially when you start pumping some watts into them , they really come alive and sound even more awesome . No harsh highs , perfect mids , rich bottom end . All I could want . To the point where if you plug any head / amp into a 4x12 G12T75 loaded cab , that superb signature Marshall sound will be there .

Propably the most underrated Celestion speaker ever. I have Marshall 2x12 cab with the g12t75s and theres absolutely nothing wrong with it. I've had also vintage 30s, greenbacks and some Eminence speakers and they all do good job in their own place. I think you and I are the only people that love G12T75's. I've heard the 25 watt green backs, the Celestion 30's and the Celestion G12T75's in their cabs and I like the total sound of the 75's the best... Good video! I like the sound and tone of your combination amp and cab very much.. Good day.....
@BillyEatWorld
@BillyEatWorld 6 жыл бұрын
I really think T75's can hold their own against just about anything, but obviously it depends on how you're using them They've got a nice low end and a lot of presence which blends well with mid focused speakers like the V30, but are obviously going to sound spikey with a bright amp. I think the main reason the G12-65 and G12T-75 got a bad rep in the 80's is because when they shipped with the 800 it was a different sound to what people we're used to; but I'd argue these days they're probably more useful than greenbacks are. Not to mention they don't blow up quite nearly as often as greenbacks did back in the day. Obviously when it comes to high power speakers, these days we're spoiled for choice with the creamback series; but if you're on a budget you'll get 4x used G12T-75's for the price of one new G12M creamback.

I still am stupified as to why that is! The Celestion T75 is an amazing speaker and its still listed as the standard bearer for Marshall cabinets. I even have two of the Mode Four MF400B Cabinets with the even rarer Celestion G12-K100 100watt speakers, that absolutely roar, especially when paired with a valved Marshall. I play a UK jcm 2k dsl50 through a US 1995 Ampeg VL straight 412 cab that is loaded with UK made t75’s. This combo of head and cab just kills. I have to say though, it kinda takes a trained ear to realize how special the UK made 75’s really are. Playing alone, without accompaniment they can come off a little brash and rude, both clean and distorted, but their true glory is realized in the mix. Throw in the drums and bass and these speakers slice through the mix like a ninja. The rich harmonic nods and highs are right inside your skull while the bass and drums are massaging your plums. I play small stages and venues with this rig, with just a few floor wedge monitors. My bassist refuses to play on the opposite side of the stage with our other guitarist. He says although he can hear the other guitarists Mesa cab, he doesn’t enjoy the sound and musicality the way he does on my side. I play an Sg, the other guitar plays a music man. We play a grunge style and through all that sludge my lead tone is articulate and sharp.

Some of the under-the-radar gear is actually good. The DSL sounded really good with the G12T-75 ! One aspect to consider is that the cab is probably very well-built. I realized recently that modding one of my cabs so the speaker is really tightly attached to the box and the wood itself, with big screws and additional wood made the same speaker sound much better so i advise everybody and everyone to tighten their cabs screws and put wood glue in old cabs to make them stronger, which, in my experience, equates to bigger tone.

Bought a late 1980s Crate G250 Solid State, open back amp with two of these installed (don't know if they were stock) that pushes 150 watts RMS at 4 ohms, and these sound real good for the clean tones. The built in distortion doesn't sound too bad either. Sort of good in the studio for a reference amp to try guitars and foot pedals out. Only cost $110 in very good condition, so I went for it at the local GC. I don't regret it. I have plenty of tube amps, so this amp surprised me and the speakers are interesting. They seem pretty clean and open sounding to me, with a fairly balanced frequency response. I read where other folks say you got to give them time to break in, and this one probably had some fair amount of use, but was well maintained. Apparently, Stevie Windwood was an endorser for this amp from a poster I saw for sale researching it online. Not much info out there though.

Celestion's biggest customer for a long time was Marshall so it would make sense that speakers by them over the years reflect the changes of sound that occurred when Marshall would release different series of amps. But we also see that over time Celestion branched out into a wider array of sound profiles in their product line. The idea that any one speaker is going to work with every type of amp, pickup, fx, or music genre seems to be a hang up that too many players fall into believing.

@@TheNocturnalEvil g12t75 speakers were released in 1984 and they were created to use in Marshall cabinets. The g1265 was phased out in 1982 - 83.

@@timbuk1126 Most musician those days didn't play on the latest gear. They used old cabs with G12-65 speakers. Many people forget the fact that the amps used by many of those bands were often bought from pawn shops. Many of them used even older cabs with G12M Greenback or Blackback speakers.

I love these speakers…I gig with these with my Marshall JVM205H and they sound epic. Im one of two guitarists and this setup works great in the mix! I have no idea why people hate these so much…maybe it’s the humble sticker in the back? No idea why because these sound great to my ears

I've owned a number of 1960 cabinets over the years. I found that the only amp I really like them with is a JCM2000 DSL (I have a 100 watt head). That head and those speakers seem to be made for each other.

That probably sounds real good. Not being too heavy a player myself, but more of a simple pop-rocker MOR type, I gave up on heavy and hard to move by myself 4x12 cabs decades ago, but I can imagine how good your rig sounds. I had a Carvin XB-100 head and Carvin 4x12 cab back in the 1990s that sounded truly righteous.

Hah, I'm so happy to see your comment! I have the same combo. As well as a 6505+ head, that sounds decent enough with the 1960 cab. But it's time to find the perfect match for that amp itself, cause nothing beats the combo of the 2000 with a 1960.

In a recent shootout I watched, these sounded by far the best in every category but maybe one. Overall, really impressive. I doubt I'll replace my speaker as I don't crank my amp enough for it to really make a difference for me but I like to dream

I use a Park "A type" cab with quad white label vented G12T75's. Not a single person ever told me that cab sounds weak. Also have a 90's Marshall 1960B with non vented white labels and that one is slightly darker. Both are great for recording.

Love 75’s with my tucana 3, have early 90’s 4x12, just picked up 2 1985 with the vents in the back , they sound sweet too. Gone full circle ,had 75’s in the beginning ,tried every celestion in between and now I’m back there again 😀 Sounds great Leon

I don't know ... G12T-75 always sound harsh compared to V30. I have to dial back the presence so much and it's not the cab itself, since I've used a G12T-75 in a 1x12 as well and the comparision to a V30 is still the same - harsh high end.

Just grabbed an 1960A cab with the T75s for a steal for my DSL 100, these are beasts, just plug and play for me, tbh. I find lots of classic tones from the 80s and 90s, if the speaker is a "mystery" and you see a Marshall cab onstage, it's probably the T75. My Crue, Green Day and first Foos record tones are spot on with these

Ok, so I just bought a, from what I can figure out given the serial number situation, a JCM 900 1960a built between 89'-92', or there abouts, and I just cracked the back to see, and they certainly had the original English made '75s. I can't for the life of me think why any one would think this cab sounds bad, but I am really glad people do, because I got mine for an incredible price, and its 8.5/10 condition.

Hi Leon. May I please ask if you might be willing to do a video with the G12T-75 and your Carvin V3? I know that the V3 can be a little (a lot) toppy and fizzy if not set properly, so I was curious to see if the G12T-75 makes this takes any more challenging? I think it would otherwise just be interesting to see what such a combination might sound like? Thank you

tsl 100 on top 900 lead 1960a. i love it got 5 amps and its always a pleasure to get it fired up. good show case. but i did eventually swap out 2 for v30 in a x pattern and its pretty sweet. very versatile. love the vids and keep up the good work.

The best sounding cab I've ever had was a Marshall 30th Anniversary bottom which is just a 1960B in blue tolex I guess. I paired it with 1981 2203 and the crunch tone was truly mean.

I have a very similar setup, a DSL 50 with a 1960 cab that has two 75s like yours, and two G12-65s, from '79 and '82, and funnily enough they sound very similar to each other. Agree on the right settings, my trick to making an amp work with 75's is to start by leaving mids maxed, then treble and bass on zero and adding those to your liking, to counteract the already mid scooped voicing of the speaker.
