I have heard every rendition of this aria on KZbin, and this is absolutely the best!! Ms. Price's voice is rich, clear and powerful. By contrast, many other performers use muddy weeping voice at the lower notes, and scream at the higher notes. There is just no comparison. Price is the best soprano ever.

I happened to be home alone this evening KZbin surfing and came across this performance by Madame Price! I don't know much about Opera , have not paid it that much attention but I decided to watch this video. I immediately understood that I was being given a magnificent gift. How could anything so beautiful , so wondrous as what I was hearing come from a human being? Now here's the thing, I am a grown 77-year-old man. And here I am lying on this sofa with tears running down my face,. I suppose I should be ashamed to admit that, but somehow I'm not, I'm just not! Thank you Ms Price for your stunning gift to me and to the world.

The fact that she's still alive at her late 90s make it the more better. She can still sing, I tell you that for sure. Very very few opera singers are gifted. Most singers work hard to find a voice for themselves. Only rarely you hear opera singers sing well into their 80s and 90s like Pryce. May God give you strength Miss Pryce.

I remember watching the Diva perform Tosca on television when I was a kid. I had never seen an opera, had no idea what was going on but her sound and that magnificent carriage fascinated me. Truly the Stradivarius of singers.

The first time I heard this song by Ms Price, I was 10 yrs old. I refused to listen to anyone else. When I saw her at the Kennedy Center, the last song of 5 encores was this song. My dream came true. To this day after 50 yrs, I still stand by my words. I refuse to listen to anyone but Ma Price.☺️💐

The tone, the emotion, and the depth of the Aflat coming off the high Bflat (to me thats the best note in the aria)...its like this subtle, heartbreaking cry.

Clara no, Zelmira is correct. Leontyne’s voice was one of the most open, technically correct voices in the entire era of recording. More modern singers have smaller, more congested, and, even, nasally voices - which is the current standard. Her example remains a standard for all servants (as Maria Callas once called all opera singers, musicians) of the art form. I can’t recall hearing a singer with such power, balance, and uniformity of my generation.

I study classical voice...left my DMA program and became a physician. Was the right decision for me. I am still singing and probably own most books written on vocal pedagogy. I coached with David Garvey at UT. He was he accompanist for most of her recitals. I heard her in recital at UT when I was a doctoral student in the mid 80’s.

I met her voice almost 40 years ago in "il trovatore - tacea la notte placida" on LP. Her voice went to a higher note spilling around me - You know what I mean - only she can sing like this. My God, who is it? I listened to the aria over and over again. Clash with Leontyne Price. No one has a beautiful voice like her. "Bitter" in the low register and angelic in the high notes. She cannot be confused with anyone else. I'm an opera fool I have. My friends find it annoying. The first opera love is forever love.

Leontyne Price left so many outstanding recordings of "Vissi d'arts" both in the studio and mostly live. Like the RONDINE aria, it was a signature encore and her command of it was often staggering in its vocal perfection. The opening alone is a master class in moving the voice easily, seamlessly, and with subtle skill in and out of the passaggio in the lower portion of her range. The tone is gorgeous with all the spin she was famous for. It's hard to believe she was often criticized for having not having a good low range, but it was a real feature of her singing for a long time. It would become gusty as she aged, but in her early and middle prime, her voice was all of a piece. Of course, from "per che" on, Price is in the zone, spinning up to that Bflat, the breath control is staggering. Very few sopranos have this kind of coordination, and she has plenty of breath in reserve to finish the aria with luxuriant breath spans. This is the kind of singing the results in delirium and pandemonium from an adoring audience. I saw her a lot in the 70s--AIDA, MANON LESCAUT, FORZA, MADAMA BUTTERFLY, ARIADNE and those final AIDAs, where she delivered "bigly" in the Nile scene. You are much missed, Leontyne.
