I was wondering what Capt. Steve was up to lately. Didn't know about this channel. Relieved to accidentally come across it. *subscribed.

It’s nice to be back watching your reviews Capt. Steve! I was wondering if maybe you could answer what would be your pick of either a Leopard 53 pc, a Fountaine Pajot my6, or a Aquila 54. Would really help buyers of the segment know what you think since there are a lot of naysayers of particular power catamaran brands.

Boy I sure hate to give opinions on these because they’re all nice and they’re all friends. But if you want to PM me on my Facebook page I’ll let You know what I think. facebook.com/thecaptainsteve?mibextid=LQQJ4d
@@captstevetestsoops….. But great to find your new channel. I did wonder why the Boat Test I always admired and respected had taken such a turn to the shallow end of KZbin. Welcome back 👍🏻👍🏻

What is the bridge clearance/air draft?
@michiganengineer86215 ай бұрын
According to the Leopard specifications online, it's 18'5" plus the electronics. So you'd likely have to dismount the radar and nav light going through Chicago as well as fold the VHF antenna.

Hmmm, 238 miles + 10% reserve range is not that much, even for the Great Loop (there is one section where you need something like 250+). OK doable, but not much room for error. I'd be looking at fuel bags on deck or something.
@msolar4 ай бұрын
I believe to do the Great Loop you need a range of 450 miles (390Nm) so, to your point, this boat is pretty far off being about half of that.

The Yanmar V8s can be run one engine at a time at lower RPM on deliveries we do this on Ocean crossings, at 6.5-7K the consumption should be in the vicinity of 500nm with a reserve of 400Litres I get 2L per mile on crossings
@matthewholzmueller62925 ай бұрын
Please enlighten me if I am off base anyone. The fuel consumption doesn't seem that great? Sighed, way to busy to do any meaningful research myself😅

Ditto ...seemed rather crappy for a small 40' cat.
@kfeltenberger5 ай бұрын
I agree, especially given one leg of the Loop is going to need the extra 10% reserve.
@michiganengineer86215 ай бұрын
@@kfeltenberger Right around the 7-8 knot speed the range takes a serious dogleg up to around 500nm looking at the spec sheet.
@Frog1379924 күн бұрын
You can run one motor at a time in the 2L a NM range

Hey... Captain... We all are glad you have your own channel... Those.... Kids who took over. boat test...., well how would a sailor say... They suck at it.. your details, showing what real buys, want to know and see is not easy to copy... The decades on the water, before, the kid captain, and female bobble head....come off like, slick car sales men.....hideing things... Even there interviews, look like a 60 min, fluff piece. ... So captain Steve , always, your videos,..... Show case, but also point out, key changes, that could make the boat better... It the key details, you show.....and your trusty tape.... I'm not sure, if BOAT TEST, NEW WOKE, kids, can read a tape or know what one is..( they to use a app, point there cell, and ask, Alexa...how big is that..😅😂😅😂 ).... I hope, boat builders read my post.... Old school, says.... Let a fool, show your boat...... Sales sink...
