great to see and as always variety feeding is so important. Locusts have a larger gut than smaller livefoods, so the transfer of live gut culture and Gutload is increased. In order to pass this on in a highly bioavailable way we now suggest that they are prefed and hydrated and heated for at least an hour to 32 degree. This then allows the transfer of the gut cultures. A species well worth including within variety feeding and especially good around the breeding months for both species. They are also a larger animal, less are required to fill the animal than smaller livefoods. For me, my go to foods are these locusts, brown house crickets, calciworms and soldier flies. Then morios and waxworms in smaller amounts during the month. I limit roach feeding due to the high level of P, but again, they are fine when measured within variety feeding. Good use of ReVitaliseD3, a nice light dusting.

Oh I just saw your comment and I had actually asked this in a seperate comment, but is there a specific formula to leopard gecko supplementation, ie x mcg of calcium per g of bodyweight or something of the sort? I hate guessing, of course the gutloaded amount is a variable in this but it would tremendously help to have a baseline to work with! I would really appreciate a reply back Also, I have been desperately trying to get my hands on the shade dweller and dhp (in the US) but every company that carries it is out of stock. I have emailed them all (yep I did that) asking if they had a rough approximate date on when it may be back in stock but the ones I've heard back from have not thus far had an answer. Do you have any insight as to when more shipments will be going to the US? And could you possibly give me some more retailer names that carry your products because all I'm looking at right now is reptilesupply, Josh's frogs, bio dude and pangea. Thanks!

How do you best gut load your insects please? I feed a single Leopard Gecko which we have owned for 3 months now and I keep a variety of foods for him inc locusts, dubia, morio and meal worms. I have been making sure they have food in the tubs I am keeping them in on a daily basis but the Retile Network article file I have just read recommends to split the food you intend to feed your reptile 12 hours before and then gut load and hydrate to the maximum. I am using the Arcadia insect fuel, bug gel for hydration plus a variety of veg which is all topped up and they are kept under the Viv. Is my method obtaining sufficient nutritional value to the insects or should I be feeding less often to make sure they are fully loaded before feeding to my Gecko. Many thanks.
@pewpewcat76794 жыл бұрын
@@speedymadr6 i keep reading you are supposed to gutload 24 hrs before feeding Not at all saying I'm 100% sure that's correct, that's just what I keep reading but I'm going to keep looking around if I see any other info out there. But I will primarily be dusting and offering the supplement in a dish so gutloading is secondary to me. Would be nice to get some input. I had my question too but I guess they didn't get the notification about a reply 🙁

They all used reptile carpet, non sand in sight, I didn’t even see sand to be bought. All of the tanks were a good size for a temporary tank. They all seemed to be happy and active. I like feeding locusts mainly because I think my lizards maybe get kinda bored of always eating the same stuff every day. I also once heard they are a bit more nutritious than crickets so I like to use them as a healthy treat instead of always switching to wax/meal/superworms. Another big bonus is that there is no way locusts will breed year round in your house and become a constant pest, except if you live in a warm climate. And lastly I feel like hunting them is a bit more challenging for the lizard than a regular cricket and thus provides more enrichment.

this is great to see somebody having a large enough enclosure for their gecko, you’re very enthusiastic about reptiles. I’m new to explore your channel and I see you have great experience. Aswell, I did see that Ziggy had passed, I very dearly am sorry. If you’re struggling, I read up that think your gecko climbing logs etc to get to a rainbow bridge. Where you’ll be waiting for them when you die. Anyways back to the reptile stuff; I use locusts for my 2 almost 1 year-old geckos. They enjoy them so much. I will absolutely agree with you, they are a nightmare with getting them out. I use tweezers, especially made for feeding reptiles and then either jump and their leg falls off. it also depends on what size your locusts are, I’m currently feeding mine medium. 3-8 weeks: 3-4 9-12 weeks: 5 maximum # medium 1y.o: (how much they can eat in an hour) #medium / large locusts 3y.o + : 4 #large / extra large locusts It also depends on the geckos personality if they are a massive foodie I would recommend these x

I feed my leopard gecko only locusts because she likes them, She is 2 and a half and the only reason I don't use crickets is because they are loud and look weird, I give her 7 or 8 locusts at a time and mealworms at night but I feed her 2 or 3 times a week :)

Locusts are not common feeders here in the states, but I was able to get some at a reptile show right before we locked down for quarantine. Then I couldn't bring myself to feed them to my lizards either, because of their faces. (I have plenty of other feeder bugs at all times, so the geckos didn't go hungry.) I tried to breed the locusts, thinking if I had enough of them I wouldn't feel guilty for feeding them off, but they didn't breed for me and died after a few months. Ah well.

Yeah there's quite an old video I did on this, but the info is still pretty relevant. Make sure the food is the correct size, not too big. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYnJapKCgMyUi7s

That's cool! I'll be getting one soon as well, but I'm still building my bioactive tank and I'm desperately trying to get a hold of some arcadia lights (I'll get the deep heat projector later) but everything is sold out everywhere. Its really annoying. My succulents need light too even if I don't have a gecko yet 😕

Locust lift their hind legs because that's their passive resting state. I have leopards geckos also lemon(female) and lime(male) kids named them. Lemon just laid total 10 eggs one hatched named it Nemo.

Mine have been off all feeders but locusts for years! My female will only eat the XL ones for some reason so i have to remove the back legs and crush the heads for her , its grim but she LOVES them. I only give her one every other day/2 days since they're pretty big
