Thank you Robert. I actually shop your sponsors now so it's getting them real results. You are a natural for this career brother. Truly appreciate the hard work so I can live it from my couch. Over.

+Scott Ehrlich thanks for the kind words Scott, I appreciate it! I turn down about a dozen sponsorship offers for every one I accept. If I don't already use and love the product or WHOLE HEARTEDLY believe it's the best in its genre, I pass, even when money is offered (I'd be living much more comfortably if I just blindly accepted them all). I say all that to say that if I work with a company, it's because I stand behind the product. If you're ever unhappy with one of those purchases, you let me know and I'll help take care of ya.

I'm from so cal, went out first time on kayak in ocean this past weekend. Out of Newport.I freaked out a little about great whites. I know it's rare but there have been a lot of sightings here. I'm working on getting over it. Ur videos are awesome. I want to do La Jolla soon. It's my favorite beach. Thanks for the videos!

The sealions have now been fully protected since the 70s. They have their place, but there are now far too many. As a result, they have hurt unshore fishing along CAs coast. They eat 30-35lbs of fish every day. That equals several 'daily' Calico Bass limits, and they are much more successful. They have even been seen eating 7' Thresher Sharks. They also provide food & attraction for the increase of Great Whites. They should be brought under control. The balance has been affected!

My fishery! Hell yeah! You haven't put out as much fishing content as you used to, but it looks like that's about to change. Seriously, when you put out actual fishing content, it's some of the best. You have a way with editing and narration that makes the story compelling. And yeah, those calicos are strong fighters and hella fun to catch, much more so than lmb's. They're the reason I first switched from freshwater to salt, lol. Looking forward to the rest of the series, especially the La Jolla episode!

@YakFishField

So we were catching those calicos in about 40 feet, maybe 1/4 mile out of the harbor. The leopard shark came in about 12 feet right off the beach. They hang out in and right past the surf. In most of the episodes I talk about how deep we're fishing. And in episode 3 you'll get a glimpse of just how many leopard sharks hang out right off the beach!

@YakFishField

The short one? That's the alligator clamp mount from GoPro. Very versatile mount. There are lots of Chinese knock offs on Amazon but I wouldn't go that route, their clamps are unreliable and you're putting your GoPro at risk. The thing is $40 from GoPro which isn't cheap, but worth the peace of mind.

You could even have it to where you have them on your boat with a manual pump and pump them up put them on the retractable arms and extend them out for 5 feet and give you way more buoyancy when you’re in the open waters I think that would be a awesome feature on a kayak

Robert, you make really good, entertaining and quality kayak fishing/trip series! I'm looking forward to see more! And one request to you: you are exposed to more different environment and test more gear than many of us. Could you do a full gear review which you had during this trip, to tell what works and what not so much (if it doesn't violate your sponsorship agreement)? You do some, and advertise more, and it will be helpful to know your fair opinion and recommendations. Thanks!

Thanks dude I appreciate that! I'm self-taught so there's still plenty of room for improvement. This was a little while ago, I definitely couldn't have edited this along the way. You probably could make it out of some kind of light aluminum rods and actually have a pump that hooks up to a small battery or manually pump up the tubes that hook onto the aluminum rods on each side that go out for 5 foot just to give you stability when you’re on open waters I’m sure that could be integrated into the kayak really easy

Looks like that Leopard Shark swallowed the sardine and hook. Did you get the hook out? Can you leave hooks in since it’s salt-water and the hook just deteriorates allowing the fish to live?

Liking your black n red outfit that the Leopard was caught on . ( what model? ) Maybe you could run us through your preferred rods n reels and how you use them .

+Nick Serrano I was just looking for kelp and fishing those and the boiler rocks that stick up out of the water. Let it sink to the bottom and varied my retrieve. Once I got a few bites, I replicated those retrieves and conditions.

Awesome video as always. Congrats on the new species. I picked up my 1st fishing kayak 2 weeks ago, you were one of the inspirations for it. Any quick tips for beginners? When are you coming to Australia to fish? Haha
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 7 жыл бұрын
+Polly P my best tip is to find some people to go out with, that's the fastest way to learn. I'm sure there's a kayak fishing forum and some Facebook groups for Australia. In my experience most in our sport are happy to have meet ups or invite others to tag along. And I'm hoping to get out to both Aus and NZ next year! Where should I go in Aus?

You could have Flatow bowl buoys to put on the retractable arms on the side of the kayak where you could manually pump them up and then put your arms out on each side and give you a lot more buoyancy when you’re an open roof or water

The red rod why are the guides to the side or it just me great video looking forward to seeing what next
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 7 жыл бұрын
The guides wrap all the way around it. It's called acid wrap or spiral wrap. I'll never go back to regular guides on conventional rods. Here's a decent article explaining the benefits. I don't know this company or their rods, so this is not an endorsement of them, but the article explains the concept decently: www.customanglerods.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=58

@YakFishField

+PinaMcVfamily that's a custom rod built by a guy named Mark Crouse. I'm really not sure of the specs. The eyes wrapping around is called acid wrap or spiral wrap.

Cool Thanks!! I'll do some research on it. Looks like it is a lot easier on the rod and you when bringing the fish in, especially how close to the water you are sitting.

Robert just a thought why not have retractable floating buoys of some sort that could swing out on each side when in open water to give more stability on each side I’m sure that could be engineered easily for rougher water or an adapter with arm on each side that would be cool if only 4-5 feet for stability I’m sure someone has thought of that or maybe already available if not draw it up and try integrate just a thought as I watch y’all fish hopefully I said it right
