I don't currently have one, but I have kept them previously. It may seem unpleasant but you really should give them snails with shells on too. They have a much higher calcium requirement than you would expect, and they have an insanely powerful bite that should be developed by giving them snails in their shells. Plus they digest small bits of shell which tops up their calcium requirements. Mine in the past have also eaten dendrobaena. Most pet shops will be happy to order in live snails and typically have a supply of dendrobaena in the fridge. The prepared animal food - it really depends. If you have an easy supply of grain-free, high quality cat food, this is a great food to have in rotation - just don't make it a primary. Cat food typically has a 60/40 split between protein and plant matter, which is thought to be the split pink tongues eat in the wild. Of the 2-3 feeds a week an adult has, 1-2 feeds of live snails and then a weekly alternating diet of prepared cat food/dendrobaena is a good mix So glad to see he's coming along so well though!

I used to own snails as pets. 100% if you want to get them to lay eggs you need them to be a) fully grown (If the one in the videos are yours, you’ll need a few more months to a year to start seeing eggs) b) well fed. Protein is a must, wether that’s pumpkin seeds, rehydrated mealworms or any veg/meat with good protein. Once a week if it’s a high protein source, twice if it’s low protein Avoid cucumber and lettuce, no nutrients, maybe as treats but not main food. I personally had a lot of success with kale, any potatoes (sweet, red, brown etc) and surprisingly flowers. If you don’t see them eating the cuttle sprinkle reptile calcium powder, chicken grit or ground eggshell. I used to throw in chicken bones and they’d be cleaned off and half eaten in the morning They’ll lay more during summer months. I had the most laying when I had good dark spots in my tank too good luck on your snail breeding journey!

Funny, my pink tongue skink is the most cheap reptile to feed because i catch snails outside for free! I freeze the snails for some weeks before feeding to kill the parasites. I have him since 2018 and he only eats frozen/thawd snails that i catch outside.

i’m laughing at the thought of you having this cute tiny lizard that isn’t growing, to all of a sudden having a beast. it’s like when people accidentally think bears are puppies LOL

Hi from Australia just a old guy from Australia only kept a pink tongue for a while, as only had an outdoor enclosure 6ft x 10ft x 6ft H they are like blue tongues for diet mainly snail etc and insects, suppliment with some greens ,egg yolks, some fruit and veg you have to find out which ones they like every lizard is different, calcium is important, never met a blue tongue family skink that didnt like banana.Variety of food is good. Had to rehome him as a couple of the other residents mainly a large Eastern Water dragon started to treat him as food. Cheers going to follow your adventures with Rex

I buy edible snails grown for the restaurant trade from a snail farm in the uk, I buy them in bulk and freeze what I don't use. If you like I can dig out the link for the farm.

I have a male pink tongue skink called chipper, feeding live snails isn't a bad idea however they need a diverse meal schedule, they really aren't expensive too look after, mine eats chicken, minced beef, frozen thawed apple snails, egg, the occasional pinky mouse and you can feed grain free cat or dog food, don't offer omni gold or crested gecko, they will also eat crickets and dubi roaches and other insect feeders, so feed away, they have a very easy, cheap and diverse diet, as for handling I have never picked mine up, I put my hand in his enclosure for the first 6 months I had him fir about 15 minutes each time then once he got used to me he started climbing on me by himself, just open the enclosure and let him come to you which he does everytime, I keep his humidity at 65 to 75 percent and he lives in 3.5 ft long 2 ft hight 1.5 ft deep enclosure, don't keep in exo terra ones they recommend they aren't big enough they need alot of room, had mine nearly 3 years now and he is absolutely the gentlest best lizard I have ever had, never bit or hissed ever

I have a baby whites tree frog in a 12x12x18 and I wanna upgrade him to an 18x18x36 when he’s an adult so I was wondering if Viperia ships to the US. I emailed them and they haven’t gotten back to me in over 3 weeks and I couldn’t find anything on their website so i wondering if you knew. I want to use PVC over glass but no other brands have what I want outside of viperia. Do you know if they ship to the US? PS I love you channel ❤

I haven't owned one but from what I've seen here in Australia Pink-tongues are quite cheap, at around $150-$200 AUD (which is roughly the same as CAD) Of course the issue is because they're native many of them may be caught from the wild which isn't ideal at all At least overseas they are nearly all captive bred I'm quite surprise at just how expensive the snails are though... wow! Good luck to Gex with his health and growth :)

Oh man, I was pretty interested in keeping one of these guys, but I'm pretty tired already of the few reptiles I've had being really weird about food. Need to get myself something that has the stomach and taste buds of a trash compactor.

Could you feed him food grade escargots, you know the ones that the French eat in garlic butter?

They don't like human/food-grade snails because they're pre-cooked. She used to feed them to him but he didn't start growing until she switched to live/raw snails

They might recognize a specific tone but they're not recognizing or coming to their name. You could say shitbox in the same tone and the animal would come. Since you have these animals that know their name you have a great opportunity to prove it! Like no one in history has. There are reasons (because they don't and never will know their name).
