Thanks. :) I play (on alto) Bach 6 1/2 AL but this is an very old model, and the new 6 1/2 is different. I advise the Josef Klier (maybe 9C) for alto. It's depends from the instrument and Your style also. Most of the professionals play a same mouthpiece like in tenor, but with different rim. All the bests for Your senior recital. ;-)

Thanks for the input EB. We're both correct but I believe sackbutt is more commonly used. Regardless, it's a nifty little tool.

Anyone know if alto is written in Bass or Treble clef? I'm thinking the alto is a great way to start my son on Reg Trombone ..

@julietrombone I was just thinking, what about writing special music that doesnt go below middle C#/Db. I'm assuming positions 6 and 7 are the ones they have trouble with ... then as they get older they can learn the lower notes.

@FourtissimoFan Okay, next question ... are the notes the same .... in other words 1st position Bb, 6th, C, etc ... so he could learn Bass Clef and just play it an octave higher?
