Thank you for a nice, respectful report. Thus band brought us joy with their upbeat, fabulous harmonies. I wish they could have toured America one more time.

Rest In Peace Les. I will always ‘Remember’ the carefree days you and the band gave through my teenage years. In 1976 you were the first band I’d ever seen in Concert. The Southampton Odeon rocked that night and to top it all it was a ‘Saturday Night’😂 The British heatwave of 1976 was an added ‘Summerlove Sensation’ 😂 with the bands bunch of hits bringing us days upon days of carefree joy. I can still see the beautiful face of my girlfriend Dianne who along with me learnt how to ‘Give A Little Love’ 😂 even though it was not long before she, not me said ‘Bye Bye Baby’🙁 I guess this is my ‘Rock And Roll Love Letter’ to you and the band. Les, you can ‘Keep on Dancing’ up there. ‘Don’t Let The Music Die’.

@karen Smith ...I’m so sorry that your parents refused to let you go to the 1976 concert. My parents had always refused to allow me to listen to The Beatles. However, by 1976 I was 16 years old and therefore allowed to travel away alone 😀 Therefore a flight from Jersey to Southampton and going to see the Bay City Rollers perform was on the cards. Nobody could stop me 😂 It was my first trip away from home and an amazing experience. I will always remember how I loved seeing all you girls crying, screaming snd dropping to the floor around me...it was if I was in the band 😂 Other memories I have of that night was the show having to be stopped after only the first song until all the girls could be removed from the stage and calmed down. The funnest memory I have is of a large group of Southampton football team supports congregating over the road from the theatre and taunting the Rollers fans by chanting ‘We Want The Osmond’s’. 😂

@karen Smith ...thank you so much for replying and sharing your memories. I’m happy that my story gave you some laughs. It would be nice to know what the BCRs were like when you did first eventually see them perform in Australia. Which members of the band were in the group at that stage? From the KZbin footage I’ve seen of the BCRs most recent tours I think I can understand you finding the Manchester concert not so good. Les seemed to have lost his early years singing voice and the sound engineers seemed to be very poor or basic. At the time I flew to see them in Southampton in 1976 we in Jersey had been starved of live concerts. Unfortunately, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones amongst a few other groups and artists of the 1960s had failed to make profits from staging shows in Jersey. That problem was due to the Islands population being very small thereby only generating a low number of ticket sales. Therefore, the Island became a no go location for pop groups. However, only a few years after 1976 a new concert venue was opened and a local person decided to invest in trying to promote pop concerts in the Island. I therefore also got to see Showaddywaddy although I was not really into their songs as much as those of the BCRs. A group of my friends decided it would be a fun night out so I tagged along 😀 Some time later I also went to see a group called Darts followed by Meatloaf and then in the mid to late 80s Paul Young. I never got to see David Essex but remember him very well. I was still at school in 1974 when he released ‘Gonna Make You A Star’ which I loved and is still today my favourite song of his. If my memory serves me correct I think he also acted in the Movie ‘That’ll Be The Day’, with Ringo Star? In fact that was the very first AA film I had ever seen and was underage to go without a parent. My best friend and I actually sneaked into the Cinema to see that movie 😂 We managed to get through the fire doors at the side of the Jersey Odeon which people would not close properly after exiting from the previous performance 😂 I also recall seeing David Essex in 2 other movies, ‘Stardust’ and ‘Silver Dream Racer’, the latter of which I recall liking the song he’d recorded for the main title track. I do think he managed to continue a very successful future in film and music as I recall he acted and sung in Madonna’s movie Evita as well as a number of years early sung on Jeff Wayne’s ‘War of The Worlds’ album. I’ve always felt it sad and unfortunate that the BCRs could not get along with each other so they’d maintain a much longer period of success. I did not like the situation of Les having one BCR line up, Woody having a line up and even at one time Ian having one to tour the USA. It would have been great if Les and Woody would have been able to put aside their silly differences and try pursued Derek out of retirement then in the latter years have the closest original line up of Les, Woody, Eric, Pat (replaced Ian who replaced Alan) and Derek. I’m certain that line up would have been a very successful latter years BCRs. Anyway Karen, I’ve gone on a bit so will wish you a very nice Sunday. Please take care and stay safe.
