@McLeod2022 Жыл бұрын
I watch movie musicals knowing I'm not going to get the theatrical experience... the darkness.. the sound waves hitting you.. the tenseness on love performance... but the actors did their part, were cast in their roles, and did well enough (though Crowe pushes me to the edge of ehh...)... to your point... Absolutely. Serious theatrical musical talent just punches through on the screen. Hugh comes from theater but his voice typically doesn't overwhelm me... he did well enough here... me growing up with Colm at the helm. If you watch the actual 85th Academy performance you can tell Samantha WAS Eponine on the stage and Aaron's entrance is so subtly dramatic and powerful... I love hearing vocal from actors who might surprise ja... but there is nothing like a theatrical voice that carries weight even in the quietest whisper sung. Cheers.

@chelsm3 жыл бұрын
I remember hearing something like Russell Crowe wasn’t really a trained singer when he became part of Les Mis and it just warmed my heart to see him practicing with these others. Everyone else is kind of effortlessly doing their parts and then it gets to his and he is obviously focusing so hard, trying to stay on time (for what is admittedly a pretty tricky sounding part if you ask me! But I’m an amateur so take that with a grain of salt). I think I just find it so heartwarming because I know what it’s like to feel like I’m surrounded by people who are better trained at something than me, and it felt like a moment of identification - like he’s a real human too. ❤️ And I’ve been in musical theatre or choir rehearsals where there’s just that one person who is having a heckuva time with their part - sometimes me, sometimes someone else. I see you Russell!!

@Truffleshuffle182 жыл бұрын
Normally I’d agree but my love for this musical and its beautiful legacy is far greater than my desire to root for Russell Crowe’s underdog story. I’m still upset that he took this role from so many incredibly talented actors who could have brought this character and voice to life far better than him, etching their own moving vocal rendition into movie musical canon. But it’s too late. This was it. Don’t get me wrong, his dramatic acting was on point but when he opens his mouth to sing his voice is thick and untrained. Now there is no other chance for another cinematic version of this story. No future performance or cast. That version of “Stars” will be the only version to live in movie history and it breaks my heart.
@benjjjjsin Жыл бұрын
Nah, Russel Crowe has been in multiple professional musical theater productions in Australia before he hit it big in Hollywood. He was singing in those, so he definitely has experience and training. He also sung in a rock band. Amanda is the only with no professional musical theater (or even high school theater) experience and it shows. She only did 2 years of private classical training as a teen.

@shiinichie40133 жыл бұрын
@@coffeeandhorses7991 From what I know, Samantha is a Broadway singer. That's different from an opera singer 😅 All of them (with the exception of Crowe) have been trained. Seyfried was a trained classical singer since teen but quit because she wanted to focus on acting so she's rusty. Helena has also train and had been on several musicals. Anne has great vocal techniques and trained with vocal coaches altho not as often. Hugh is also classically trained and have been on Broadway. Eddie came from a stage school where he took up acting and singing, making him the least experienced singer. Lastly, Aaron used to be a classically trained singer before he was an actor. Edit: Not hating on you btw, I'm just explaining. Crowe shouldn't be hated on for his singing because he was not trained in classical/broadway/opera. Hugh Jackman, while he was more into acting here than singing it, but if you look into his other musicals, he is in fact, great there. 😊

Surprised there are so few compliments for Anne Hathaway - she sings beautifully and so naturally. She was superb in the film too.

But what if, Anne Hathaway plays Max Caulfield in Life is Strange and she sings: I dreamed a dream in times gone by When hope was high and life worth living Now I have to choose to let Chloe die To save Arcadia Bay, bye Then the masterpiece becomes even better than Les Miserables

ReneeC43 That’s Aaron Tveit. He’s done a lot on Broadway and will be returning soon for Moulin Rouge which is currently testing in Boston. He’s absolutely stunning. He is a nice guy and I love seeing him perform.

How do you know
@Spunkie5316 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen him on Broadway and was lucky enough to be involved in a question and answer session after the performance. He was very nice and didn’t just give a one sentence answers. He put thought into them. He actually had the best answer that I’ve heard to my question. I said that some people get nervous auditioning and some performing, how do you get past that? He said you can go in for an audition and do the best you’ve ever done and just not be what they’re looking for. So, the only thing you can do is go in, do your best and enjoy it.
