My favourite part in the whole movie. After so many years,I still remember how shock I was when the first time I saw the BIshop was bringing the silver to Valjean. It is incredible, full of smartness and grace. When the Bishop talked to Valjean,I can literally feel Valjean‘s shame and out of expectations. If I were him,I can’t be enough courage to see the Bishop‘s eyes. At this time,god’s grace comes from the Bishop. Tears still gather in my eyes even now.

Grace vs Law = les mis
@milkdropmusicchannel80983 жыл бұрын
This whole play is Grace vs Law. It's so good. so so so so so good. Main antagonist is the law. He won't bend, he even tries to turn himself in at a percieved transgression. He is destroyed in the end by Gods grace, it just makes him freak out he can't even handle it. He couldn't comprehend it's goodness and it just destroyed him. it's Grace vs law. And that's why I love this play so much, it is the Gospel story. It even goes as far as Val Jean struggling with another man's sacrifice for him, who hasn't felt guilty about our paschal lamb? Who am i that he would sacrifice for me? Who would want to crucify Him again.... this thing is a masterpiece

Best ValJean saving another ValJean. They mention in the book ValJean keeps in contact with the Bishop over the years, so he gets to see how much ValJean changed to the point of becoming a major. ValJean getting caught actually devastates the town an region due to how much he did for the entire area. It shows how much of an effect the Bishop truly had upon the world. That forgives can change the world, all it takes is one man to show compassion to an angry and lost soul.

@Victor-er2li Strange obsession with close-ups, questionable casting, and a disastrous method of recording the music. Script-wise I like what they did with Javert, and casting the original Valjean actor as the bishop was brilliant (as was having him welcome Valjean to heaven) but on the whole the movie is a train wreck with a few nice touches.

@andrewbloom76942 жыл бұрын
@@brxzbze He wasn't though: Bishop: A2-E4 Valjean: A2-A#5 If anything he should have had an easier time with that as he aged. I'm virtually certain the issue was just that the acoustics on set weren't nearly as good as a theatre, and he isn't used to doing lots of takes over and over. It's why I genuinely think Barks has an argument to be the best singer in the film. She somehow sounded exactly as good in the freezing rain outside as she did on stage at the 25 Anniversary concert! Edit: yeah I double checked my old copy of the part, he has that one A2, and 3 short B2s, but that's it. Valjean actually had the lower part for this scene. His part in this scene is C#3 to F#3 (and the scream when he's captured but there's no note assigned).
@brxzbze2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewbloom7694 Actually as male voices age they usually lose power in the lower ranges, so it is possible it's a little on the lower end of his range now and he might have had more trouble singing it. It probably is mostly the acoustics though. Anyhow, he still sounded better than Hugh Jackman did

This is grotesque. You cannot 'sing' a certain kind of dramatic moment - some emotions just do not translate to song. The version with Liam Neeson is truly great. Geoffrey Rush is a much more convincing and even sympathetic Javert than Crowe or anyone else. Rush was a great actor.
@theQuestion6266 жыл бұрын
Crowe I thought was phenomenal. He captured the same cold emotional aloofness but also the inner complexity of Javert

Yeah but this is a scripted part of the actual theatrical/musical. It's actually amazingly poetic because usually Colm Wilkinson (the preist), usually plays Jean Val-jean. It's like he's being nice to himself in another life.
