Maintaining class and manners is always the right way. That would be kind of like me going up to Melky Cabrera, “hey! I’ve been showing up and supporting you since you’ve played with the Staten Island Yankees! And when you hit a home run against the Brooklyn Cyclones I’ve told everyone you’ve got to see this guy play! And now, you’re too good to say hello back?! You think you’re better than me?!” He’d probably look back and ask “were you the guy that threw me pitches behind an L screen every day? Did you tell Brian Cushman to not skim over my name as he was reading the box score? Being a fan is a transactional experience, you pay for a ticket and I use my skill and talent to help win the game. That’s it, I don’t owe you anything. If can come back another time civilized, I may be nice.”

That kind of jerk, if it was some McDonald's or another service place or hospitality, would say, "can I talk to your manager?!" , and all those "the customer is always right" (no, he's not - too much time he's not), or the eternal one: "I pay your salary". Those individuals give only to receive, nothing else.
