So many people have memorized & LOVE the show....simply from the 10th Anniversary concert alone, I bet that we'll start seeing folks leap to the front of the theaters ( in full costume...) and sing along.....like what happened with Rocky Horror.

Personally, having heard much of Hugh Jackman's musical work, I think he will make a superb Jean Valjean. I cannot wait to hear the whole cast. Eddie Redmayne has just a stunning voice, and I really think he will do Marius justice. I can't wait.

Well, they did cast Samantha Barks as Eponine. And Hugh Jackman's been on Broadway. And Eddie Redmayne (Marius) sang in the Eton choir. Not broadway, obviously, but it just shows that he's classically trained and fucking good.

@Musicalsongs7 Thanks a lot I intend to get that. I hope the movie captures the magic of the show too.

Jayecab: I was simply stating my opinion which, if I'm not mistaken is very much allowed on this site so you can do us all a favor and stop biting everyone's heads off for thinking differently than you. However, having it been a long time since writing my first comment, I do understand what you mean. They need a bigger audience to make money! I was close-minded and ignorant of the problems of hollywood. However impolite, I appreciate the explanation.

i think the reason they didnt use original cast members is because then people would know about the movie, as seen in RENT, the mmistake (a perfect mistake) was they cast to many unknown actors and then cut too much of the important parts of the musical. the good musical movies are the ones who are faithful yet make them thier own, like chicago or sound of music. that being said, hugh jackman, samantha barks, eddie redmayne and aaron tveit are amazing actors and singers and will save this movie

@HappyThoughts I've got some other from a classic book of Les Miserables (comic book style)

Hugh Jackman hasn't just been on Broadway - he won the Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Musical in 2004 for "The Boy from Oz". And Anne Hathaway is a stage actress as well as film. Like it or not, stage and film are two different media, and making a film version of a musical is a lot more work than just recording a performance or the musical. You need film actors.

are you sure it's Drew Sarich. It sounds a lot like John Owen Jones to me. I think this might be the 25th anniversary UK tour cast

I don't know why people are having a go at who has been cast in the film when the film has not even finished filming yet, i agree they could of used JoJ or AB or other actresses for Fantine and Cosette but for all we know those cast could be pretty good, from what I know of HJ he might be good as Valjean, just like the others you mentioned, I am holding onto my hope that Amanda/Anne and Russell will be good also atleast till I have watched the film anyway :)

funny how ppl compare musical theater to musical movie. if Moulin Rouge was a musical before it became a movie bet ppl never would believe Nicole Kidman could take on the role.

It might have been slightly more effective, however, had you left off telling me as I recall to: "Shut the f*** up". But I appreciate the explanation none the less. I do see where you are coming from. Having now seen "Rock of Ages" using a celebrity cast I have changed my view. Having said this, perhaps you can get off your thrown and stop calling people stupid just because they've expressed an opinion that you, personally, do not agree with.

I'm all for people making Les Miserables into a movie but why do they have to go all hollywood on it? I understand that Hugh Jackman had a history in theatre but why can't they just use John owen Jones or Alfie Boe. Personally, I think its an insult to the musical to cast Amanda Seyfried as Cosette or Anne Hathaway as Fantine. Why can't we say what we know is true. The only reason these people got the part is because they are recognizable and will get a bigger following. Hollywood will ruin this

OMG! What a 'prestige movie!!! Academy members will dare NOT vote best picture for this. It's a lock (yawn) and the Oscar show will be a predictable bore. Why bother announcing other nominees? (I like Le Miz, but I hate it when one movie dominates.) Oh, look! It's got Hugh Jackman in it!
