Les Pêcheurs de perles by Bizet performed by Placido Domingo and Emilio Rolando Villazón Mauleón

Les pêcheurs de perles (The Pearl Fishers) is an opera in three acts by the French composer Georges Bizet, to a libretto by Eugène Cormon and Michel Carré. It was first performed on 30 September 1863 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris, and was given 18 performances in its initial run. Set in ancient times on the island of Ceylon, the opera is a story of how two men's vow of eternal friendship is threatened by their love for the same woman, whose own dilemma is the conflict between secular love and her sacred oath as a priestess. The friendship duet "Au fond du temple saint", generally known as "The Pearl Fishers Duet", is one of the best-known numbers in Western opera.

Thank you for this, two really beautiful voices united. I like this interpretation very much, for Villazón is clearly the younger part, much more emotional than the wise Domingo. This is a beautiful choiced duet, exquisit.

Domingo as baritone....years ago, Domingo, tenor with Milnes, baritone. My first opera duet I did hear given to me to learn if I would like the opera. HOW could one not hearing these two, Domingo & Milnes. Thank you, Maestro.

Placido Domingo a changé de registre en vieillissant ; de ténor, il est passé ténor barytonant puis il a chanté des airs de baryton (comme Rigoletto)
