Marty, that's a nice LP with some great tone. A truly classic instrument that's been played by virtually every guitarist that I can recall. And yes, I still have the Guitar Player issue with Duane Allman on the cover playing a '59 that looks much like yours, cool.

I have a 2011 traditional of the same color. I even changed the tuners to locking grovers just like those. It is very heavy as you mentioned and the neck is very thick as well but that's not a problem for me. I got it new so by now you can imagine all the plastic is yellowish. Its a good guitar but I've moved on to a PRS custom 24 since. It's lighter, it has a trem and surprisingly I dig the extra frets and easy access to them. The only things i miss are the wide neck and the sustain.

Gorgeous guitar Marty. The flame on the top is stunning A guitar strap suggestion I would make to you is the No.1 Stretch strap by Levy's I think (I have no affiliation, but do own two of their straps)...it takes away a bit of the weight of the guitar as it's like a rubber/neoprene type. My LP Trad faded is a bit heavy and find this takes away a lot of the strain. I've seen a video of buckethead using one. And no, your guitar won't bounce around on you.

The bypass switch is way more functional then Marty lets on - it performs the bridge pickup bypass NO MATTER WHAT the prior settings are. For example: you may have both pickups on, with the neck vol turned down (to clean up the dirt) and the bridge vol turned down just a hair more (to enhance the warmth) and the bridge tone pot at 3/4. Getting to full bridge lead output will take some fiddling (pickup-switch, raise vol, raise tone), and restoring back accurately will take even longer. This bypass lets you go back and forth instantly. While I don't see many folks utilizing this feature, it is rather powerful and available on the rare occasion when needed. However I'd be very surprised to see Joe Perry or Slash pulling up on a tone knob for a screaming solo. Marty should have also demonstrated the neck tone pot switch that puts the pickups out of phase. It does not give the full cocked-wah "honk" sound such a switch normally gives, but it comes halfway and cuts the bass significantly. The humbucker coil taps, in my opinion, produce a surprisingly lousy treble-cut sound. It should sound more jangley! Perhaps the wonderful sounding BurstBucker-Pro pickups just don't lend themselves to a proper coil tap or out of phase sound. I guess at 8.6 lbs it is weight-relieved, but still much heaver than my 6.8 lb 1976 Gibson SG.

@dudemynameiscat6 жыл бұрын
MultiGamingARMY1 to be honest it all depends what level you are at. I wouldn’t say there’s a huge difference between quality but there’s definitely a difference in components.
@msaintpc6 жыл бұрын
One's garbage (the Eppie, especially post 1975), the other (Gibby Les Paul) is a work of art. That's the difference and also the reason for the vast differences in price, quality and resaleability.

James, this may sound odd and get flack from purists, but Monoprice sells a Les knock-off (Route 66) that sounds pretty darn nice and plays great for $139. I've never seen a guitar as good for as cheap. I have both Monoprice and Gibson and I play the Monoprice every morning--have it in my office--and I never wish for more at those times. Granted, the Gibson has a lot better sustain as well other things, but for the money, The Route 66 model is a steal. There are many, many videos of people playing/reviewing them so check it out. If nothing else, owning it may give you incentive to save for the other. (Or you may just be quite contented with it.) It's not about price and name--it's about playing and enjoying. Rock On!
@Michaelfromfremont6 жыл бұрын
Epiphone Les Paul tribute is really close. REAL Gibson 57 humbuckers and REAL Gibson hardware too. I’ve got one in cherry burst and I’ve also got the pro top version as well and they’re both really close to the big brother Gibson’s, but the build quality and workmanship is evident on the Gibson’s, but the Epiphones are no slouches! You may just have to search around for the one that fits YOU 😎 Good luck in your hunt!!!
