Caitlyn doesn't have a job anymore. She is doing this because she is genuinely trying to solve the violence in the city. One thing I love about Caitlyn is she adjusts her world view and approach as she is given new information. She is willing to listen and willing to learn.

Caitlyn is pure as the driven snow, which is rare in this world, but as such she is also a bit naive. She does listen but that doesn't mean she always gets it, and she has to learn some lessons the hard way. If she didn't have that flaw she'd not only be a pretty boring character but out of place in a story driven by character flaws. She's a great contrast to the traumatized, impulsive, and cynical Vi. (Not to mention the whole star-crossed lovers thing given the class differences.)

@@steffanhymer1285 even 8 years ago in the Get Jinxed music video, you can see all the parallels between the music video and arcane such as the final missile, monkey bomb, etc. So it is all connected. Blue cloud tattoos mean Vi's flare both for arcane and league jinx. They have been working on arcane for 6 years, I'm pretty sure the flare scene is intentional to explain her tattoos. Same as Vi's gear tattoos, they stand for Powder's inventions.

I thought that it was because the explosion that killed her friends, because of the blue smoke, like a horrible memorial for the guilt she feels, and I have the theory that in season 2 she will have the pink bullets tattoos too, for what happened at the end of the season, because the color of her machine gun and bullets are pink. @@Pinemixer I dont think that was the intent though, check out the start of the scene again, Caitlyn puts Vi on her back after giving her the shimmer dose and she doesn't immediatly goes on her face, she keeps her distance while looking at her, she only closes the distance between them (keep in mind that Vi's eyes are even closed when she does this) and goes really close once Vi starts showing signs of being in pain.I believe Caitlyn was trying to calm her down and relieve her in a really painfull moment, this is makes even more sense when you see her brushing off her cheek and Vi's mimicking her breath (breathing trough her nose, exhaling trough her mouth), she keeps looking at her eyes in order to check if the healing was completely done and the painful part was over. If Caitlyn just wanted to see what the side effects did she didn't even need to come close to her, if she just wanted to see if her eyes she had a lantern she could've keep her distance, didn't need to put her hands on Vi's face and even before Vi starts showing how painfull it was she would've closed the gap

What I love in the scene between Vi and Cait is WHY Cait backed down - she really wanted to kiss Vi, but doing it in that place and moment would be taking advantage from Vi's state. She didn't want to do it if she wasn't sure Vi wants it to, or is not just hurt and drugged. Cait is the GOAT. (that is my interpretation, but that's what I clearly see in this scene)

Here’s the thing about that exchange Caitlyn made. That wasn’t a piece of Enforcer kit, that was _Caitlyn’s_ rifle. It was the rifle she learned to shoot with, it was used to beat Grayson in that tournament when she was younger. It was probably custom made or modified to Caitlyn’s specs, and it was almost certainly her most prized possession in the world. It’s such an intrinsic part of Caitlyn’s identity that she’s posing with it in the family portrait. But , when needed, she gave it up with barely a second thought to get medicine for Vi Message to Vi; this is the third time the baby giraffe has saved your life; don’t let this one get away, she’s a keeper. EDIT: I posted this before Elijah got to that part, she’s probably the only reactor I’ve seen pick up on the significance of that exchange.

@ 44:00 Jinx wasn't having a "mental moment" The Claggor voice is warning her about the drop attack incomming... Claggor always looks out for her, and is supportive, Mylo is always tormenting her. Just like when they were alive. Claggor always liked Powder, Claggor was always exhasperated at Mylo when he belittled Powder and he always tried to help her... at the arcade he taunts Mylo that powder was going to beat him again. When Jinx tells the voices to shut up that she needs to think, Mylo was mocking her, and Claggor was saying the Firelights are comming, that is why she snapped sharp and said to you hear that?

I never picked up that it was Claggor giving her help. And what’s crazy is that Mylo’s voice seemed the loudest (loudest at mocking her, loudest at criticizing her, etc). So his shitty treatment of her was so impactful that it causes her some of her greatest distress. And although Claggor was never the loudest at his support, always a quiet strength for Powder, her failures haunt her the most and I think Mylo’s voice is a representation of what she believes and feels to be her greatest failure. Idk if this makes sense cause I’m typing this up at 2:30am 😅 But your comment really made me gain a lot more perspective into Jinx and that scene in particular.

Mylo haunts her as she will never be able to prove to him that she IS capable and worthy. Claggor haunts her as he was always quietly shielding her by distracting Mylo's aggression and protecting the group, and she truly misses his support.

When you say Caitlyn didn't succumb to her up bringing, remember she calls herself a misfit for it. In the same breath we can say Vi is a misfit aswell bc despite all she's been though she still has a good heart, she also didn't succumb to her upbringing. That's what makes them two sides of the same coin.

That Cait/Vi moment is gold. I especially love how the voice acting of Vi adds to the vulnerability in this situation. And Caitlyn loves it, too ^^.Vi's breath out after that first cry is accompanied by a very high and faint moan- the difference is appearent when she speaks after that in her usual low tone. Caitlyn is in general a very caring person (see her hugging Huck, the shimmer addict as a thank you). When Vi opens her eyes she is reminded of her mother- probably because it is so long ago anyone cared about her and helped her like this. Her mother is very similar to Caitlyn- blue hair and blue eyes -even the voice is kind of deeper like Caitlyn's. She is reminded of her. Before that Caitlyn reminded her of Vander- all these are good people in her life she cared deeply about and on top of that Caitlyn is saving her. This adds to her trust and as the episode's title says "When the walls come tumbling down" - Caitlyn easily breaks through Vi's walls and sees her good nature- they can not pretend in front of each other. They even work together in escaping Silco's gasp. Without words Vi realises Caitlyn's plan and goes into full impact of this loose pillar to bring the buiding finally to collaps ( she is still shimmer infused so I think she has more power than usual at that moment). Caitlyn seeks out real trusting relationships with loyalty (very rare in fake society of Piltover)- just like Vi. She didn't want to end the friendship with Jayce even though he fell short in ep 2- unlike her parents just abandonning him straight when he lost face once and crawling back when he got up again as the golden boy. Caitlyn's loyalty never wavered- she even told Jayce straight up what the problem for her parents was and that they even wanted her to cut ties with him. Vi is straight forward as well. I love that the most >gay< characters in Arcane are the most >straight< forward ones XD They complement each other- Vi is impulsive and a brawler for close fighting and Caitlyn is a calm thinker for the bigger picture and a long range shooter with tracking skills. The perfect tag team. They come from different backgrounds but hold onto the same ideals (trust, truth, loyalty and family/friends). I believe that Caitlyn probably never had a proper friend besides Jayce who is like a brother to her because she feels that people usually approach her to get advantages out of her name and status/money or instead reject her (see ep 4 the other enforcers mocking her at the graveyard shift at the fair). She is also bad at pretending (see brothel scene ep5 with Pim) - something a Pilti should be able to do and that isolated her in Piltover- her carrer choice even more. Caitlyn doesn't value money or materalistic things. You can see that in ep4 especially well in her room. Her room is vast with almost no furniture - just the basic needs and the things for her work/case study (Piltover map etc.). That's also why she easily gives up her precious gun (the gun from the oil painting in the mansion!) in order to save Vi's life- because that has more priority to her than any object could have. She values her work where she feels that she can be herself and make a difference and contribute (without her title) to justice and show what she is capable of as a person. She genuinely wants to help the people because she can afford to look at the big picture unlike Vi. Caitlyn was raised in a safe environment - no fear of loosing someone close to her. That's why she can afford to hold onto greater motives (but at the same time she is aware that she is pretty much sheltered - ep4 "She did everything to keep me from seeing the real world" - and yet still open to new ideas and opinions and makes an effort to understand others!). But in the end she just wants to prove herself through her work and good deeds. Vi was raised in the Undercity with almost no childhood at all because she had to protect her little sister, replace their mum for Powder and be a leader to their little group- fighting everyday for their place in this cruel world. Even though she had Vander it was still an everyday fight for her and she never completely relied on him (ep2 heading of to turn herself in to even protect Vander, her family [and the Undercity; but more important for her was to not give any more trouble to Vander]). Therefore, she learned to protect her little world- the people close to her and her family. She didn't have the luxury to look at the big picture unlike Caitlyn who never had any lack of basic needs or fear to loose someone. These two worlds collide now and broadening each others horizons.

The hug is one of my favorite Cait moments and it’s what sealed in my love of her character. She has such a big heart and just wants to help everyone. It’s such a sweet moment. It’s why her and Vi tie for my fav character. Gotta give props to Jinx’s VA. She goes from sweet and broken to deranged and angry very well. Just to fill you in, the scientist’s name is Singed. I don’t believe it’s ever said in the show but it’s in the credits. While Heimerdinger is kind of the only non-corrupt council member and can technically be considered a good person… he really was not a good leader. He’s allowed the Undercity to become what it is. He’s ignored them almost entirely and he really has lost touch with how short a human lifespan is. Viktor especially doesn’t have a decade to “perfect the research.” It’s not just because she’s sleeping with Jayce that Mel agrees. She’s also helped shape him into this, built him up as an investment. So, even though even she’s uncertain about getting rid of Professor H, she also can’t really disagree with Jayce for her own politics. We saw back in episode three after Deckard went back to being normal (after being purple hulk) he looked pretty messed up. He didn’t have any growths but he looked like he’d been doing drugs for longer than just the actual day it had been. He’d already become addicted to Shimmer too. So I expect that Huck (glasses man) got that way from repeated and long time use of the stuff in large uncontrolled amounts.

Honestly Jayce did the right thing. Heimerdinger is one of my top favorite characters and it was sad for me to watch him get sacked by the other counselors, but looking back on him, he wasn't really fit to be a leader. As a being who lives for centuries, he disregards how much shorter human life spans are. Jayce asked him what his plan to take care of things was and Heimerdinger's response was "I see what this is about." Did . . . Did he even have a plan?!?! All he ever does give speeches, eulogies ans monologs, talk talk talk, societies are crumbling and countless people suffer while he chatters. Jayce made the right call removing him and the counselors were smart to concur. Heimerdinger isn't a bad person, just a pretty incompetent leader. He constantly justifies is lack of action with the excuse, "I saw what Arcane did in the past and it would be catastrophic to take any chances of it occurring again", okay, tell people what happened and why it's an issue.

Heimerdinger wasn't fit to be the defacto leader of the council, but his knowledge, ideals and intelligence gave him a unique point of view on many matters that made his opinion almost crucial to rule the city properly. The problem was the other members didn't really care about what he had to say because all they cared about was their interest and not like, the well being of the city. When he said that the Hexcore must be destroyed neither Jayce or Viktor asked for clarification. To be fair Viktor situation is kind of unique seeing as he is dying and desperate, but Jayce straight up forced him to retire without trying to understand where Heimerdinger was coming from.

When Vi and Jinx/Powder reunite at the end, and Jinx/Powder says, "Things changed when you were gone. I changed." Vi really doesn't understand. The last time Vi saw Powder she was a girl too small and scared to do any fighting herself, a girl who tried to help with tricks and traps that never worked. And that's the way Vi thinks of her sister. Later when the firelights show up, to see that she can not only handle herself in a confrontation, but that she seems to enjoy harming them, sort of shatters Vi's image of her sister. It's a real mask off moment as well. The calm and collected front he puts on is just that- a front. The core of his character is rage. Arguably justifiable rage given whats been done to him by Topside but even so. Rage is what fuels him and it's why all his actions, despite his alleged noble intentions, are so destructive to everything around him. He may preach about improving the lot of the citizens of undercity but here he just outright kicks a homeless shimmer addict to death because he was frustrated by the fact Vi has stayed outside his control. So much characterization given in a scene that's essentially completely void of dialogue. This show really is something else.

From what I understand is Shimmer is like a drug good and bad. In small doses it can help a body heal and preform better like ut does with Vi but in bigger doses the side effects go through the brain making it hard to control your action like a mindless muscular zombie...Then there's Jinx...

Studio Fortiche does such a good job in general with the characters' subtler body language and facial expressions in Arcane, and its been a real treat seeing you react to and break down all the romantic moments. Heimerdinger is the most fascinating Character study in this whole show for me. We want him to be the Mentor Archetype, the perfect wise old master that teaches the youngling how to fly, the ObiWan or Gandalf. But he isn't. Heimerdinger is very imperfect and that makes it so hard to know whats right when it comes to him. His misgivings of Hextech are very clearly founded and he isn't wrong - but neither is Jayce. When he confronts Heimerdinger, he asks him what his plan for fixing the situation is. And that might seem unfair at first, there is a whole council why should it be Heimerdingers responsibility alone... until you realize that Heimerdinger _predates the Council_ . He predates Piltover. This means that while everyone else on the copuncil was born into a divided City with huge Problems _Heimerdinger was there as they developed_ He _founded_ Piltover. And I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that it wasn't originally planned as a two class system that ripped the city apart in the middle. That to me feels like something that developed in the course of the Cities 200 years of History, which means, Heimerdinger maybe could have stoped it while it was developing. Sadly we don't have an exact backstory, but whatever happened, either Heimerdinger didn't notice until it was too late, which makes him ignorant and irresponsible; noticed and did nothing, which makes him neglectful or noticed it and tried something that didn't work and then gave up, which makes him inneficient and impotent. Anyway you slice it, he doesn't come out smelling like roses. So while Jayce' actions are drastic, they're also not unfounded.

Cait and Vi are amazing together, in any way, they are both strong but have a soft side, they are both funny, they can both handle a lot of crazy shit, Vi was in prison and Cait seems to feel a bit imprisoned in her situation, in her and her families position, wants to do what she wants and thinks is right or true but always getting those comments and looks from Marcus and her family and others. Vi is better at parkour but Cait is an excellent shot as she is and will tell you! She tells Vi she has a good heart, which she does, and Cait also has a good heart because she goes down to that dark place to get something to help Vi and gives up her weapon not even being selfish thinking oh I can't give this up because Vi is hurt and is not here to back me up at the moment, and what if I get attacked by someone in the shadows or whatever, that feeling to help and do something is more powerful than any fear that might be around, that is a good heart, and a brave one! Can't wait for you to see the next act, and don't apologize, replay the shit out of it if you want!

ah i remember what also hit me with jinxs character is that in the riotx arcane event you could read council archives about the characters and there were notes that jinx had written like: ''A sister wouldn't abandon me'' ''Family forgives'' ''We were never a family'' ''It's my fault, my fault'' ''I'm sorry'' - next to a drawing of Vander and also things like ''BROKEN, bRoKeN, BrOkEn'', ''I'm no good', ''Sister says I'm not good enough, She doesn't say it but she thinks it, I can see it when she looks at me, STOP LOOKING AT ME'' and i also screenshoted this short 'poem' (sort of?) she wrote ''All I ever had was her and SHE LEFT LEFT LEFT LEFT RIGHT LEFT the soldiers marched We were always their enemy No way to defend ourselves ALONE'' I love her character so much, it's so sad because its no ones fault it particular that she became like this and especially not hers

Vi's canon eye color is Purple - Violet - like her name. If you haven't noticed, most people have grey eyes. This is a subtle literary trick to convey that the person hasn't fully developed into who they are meant to be based on this saying: "The Eyes are the Windows to the Soul." Just a little detail most people miss.

I was glad that heimerdinger got kicked out of the council; hes just so clueless of everything despite being the "knowing elder." remember that one violin scene? all of the council members were doing shady business dealings while heimerdinger was the only one who was actually listening to the music. This just shows how detached he is from his surrounding, he's head of the council yet he has no idea of the corruption happening under his nose. and just like what jayce said, he hasn't really done anything but question any push for progress. Heimerdinger is like 300 years old and hasn't done anything about the situation in the undercity? he had all that time in his hands and never bothered to check? what does he do in his spare time?

Fun detail: crows symbolically represent change or transformation, and you see one every time Powder is at a moment where she is more fully becoming Jinx. For example, we saw one in their hideout that she shot before competing against Vi’s top scores in the punching machine (using the name POW for Powder). We then see one again in this scene when the flare dies out and her anger at Vi for not coming like she promised pushes her further towards being Jinx. It also shows up a bunch more in some really cool ways.
