What I’ve seen in some comments about Nick crying with the quiz isn’t because it’s 62% gay. It’s because it’s ONLY 62%. He is so incredibly confused, it wasn’t 100% it wasn’t 0%. It was 62%. He got no definitive answer. It’s left him still so confused with no answers, and that’s why he cries. He still knows nothing.

Honestly the show has a harder time portraying Taos character Id say, he does come off as a bit possessive, but in the comic you really see the emphasis on how much Tao had to help glue Charlies broken pieces together after being bullied, so he became very protective over him and for valid reason. Wish they had time to explain that more :(

I feel like, of all the adaptad characters, Tao's character got the hardest go of it. He's really not like this in the novels, he's still protective of course, but he's much softer about it. I know Alice wrote the tv series in a way that had to up the drama, so Tao's character got that push for that reason, but if you haven't read the novels before seeing the show it's really easy to have Tao annoy people because they don't really get full context for his actions.

Well, as someone who didn‘t know anything about Heartstopper when I first watched it, I still understood his character immediately. I actually don’t get why most reactors were/are so harsh with him in season 1 and don‘t even try to see things from his POV, they never give him an actual chance. This is probably kinda random, I just love Tao a lot, and his feelings have always made sense to me, even without the graphic novel context.

Tao has a good reason for being protective. They don’t really go into it during this season so they might just be going in a different direction but in the comics he was overheard talking about Charlie being gay and inadvertently outed him. He watched Charlie be bullied because of something he did so he’s super protective of him. Also keep in mind Tao doesn’t know Nick. He knows Harry and has seen how Nick and the rest of his friends seem to encourage Harry’s behaviour. Even the ones that don’t, like Nick, just stand by and let it happen over and over again. Nick does start standing up to Harry but again Tao doesn’t see that so it’s not really surprising he assumes Nick is just like his friends. I think Tao genuinely believes Nick is messing with Charlie and is trying to stop Charlie from being hurt in the only way he knows how.

A curiosity about Tao being so overprotective of Charlie: In the comics (it doesn't happen/shows in the series), he was the reason other people found out about Charlie's sexuality. In my opinion Tao's reactions to Charlie are not only from his fear of being abandoned, but mostly come from the fact that Charlie was heavily bullied not so long ago. He commented about how Nick hang out with guys that are not so great, so he is worried that Charlie is gonna end up being bullied just for being near Nick. This also explains why his father says "call me if you need me" instead of "have fun", since Charlie's bullying is still fresh in everyone's minds

You're one of the only few reactors that noticed the lights, other than the rainbow ones for Tara and Darcy, were a specific type of colors that represent something.

love ur reactions! more please. my reaction was just like you. with every scene, you'd be expecting some kind of drama, tension or conflict to happen but it didn't. and that's actually kinda realistic. not everything that happens has to lead to some complex stuff. sometimes it's just easily resolved. love this show so much

Gosh, I can relate to Charlie and Nick so much. Nick more so in my case, but regardless. For me, I first started realizing that I was "different" from the other guys maybe junior year of High School? I didn't have much time for girls, since I was in different sports, extra curriculars, and then home stuff. So, people started calling me "gay" and "f-word". I didn't really understand why, as at the time, I was more interested in girls. *TW* My senior year is when it finally started to click for me, I was talking with someone much like Charlie was. And I was sort of acting like Ben, not wanting people to know. However, I ended up being SAed, and it put me off from trying to be with anyone for awhile. I wasn't sure who I was, so I started doing those "Am I Gay" tests and getting results that honestly surprised me. I still didn't know what that meant for me. Coming from a Catholic family, and going to a Catholic University once I was set to graduate. *TW over* Once I was finally in uni, I finally was able to realize that maybe I am in fact gay, as I was trying to go out with women, and didn't quite feel a spark so to speak. It took me another two years after that to actually meet up with another guy for the first time and held his hand. Realized that I was actually "gay" in a way. I've now been with my partner for what will be 8 years this August. This series is so amazingly good, it's realistic. It's so special to me, which takes a lot, as I find it difficult to relate to most television characters. But when they're so much like you, and their experiences are so similar, it's difficult not to. Thank you for doing this react series for this. It really helps you to see it from other perspectives, and seeing stuff for a second time, in my case, helps you catch things that I didn't the first time. (Like Charlie asking Nick if he'd kiss someone who isn't a girl. Nick says I don't know. Charlie asks if he'd kiss him, and he says. Ugh! THIS was sooooo much my experience) I've subscribed, and I look forward to more of these, thank you again! 💙

I am obsessed with this show and have already binge watched it like 7 times. Like you i wish that I would have had such positive representation of LGBTQA+ when i was growing up to help me figure out who and what i was and to help me sort out my feelings and my identity. It touches my heart to see not only two gay boys but also two lesbian girls and a transgendered girl being shown in such a wonderful and positive way and that it will open the door for so many LGBTQA+ youth teens and young adults to have the courage to be able to be themselves and to be unapologetic about who they are. ❤🌈 The LGBTQA+ community need to lift up each other and support each other not just as one community but as one family. Together we are stronger than we are divided. You and all LGBTQA+ people are my brothers and sisters and you have my love and support because we are IN THIS TOGETHER!!!! ❤❤❤🌈 I love everything about this show and the new relationships that have been made and the friendships that have been made as well between the characters. Tao comes off as very angry and that everyone is against him when really his friends are still there and maybe they have other things going on in their own lives but at the end of the day they are still his friends. But i think we have all known or had a friend like Tao who expects everyone to constantly be with them at all times and never have any other friendships or relationships outside of the group or friendship with strickly them and it can cause issues and comes off as possessive and jealous and at times immature and petty. Even though Tao has a concern for Charlie's well being as his friend and doesn't want him to get hurt but at the same time he us hurting Charlie by always being bitter and mean towards his friendship/ relationship with Nick. I really hope there will be a season 2 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

In an interview Kit Connor (Nick) said that he doesn't cry easily on command, but this scene did bring it out more naturally. He used his own experiences of understanding himself as motivation for the character. He has said that although he his comfortable with his sexuality, he doesn't want to a label at this time, so let's not make any assumptions about his orientation or what those experiences were that he was drawing on in this scene. He could have been questioning himself in a completely different area. I struggled with these questions over 30 years ago, before I had access to internet. I couldn't Google it back then, but the feeling was the same.

I think people forget that he's feeling overwhelmed reading about hate crimes, conversion therapy & opposition to LGBT+ rights not just because it is what he may eventually face but because he's glimpsed into what Charlie definitely will or has faced and considering how much he cares for him, that must have added to the anguish :(

tao is not actually jealous of charlie making new friends, he’s being protective, they don’t explain it quite well on the show but when charlie was bullied last year he only had tao to help him and tao seeing that charlie is near to people that seems the same as the people that used to bullied him makes tao really worried and protective, he just doesn’t want charlie to end up hurt for having some “silly crush” on a rugby popular lad (we know nick is not like the rest of the group but tao doesn’t, we can’t forget that part). btw, i love your reactions!!!!

It's funny... (actually very sad) that we queer ppl always assume something bad it's going to happen because we didn't grow up watching possitive lgbt content, most of them has tragic endings and or a LOT of struggle and fight to get the somewhat happy ending. So the whole rant about the camera and something miss placed makes us feel so anxious. that feeling made me watch the whole show in one night and read all the books on the other day just to feel safe about happens to them. i'm 27 now, but nothing made me feel like the 13 old me so happy.

I just remembered when I deleted all my search history when trynna figure out if I was gay because I thought my parents were homophobic. Thankfully they aren't and they're both super supportive (I'm a lesbian and non binary :D) and they even got me a pronoun badge! It really sucks that some other don't get the support they deserve though, but there will always be at least one person who does
