I love the way they portray Nicks feelings for Charlie. When Charlie asks him about going out with someone who isn’t a girl or kissing someone who isn’t a girl Nick’s response is “I don’t know”. But when asked if he would kiss Charlie he says “yes”. He’s not sure about his sexuality or how he identifies but he is so sure about his feelings for Charlie and he never wavers in that ♥️

The first time I watched the show, I kept expecting Nick to somehow mess up or something. I also feel like Nick witnessing the Tara-Darcy kiss was so important because of the sheer queer euphoria it shows. i do think the main reason is nick needed to at least "make up" with harry because they're the only people he really hangs around at school besides charlie thanks to being on the rugby team with them, and to have animosity during practice and stuff would be potentially threatening nick's safety on the field. and nick's whole thing is kinda being afraid to shake up the status quo, etc. do things that surprise or upset people. he's definitely a bit of a people pleaser in that sense, so he'd want to have that safety net, so to speak.

I feel like it's a combination of more things. I'm sure he was a bit intimidated with the way they were standing all on one side (at first I thought they were gonna beat him up), but also he wanted to extract himself from the situation quickly so he could go back to Charlie. You can hear in his voice he's over the conversation already and is trying to hurry it along. I also feel like while he was regretting leaving Charlie after such an intimate moment, he really did the best he could in that situation. Imagine if he didn't come to the group and they were looking for him and found him and Charlie? Definitely wouldn't be good. So I feel like in this situation I can forgive him for leaving, he only tried to get rid of them as quickly as possible without involving Charlie. Maybe he could've said something like "wait here, I'm right back." but Charlie would probably leave either way. And after that kiss I'm sure both of them were functioning with like 40% of their brain.

The ‘warping’ of Charlie’s memories was really well done and if we get a season 2 we’ll definitely go into that more based off of the graphic novel. There’s more to it than just his anxieties, I’ll say. I like that you do understand where Tao is coming from. He’s definitely not going about things in the right way but he’s doing it for the right reasons. His best friend is in trouble from his viewpoint (he thinks Nick is leading Charlie on and is going to turn out to be like the bullies from the year prior). Charlie doesn’t stick up for himself do Tao thinks he has to for him. But yeah he’s definitely insecure and doing things all wrong.

The intrusive thoughts really are like that. Knowing full well what was said in the moment, yet the brain keeps contriving ways to twist even the clearest events into layers of doubts and pity. I like how alice portayed this in the comic as well. The intrusive thought in that moment wasn't Nick flat out saying no. It was Nick's uncertain face when he was being called by one of the lads, and thinking that uncertainty was actually about them kissing. Both of those things _happened,_ but not in the way that charlie's brain is portraying it to be.

And even when he's figuring out his sexuality he does it relatively fast and confidently, cause he has that reassurance that he definitely likes Charlie a lot. I’m 35 and am obsessed with it. It’s just gets me right in the heart and is so much of what I’ve always been searching for in the media. There are so few healthy and beautiful love stories out there at all (gay or straight) and basically all queer love stories come with the expectation of sad tropes, stereotypes, lost love etc. I CANNOT put into words how much it means to me to see two boys be guided by their love for one another and let not the outside world stop them. It’s exactly what I always needed. 💞 Really powerful stuff. I don’t know if I will ever settle for queerbaiting again after this. 😂 I’ve also heard of a lot of (mostly older) viewers being a bit heart broken by the show, bc of what we didn’t have growing up, or perhaps even now. That’s totally valid, but I think admitting what we deserve is a huge step in healing.

Slight clarification. The canon is that Nick and Charlie live fairly close to each, “only a couple of streets away” and “it only takes a minute to drive there”. This is also the case in the show with them living in adjacent neighborhoods. So what’s the reason they walked in different directions? Well story obviously, but also because Charlie was heading to the bus stop, while Nick was heading to the parking lot to get picked up by his mom.

I had the same fears you expressed: 1) that Charlie would be so upset that he's settle for Ben, and 2) that someone would interrupt the kiss. One thing I noticed in this time period of this season is that the characters are always in control of when they come out (except for what happened in the previous school year!). Is it entirely realistic? No, but what romance is? Alice Oseman gives her characters agency and the right to control when they come - no romantic scenes interrupted by a bully, etc. This is just one of the many things that makes this show so positive and wonderful to watch (although it sure is stressful the first time!).

I love what you said about that moment with Nick and Tara and making coming out a big deal vs not because I think, I mean Nick says in this scene that the only openly gay person he knows is Charlie, and he saw Charlie get outed and bullied in a really horrible way, and I’ve always thought that in this episode when Tara tells Nick “not make a big announcement, but just not keep it a secret, and then sees them dancing and kissing, I think he realizes that he can just be with Charlie without himself the center of attention. That moment on the dance floor with Tara and Darcy is one of my favorite moments in the show because seeing Nick’s pure joy and the realization that he can just go for what he wants makes me so happy ahhh I love it 🥺💗

I’ve been watching quite a few people reacting to this show (it feels like watching with friends). I agree that it’s better to spread out the eps, but it’s really hard !! I have to say, of all the reactions I’ve seen, I think I enjoy yours the most. 👍🏻😊 Your reaction at the end of the ep, “Fuck you” is basically how I felt every episode. 😂 I get it dude.
