Thanks Les Frenches! My my first time through Charles De Gauall was quite interesting. Honestly, I'm quite sure the language had a lot to do with my experience, had my French been just a little bit more proficient, my Charles De Gaull experience would have been much more smoother, but now I know. You both pointed out a major point at the top of the video, "GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME" It's super important that traveller's do so, especially if you don't speak the native language (french) I arrived on time at the airport, but I think the mistake I made was, I got so loss into navigating my way to my gate, that I forgot to do my "tax refund" at the airport immediately upon arrival. Point black, I just didn't want to miss my flight. Needless to say I was livid when I realized that I didn't do my refund. I mean I had already gotten passed customs and border, and of course I was told I could no longer do it. Wait for this, I found an (Refund booth) not too far from the American Airline waiting area. I walked up to the agent, (politely greeted her 'Bonjour'. She asked to see my passport, then she goes, but you don't have a certain stamp, that you're supposed to have, you get that when you arrived at the airport" I nod my head in sheer disappointment, as here I'm with an over $200 of tax refund, that I was so looking forward to smh I then walked back to the waiting area, and sat down in an attempt to calm my frustration. Whilst waiting I met a fellow American, dressed in her uniform; she works for American Airline, and so I explained my situation to her, she said don't worry, you do have option you know, take the refund paper work that you were given by the merchant, and when you arrived in New York, take it to the French consultate in Manhattan, and they should be able to process it for you. I still haven't done so, but I'm planning on doing so, as soon as my busy schedule permits me to so. I was told that I have three months to do it. Another thing that annoyed me a bit, was the shuttle. We had to take it to the arrival gate, in order to be processed by Customs upon our arrival in Paris. I thought it was just too much, and so primitive, and especially given the fact the weather was warm too, and forget it if you're dressed fall/winter like, you'll be sweating for sure smh I took the Metro to the airport when I was Ieaving. I paid 10.50💶; again, a very smooth ride from the center of Paris. I got off at Gare de Nord (on the local Metro), and then opted on to the B, where routes it directly to the Airport. Travellers do want to be careful which side of the platform to take the "B" from, as one can easily get loss, and find their way on the wrong side, which of course could cause you to missed your flight ✈️ Nonetheless, I love Paris! Beautiful culture, stunning architecture, and overall great people. I have to visit again!! Paris should be on everyone's bucket list 🥰

BIG REMINDER: Not all RER B trains go to CDG. We were about to board a train on B track when a kind gentleman saw we had suitcases and realized we were going to CDG. He told us the train pulling in wasn't going there. Check the front of the locomotive to see the destination. You could get screwed. This happened during morning rush hour. They didn't mention Terminal 3 which is where we landed from Canada. You have short walk to the main terminal building to catch the trains into Paris and the reverse when you're leaving. Otherwise this vid has great info.

@jatinkumardesai583 there is the Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV station near terminal 2E. I looked it up when we started planning our trip. You just have to look at the destination sign in front of the train to see the mission. Those that go to CDG starts with E (ex.: EPOI, EROC, ERTE, EPLA, etc). From CDG, the RER B goes to Robinson and St-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse.

Two more tips: a) If you're planning to get to the airport via train, check online ahead of time before heading to the train terminal to make sure there isn't a rail strike that day. (I assume the same applies to buses.) There are websites you can check for news of upcoming strikes; WORLDINPARIS is one of them. Also, when there is a rail strike, demand for taxis naturally goes up so it may take longer to get one. Transportation strikes are much more common in France than in the u.s. so be prepared; we got zapped unexpectedly with this one on our first trip to Paris. b) Another transport option: some hotels offer shuttle transportation to CDG -- pricier than some other options, but also hassle-free. You may need to reserve ahead of time rather than on the morning of your departure.
@RB-zr9jt2 жыл бұрын
That's excellent advice!

I somewhat agree about the hotel shuttle. However, my wife and I took this option and advised the hotel we needed to be at CDG at least two hours before departure (pre-Covid days). All good, the arrived promptly…and then preceded in the opposite direction, picking up another traveler in a far distant arrondissement. Yes, we made the flight, but only via the thinnest enamel veneer of our teeth. Since then it has been RER all the he way.

I'm glad you added the last part about having to take a bus out to the plane. We were on a large jet to JFK so I was surprised we did not depart directly from the gate. We had the added stress that I could pulled aside for a random security check at the gate and they told my husband to continue on to the plane. The group who was pulled aside boarded last, he'd been on the plane for an hour not knowing where I was.

Great video! I am considering a solo trip to Paris at the end of February and navigating a large airport can be daunting ( my local airport is tiny). For my Paris visit (next year, at the earliest), I've already begun preparing, especially the Metro. Might I suggest Googling the various Metro lines that you'll think you'll use (probably Line 1 the most), then print out just that line so you can focus on all the stops on that line. I've done this for Line 1 and will probably do at least one or two more lines, including transfer stations to know where I need to change lines.
@t71472 жыл бұрын
Fantastic video with very important realistic time estimates! For me, I take the Metro/RER to CDG - but that's because I know where all the escalators are and how to avoid the stairs being I have at least two bags with me (one rolling bag, one carryon), and where a backup elevator option is if the escalators aren't working. They usually are, especially if they are in the Metro stations that connect to the RER, but there's still a chance. I usually do a test run through the Metro to the RER station the day before, to check if there's any repairs going on, just in case. If you decide to take this option, you may want to consider how dependent you'll be on escalators or elevators first. It can be a great option! 🙂

@@lauraguida8482 Yes, I'm a mature age person. I have registered myself with the airlines and confirm these arrangements when making my bookings. They also collect me from the gate upon my arrival and take me all the way through including customs and baggage collection. The downside, no duty free and you can't stop to collect food and drink to take with you. I only fly 2 airlines out of Australia, Virgin and Emirates. I hope this answers your question.

Last October departing France through CDG was chaos. I have never experienced such long and unmanaged lines. Arrived more than 3 hours early and barely had time for a pit stop before boarding began. And this was before non-US citizens were allowed to travel to the States. So when I was flying home two weeks ago (and I always fly out around 10:30 AM), I gave myself a full 4 hours. That meant I had to take one of the first RER trains. I was so worried. Shouldn’t have been. No lines. Not even at passport control, where last year I stood in line for over an hour. And security was a breeze. I arrived at an almost empty Concourse M with two hours to kill before boarding started. I could actually sit and calmly enjoy my last breakfast in France. Back home, I read about long lines later the same week. This is a wordy way of saying that you just never know. Give yourself plenty of time to relieve the stress.

Note: There is cross-platform interchange from RER B (Southbound) to RER A (Eastbound) at Chatelet Les Halles, so it is very easy to head to Gare de Lyon, Nation, etc. on the RER. Similarly with RER A (Westbound) and RER B (Northbound). Going to other RER lines is still easy, but does involve two escalators and a little bit of walking. Changing to the Metro is much less easy.

Thanks for another informative video. We will be arriving and departing at terminal 2E, good to know about the different concourse. We usually get to the airport 3 hours before our flight because we like to take our time to eat and browse shops (pick up a book to read) and not rush to go to the gate. Looks like we might need more time when departing from CDG.

Just one method of getting to CDG you did not mention is by local bus 350, costs only €2.10 - with a standard RATP t+ ticket leaves from Porte de la Chapelle which can be reached by other buses or tram on the same ticket. This is a really bargain option if you a have lots of time or are planning to stay the night at the airport.

Excellent points! I learned and used 3 of these while on solo trips to Paris - "on the fly" (pun intended). RER was good but made me anxious about time. I used taxi one time and was okay paying the price (not thrilled but it was a good trade off). The last time in 4Q 2019 I stayed at airport hotel. More expensive but least stress. Your other points (such as being sure you're in the correct line) are good - may seem "obvious" but can easily be missed when you're in such busy CDG. I'm going to review this one again to have the other ways in my memory bank for another time. Thanks.

This video brought back my PTSD! Just kidding. We have done quite a bit of traveling to France and the UK in our time and CDG is one of my least favorite airports. In most instances we have departing flights to the east coast in the late morning so we will always try to get a room at the Ibis. Fairly decent place that is just off the CDGVAL line. In September we had an afternoon flight (2PM) and I thought I was going to be slick and leave early and drive over from Bayeux. This was a very stressful drive my 3 hour buffer was cut to just making it to the check in with minutes to spare. There was a crash on the A1 which had us divert to the A3 and you guessed it the traffic was a total cluster. I'm sure we will never try that again and just get a room at the airport. Cheers! hg

Our flight in to Paris from Florence drops us off at Terminal 2F with only a little above an hour to reach our connecting flight in terminal 2E. We haven't received any gate information yet since it is way to early, but I can across research that we would have to go through passport control again once arriving to CDG. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, cheers!

It would not be "once again" for passport control as France and Italy are both Schengen countries, so no passport control for them. You will have to go through security and passport control to get into Terminal 2E (maybe you meant security as "once again" - yep, no connection airside between 2F and 2E so you will have to clear security). I have transferred between 2E and 2F many times. 60 minutes is plenty of time if you are flying Business Class (dedicated lines for both security and passport control), especially if you are leaving from 2E Gate K (add 15 minutes for 2E Gate L or M). Unfortunately, without high Flying Blue or Skyteam status or Business Class, 60 minutes is a VERY poor bet to transfer. I would be surprised if you make it, but good luck. Stranger things have happened.

thank you for this, So If I am leaving from terminal 2, Gate L45 I would take a shuttle to L and go through security over there, not in the main terminal?

Do you Know if it's easier when you travel from París to Italy? Never been in Europe. I'm nervous 😮

Once you are here, you won't need to use your passport to go to other countries in the Shengan area (including Italy, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, etc) Is like traveling between states in the US.

Thank you so much for such an informative video - you guys are incredible! I have a question - you’re saying that the taxi fare is flat - going to the city as well (I’m assuming)? Before we used to take this bus you’re talking about in the video, but this time - we’ll arrive in January, I just worry about walking with the luggage from the Opera to the hotel, so feel like taxis our best bet. We’ll stay in the Le Halle area. Thank you so much again - you have no idea how much we appreciate what you do!
