I've had a similar experience, but the time gap was only about 3 years or so. The guy that made the music had uploaded it on two separate channels, and I asked if the older, defunct channel was also his, along with where I had originally found the music (linked in some story, on a forum, by someone also claiming to have made it). His response was "[that is a] VERY old account. Where the Hell did you crawl out of with that arcane knowledge?" It still makes me chuckle to think about.
