Deadliest Journey - Colombia: the crazy pilots of the Amazon

In Colombia, pilots risk their lives to connect Indian communities scattered across the Amazon rainforest. Aboard DC-3s, old propeller planes built before the war, these pilots regularly take an air route considered to be one of the most dangerous on the planet. These planes are the only ones in the world that can land on very short dirt runways, which often end in a ravine. Commander Raúl and his crew travel to the Colombian jungle. Their DC-3 is like a bush taxi: it takes off when it is full of goods and passengers. But on these old planes, another danger threatens: mechanical breakdown.

I flew in these planes in Guatemala ~45 yrs. ago. Here you really feel the vibes of flying. Today are modern planes are just as fragile as the old ones, it's not about high Tech. today it's about the brave pilots from yesteday, today and the future.

I am an Indian housewife. I never travel abroad and perhaps can not be able to visit abroad in the rest of my life. But I am astonished to witness the condition of the runway from where the aeroplane takes off and where the aeroplane lands. Is it an airport where neither a concrete runway nor an A.T.C. tower exists ? What a fun ! I am also astonished to experience the skill of pilot Raul and his lady co-pilot. At last but not the least I would like to pay my respect, sincere gratitude and salute to all the laborious people, citizens and inhabitants of the great nation Columbia. From India with love !

I frequently fly in Alaskan bush planes. The weather prevents flights quite often. You should see the ABSOLUTE RAGE of rich tourists screaming and causing a scene about weather delays. Like the pilots can control the weather. The pilot has the final say if the flight occurs or not. They think the pilot is lazy or afraid. These are float planes that land on the ocean in SE Alaska. Usually its fog that cancels flights or heavy wind/surf. If you cannot see the water to land on it, you're in trouble. Or the wind or heavy surf can flip the plane. These city dwelling idiots seem to think the money they spend to get a taste of life in the bush should afford them good weather. Well. Weather IS BUSH LIFE. Lol

El DC3 solía ser el último vuelo los domingos por la noche desde Nassau, Bahamas a Fort Lauderdale y lo tomé muchas veces. Mi vecino de al lado era piloto y me dijo que era un avión fantástico. Una vez lo hice como último vuelo en medio de un huracán y aprendí que cuando un guiso te pregunta si quieres una bebida antes de que despegue el vuelo, es mejor que la tomes. El hecho de que el DC 3 todavía esté volando respalda todas las cosas positivas que me dijeron, además de que las hélices son más confiables en las tormentas que los aviones. Me encanta este video y el avión se ve genial.

❤❤❤❤❤❤ Wow un reportaje muy bueno. Preciosos DC3, gente valiente que los pilota y los repara así como sus pasajeros. El piloto fumigador también es un ser fuera de serie. La música muy linda en México en la región de las huastecas es muy parecida ( huapangos, sones y jaranas se les llama) igual habla de las actividades del dia a día en el campo y poblados pequeños. the way the DC 3s are flown and maintained reminds me of running old cars.. Barely keeping them going, risking breakdowns but the pilots just keep doing what they have to do with a cheerful attitude as well... Love the weekly barbeques that bring the people together... excellent video documentary
