I never though blues and classical were anything alike, and yet here we are. Gives me more motivation to give traditional lessons another go. Thanks Dr. K!

Best thing is to listen to some people improvising using the pentatonic and pick up hints from there. Start listening toJools Holland's piano solos to hear the pentatonic in action.

I think a new Model D is more like £110-120,000. But I love your lessons. Over Summer I'm going to have to go back over all of them and really polish my Boogie and Blues playing. Keep 'em coming!

Looks like you've been busy over the last week or so Brendan. I only got a message this morning from KZbin subscribers so I have to catch up on the new videos. I treasure the advice and the walkaround on the Steinway was also great. You are a very well rounded player and it really shows.

Dr. K, I love how you keep playing stuff after the lesson. A Steinway will do that to you! I love them when I get a chance to play them!

You are a God my friend! Truly amazing!!! I'm not too good with keeping my left hand with a steady blues bass line while soloing with the right! Any tips on practice and such? Cheers!

Cheers Johnno. I only had access to the Steinway for five days hence the rather manic uploads of late. BK

Cool lesson, loving that piano. I was wondering if you have any tips on how to use the scale while improvising, I find myself just going up and down the piano without much variety in my playing.

I know this as the "blues scale" which is derived from the minor pentatonic scale. Did you mean blues scale?

I also occasionally teach that Bach c minor prelude to build coordination and technical skill, but most of the WTC is very difficult to both read and play well, even for me after playing for over 50 years. I leave Bach to Glenn Gould for the most part...he was a hard act to follow, yet people try. I would say the F Major Invention is also useful to students from a technical standpoint, but I think much of Bach is generally too esoteric for beginners, and would be discouraging as an exercise...just one teacher's opinion.

Is the Penatonic Scale a C Minor? I can see a B Flat but am not too sure on whether you're hitting an E Flat? Thanks in advance.

Understandable. If I had access to a Steinway for 5 days and 5 only, I would play until my fingers were one knuckle shorter. :-)
