I would like to know when/in what situation "mikäs" or "kukas" or "minne" is used.

Doesn't "koska" also mean "because"? Because I'm a little bit confused ;)
@FinnishWithAnna
@FinnishWithAnna 5 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, it's like "kuusi" (spruce) and "kuusi" (number six) and means both "when" and "because". Context helps in figuring out the meaning. :-)

You can also say "montako" instead of "kuinka monta" or "miten monta"!

Also, can we use "mihin" instead of "minne"? Are these words synonyms as well or there is a difference in using them? And I have a bit of confusion about "mikä?" and "mitä?" - does the difference just depend on the case of the thing/noun we are asking for - mikä is for nominatiivi and mitä for partitiivi? I know both can be basically translated as "what?", but I also know that in Finnish there can be a difference between "what?" and "what?". ;)
@FinnishWithAnna
@FinnishWithAnna 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, "minne" and "mihin" mean the same thing, so you can use either one. "Mikä" and "mitä" are translated to English simply as "what", but like you say, "mitä" is the partitiivi form. There is a slight difference in meaning, so you can't use them interchangeably. Simply put, use "mikä" when you speak of concrete, countable things and "mitä" when you speak of more abstract and non-countable things.

Thanks, this is useful. You may want to reconsider the way you explain vowel harmony though. It's not about letters, but sounds (front and back vowels). Not sure if you have an extra video on vowel harmony, but since this is a salient feature of Finnish maybe you want to add one.

Well since Finnish is written 99 % phonetically I don't think it makes much of a difference.

Can anyone explain to me the difference between "minne" and "mihin"? As I learned, "minne" also means to where, when you ask someone going to or something is going to the location. For instance Minne sinä menet? - Where are you going? I get a little confused about these 😟 Kiitos paljon!!!

Hi. "missa sinun on maasi?" Is it correct?
@FinnishWithAnna
@FinnishWithAnna 3 жыл бұрын
"Missä sinun maasi on?" would be correct (sinun maasi, meaning 'your country' is an entity of sorts and should not broken by the verb.

I just started learning Finnish and got confused with "General rule: if the verb has ä or ö, choose -kö". For example "myytkö?" does not have "ä or ö" in "myy", but intuitively you still want to add -kö. Probably because "y" positions your tongue same way as "ä" and "ö" and you finish the word with the same intonation.
@Anjasotherchannel
@Anjasotherchannel Жыл бұрын
it's better to remember it in the way: if there is a, o or u in a word, use the ending with a, o or u, else use the ending with ä, ö or y
