EDIT: I think I figured it out. Fir tree is "kuusen" so I'm wonder if that is a conjugation of kuusen → -kuusi → joulukuusi. Moi! Am I reading this right that Christmas tree is a compound of Christmas (joulu) and six (kuusi)? If that's correct, is there some significance to using the number six there? Kiitos.

I just started these lesson and am learning so much! Is the "s" in Finnish (suomea) pronounced a little differently than the "s" in English (englantia)? To my ear, it sounds like it's between "s" and "sh" or "sz" (in other languages), especially at the end of a word like "kiitos."

This video series is proving so useful. I have learned many things that have never been covered in any other material I've come acoss, whether textbooks, online courses or videos. It really helps to have the rules explained, as this helps to make sense of the many seemingly random changes in word stems. Thanks for bringing order into chaos!

Kiisseli is also present in Poland. The name even sounds similar: "kisiel", but a pronunciation is way, way different to the Finnish one.
