@TheKaqino WHOM is used only as an object: 1. Whom did you see? (I saw + WHOM) 2. To WHOM are you speaking? (I am speaking to WHOM) WHOM is mainly used in more formal English. In everyday speech, we say, "Who did you see?" / "Who are you speaking to?" You'll also see WHO/ WHOM in relative (adjective) clauses: I know some celebrities WHO are really generous, caring people. The celebrities WHOM the media writes about should guard their privacy.

I think technically, yes, but when it's understood that each of us has one (in this case "one birthday"), then using the singular isn't necessarily heard as a mistake. It's similar to a teacher saying to the whole class, "Please use a pencil on the test." (= Of course, each student has his or her own pencil.) Does that make sense?

Dear Prof, Are they correct? With or without comma 1) Inside a fortune cookie there's a strip of paper ON THAT You Can read your fortune 2) Inside a fortune cookie there' s a strip of paper , ON WHICH You Can read your fortune
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 9 жыл бұрын
+Andrea Giraldo Hi Andrea. "On which" is preferred. Also, it's necessary information, so a comma isn't used. We call this an identifying clause. Inside a fortune cookie, there's a strip of paper on which you can read your fortune. >> Even more natural: Inside a fortune cookie there's a strip of paper with your fortune written on it.

Hello. IT'S is short for IT IS. The new board is big and white. IT'S new. (IT IS new.) ITS answers the question WHOSE? It belongs to the group of possessive adjectives: my, your, her, his, our, their. For example: our purpose, their purpose, its purpose. IT refers to a thing, not a person.
