Hi,Jennifer... For instance there are 2 people with the surname "Johnson" and are not related to each other....Can I say Johnsons are very rich? My doubt is if two people have the same name or surname,how to address them at the same time ... I think we can't pluralise proper nouns
@EnglishwithjenniferКүн бұрын
Hi. I'd use their first names to clarify: Both Tom and Bill Johnson are very rich.

@EnglishwithjenniferКүн бұрын
So glad to hear that. Did you have your interview yet? Good luck! The truth is that many citizens (born here) should review the basics that we learned back in elementary school! I've had the thought that there should be a short quiz of just 3 questions before someone can vote. For example: (1) Name the current president and vice president. (2) Name the three branches of the US government. (3) How many stars are on the US flag and why? The citizenship exam is much harder than that.

@Englishwithjennifer5 күн бұрын
Glad you liked it. Yes, this is more advanced. I've heard some of my upper level private students confuse these pronouns, and I believe others need to understand the nuances, for example, familiarity/approval (this) vs. distance (that).

Thanks for watching and sharing your view. This year has been full of unexpected happenings, and it's only July. My goal right now is to present relevant vocabulary and concepts in a way that will help people make sense of the current events. I recognize that different conclusions will be drawn. At least, those previously unfamiliar with what delegates were can now understand what arguments are being made.

Thank you, sounds very objective. But in this case they are denying the will of 14M D primary voters due to not being honest in the fact their encumbent is unfit for office. Seems very dishonest in my opinion.
@Englishwithjennifer6 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. It's certainly been an unusual election year so far. Yes, I try to leave out personal political views. As a language teacher, I just want to present the relevant vocabulary and concepts objectively so that learners can make sense of what is happening and follow discussions in various contexts. They're then better able to voice an opinion if they wish.

Jennifer, aren’t this and that supposed to have noun phrase antecedents?

Yes ma'am, please depict the following structure clearly...It+be+adj+infinitive+adjective+noun clause or that clause...I think this is not a cleft structure...what is the basic distinction between my aforementioned "it" structure & cleft structure (It cleft, wh cleft, all cleft)...
@Englishwithjennifer7 күн бұрын
Hello. I think you may be asking about the difference between a basic statement with IT as a dummy subject versus an IT cleft. a) IT as a placeholder/dummy subject It's helpful to have quizzes in the lesson. >> The real subject is: to have quizzes in the lesson. >> Rephrasing this to: Having quizzes in the lesson is helpful. b) IT cleft It's the quizzes that make the lesson especially effective. The focus is on "the quizzes." It's followed by the adjective clause "that make the lesson especially effective." >> Rephrasing this to: The quizzes make the lesson especially effective. (without the highlight) Hope this helps.
@talukdartalukdar36435 күн бұрын
@@Englishwithjennifer thanks ma'am, but my "that clause" is not an adjective clause, it is a noun clause. In case of adj clause, tha rephrasing is simple, but in case of noun clause, it becomes difficult to rephrasing...

Cursive is so much faster and easier than printing. Actually, after learning cursive in grade school, it was required for all assignments and printing was not allowed. To this day. I still feel that printing is for children.
@Englishwithjennifer7 күн бұрын
I end up mixing the two. My everyday writing combines printing with cursive. Sometimes I challenge my kids to read my handwritten notes and messages. :)
