This was, in my opinion, the best discussion and most biblically sound teaching of the Sabbath School Lesson I have heard on Hope Sabbath School. I am happy for the uncompromising way it was presented. The one element of compromise introduced was successfully extinguished and other truths prevailed. Praise the Lord! It lets me know that those who, even after the hard knocks sustained from following the ways of the world in handling money turn or return to handling it in His way are always winners for if! It doesn't mean that they will necessarily be financially richer for it but it does mean their life will be enhanced (blessed) because of it. I hope this lesson will be an inspiration to many pastors and church leaders to educate church members in how to manage their lives for God. This has been ignored and is sorely needed. We have had the very precious information given through the Prophetic Gift for many decades and of course the biblical information and have been negligent in studying and applying its principles. It's time for a reform in these matters. Our texts are the Bible and "Counsels on Stewardship. Our teacher is the Holy Spirit. We can expect success with this combination.

God was so good to me in freeing me from debt. It is now 21 years that I'm debt free. It took some determination and persistence also on my part but Good was faithful in making me strong. It is soooooooo liberating and I would like all those who are still in chains of debt to put a small portion in savings each month and pay off as much as you can to quickly pay off the debt. At the end thereof you will have a substantial nest egg and would not have any need or desire to fall back into debt. May God give you determination and perseverance to push through.

When considering buying a home or pursuing education or similar debts, these are also investments. But we should still try to minimize amounts owed, and not reach beyond our means of repayment.

Owes no one anything, does not mean you can't borrow. It would means, at least to me, that once you borrow you must make every effort to pay. I borrowed to start a business that went bankrupt, and couldn't pay as was expected. It was a burden to me. I stopped paying but it was always on my mind. God knew that i wanted to pay off my debt. A few years later i was offered a settlement contact which i agreed to. I now have to use my savings to cover that. I am happy that i will finally get rid of that burden.

We must lay up our treasure in heaven we must seek God for his guidance with wisdom so that we may make wise decisions and choices so that we may not end up in dented to anyone. When we die we cannot take anything with us , so let us be careful not to follow what the world does .

This is timely lesson, have been struggling with debt and lack of career my whole life .8 hope one day I shall break free and reach the promise land . I also pray my country Zambia will be financially independent, we are back on debt first time was in the 70's to 90's and we are back again . We God see us through and we may never again find ourselves in huge debts .

Tithe and offerings first Budget well Save for emergencies (a back-up of 3 months' expenses is a good buffer) Cut you coat according to your cloth Do NOT push the boundaries, i.e. allow some slack when calculating how much you can spend on any single item Never lend more than you can afford to lose People will always have money for what they want, even if they don't have money for what they need.

Pretty good summary. Our mother use to tell us the one about cutting your dress according to the amount of fabric you have. She used to also say, "Don't hang your hat higher than you can reach it." You may hang it within stretching height but not to where it will be a problem reaching it.

@@edithdotson5617 I was raised in a time and country where the welfare state did not exist. We learned very quickly to live within our means. If the soup was thin at times, at least it was fairly tasty, and the accompanying bread was cheap. Hand-me-down clothing, second-hand furniture, public transport and absolutely nothing spent on meals out or entertainment was the order of the day. We not only survived, we thrived.

This lesson is about avoiding debt. NOT dealing with debt. You all ( well most of you) misinterpret the opening verse. Jonathan was saying it correct. It is referring to our relationships, personal and civic , being a law-abiding citizen of your country. Most of all wanting revenge on others. Love them instead. It sounds like you are in that 1%. Who can cash out on a car? a house?! no one I know. How do people who doesn't have enough food to eat to save for emergency? Their whole life is the emergency. Top 1% cannot relate to the 99%. GOD gave Israel way to loan within their fellowmen and without. You just condemned 98% of us. Thank You...Deut 23:19 Do not charge interest...Ex 22:25 lend money to any of my people who is poor...

Umm, let's talk about T.i.m.i.n.g!!! When you are teaching about God's promises and answers to your issues/problems, please be intentional in stating that it may NOT be resolved in the way AND time you think it should. God may, and HE has stretched you beyond your perceived ability to manage that trial!!! We trust God to answer us, but remember in HIS timing. This factor frustrates and disappoints many people!
