Really excellent breakdown of the guitar part in this classic song. Well played, sir. I can’t fathom the level of talent and the depth of creativity possessed by Larry Carlton to come up with this at the time in the studio with Donald and Walter. Mad scientists and musical alchemy at its finest. I’ve listened to this recording more times than I can recall over the years and it never gets old. This vid of yours is a nice peek behind the curtain. New subscriber now!

Great job thumbs up. It is funny that absolutely no one, and I mean NO ONE, talks about how to play rhythm guitar behind that Carlton solo. That is a shame. Becker played a chunky rhythm part all through the live years start in the mid 90's, and everyone , and I mean EVERYONE, conveniently avoids it. RIP Walt and forgive these folks.

Agreed. Would love to be able to cheat a bit and have someone play through the rhythm part behind the first solo. Working on it now, looking for some kind of pattern to remember all those chords. Another good vid Dave, thanks.

urbansoul02 rhythm guitar is a dying art form and I don’t know why.., actually I DO know why.., but rather you can shred or not, a guitar solo is usually a couple :22 second blips in a 4:00 minute song.., what do you do the rest of the time ? 🧐

Dave, I I'm looking to find out how to play rhythm guitar during the guitar solo? of the dozens of kid Charlemagne guitae breakdown lessons on KZbin , none go over how to play the rhythm during the solo, and it's got the tricky stops in it, so I'm really surprised not a single person has broken it down? Can you do this and put it on here or send me a message or something?
@DavesGuitarChannel5 жыл бұрын
Its extremely low in the mix. I know part of it is the same as the verses. I will give it a close listen post it. Thanks for watching.
@ambrid58375 жыл бұрын
@@DavesGuitarChannel I tried to follow it and "create" a medley of parts going on, into a guitar rhythm.. I suppose if I was just trying to find a guitar rhythm it's like you say, buried low volume and deep in the mix. I'd like to play this song solo , at an open mic, on an acoustic guitar..and so seek help on the solo break. ☺️

Hey Dave....great lesson and you're a damn fine guitarist. You make it look so easy and I feel like I should relegate my (3) axes to kindling. :) Got a question for you though.....I've been playing rhythm guitar along with the recorded version for a loooong time. I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to phrase the chords and it's really pissing me off that I'm just not envisioning how to translate what I hear to the guitar. I actually need to see someone doing it so here I am. Some of the later portion I can play with confidence. I have a gut feeling there may be many others out there who share my frustration.....but, I've been wrong in the past. :) So...do you have a video showing how you're just playing the chords/phrasing throughout the lead solo section? Do you know if my quest is on another link? I'm sure you're busy but I had to ask.....thanks again.....any comments or direction appreciated. Keep up the good work.

Good question..because as mentioned several times here in the comments: NO ONE provides any instruction on what the chords are behind the solo. (How about showing this Dave?)
