This is great! I am currently putting together our American history unit and while I was tempted to just buy "sonlight/bookshark" boxed & ready to go, it just didn't feel right for my family (not to mention costly $$$). I really want to personalize our History and parallel my own ancestors and my own religious history with early American history and these awesome videos are helping me figure out how to plan it all out. THANK YOU!

You can do it!! Plus if you find books from the library, you can save a lot of money in the process. And what a great idea to bring in your own family and religious history. That's one of the perks of designing your own lessons :)

The story behind Genevive Foster, as my mom told me, is that she watched her son come home from school every day and have no life in the history, so she wrote historical nonfiction books for her children that became a living textbook. Isn't that beautiful?! We love Jean Fritz, so I hope that he really enjoys that for you. A fun activity might be to make a exploration journal-- kind of along the lines of bullet journals.

A few books we have for Columbus is Childhood of world figures: Christopher Columbus, the D'aulaire authors did beautiful works and Columbus is one of them. Books are my one weakness.

Love this!!! Thank you!! How do you have your son do a narration of the book he's read? Does he just verbally tell you about the story or is it in written form? If so, what does that look like?

Jackie G I would love to know this too. I'm interested in what type of written work goes along with this type of unit. I love this video. Thank you Hana :-)
