Confession. I found you years ago and I compiled all the books well most. But we never hit to them. I had a series of life events that derailed it all. Then I got on the curriculum merry go round. Sigh and now tests later...I'm back. So I'm looking at so many videos and hoping to pull it all together! Lol

Welcome back! Sometimes it takes personal experience and trial and error to find what works for a family. I’m glad you’re finding that now.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of your homeschool videos. Thank you so much for inspiring so many of us to fall in love again with teaching! January and February can be difficult months to remember the joy of home educating, but your enthusiasm and delight in excellent books and projects are enough to remind even the grumpiest mom-teachers why we love this job. I'll be looking forward to seeing your American Revolution unit study details!

Yes, yes, yes!! The homeschool blues of January seems to trip up even the most experienced homeschoolers. I believe (and you've gathered from my videos) in making homeschool as enjoyable as possible. Homeschooling can really be a joy for all. I would be so uninspired if I were doing things I didn't find interesting. The drudgery would zap the spirit out of the kids and me. So yes! Bring the love back to teaching and bring the love back to homeschooling. There are of course challenging times. And since there are, let's make as much as possible enjoyable and something to look forward to. I really appreciate your comment. Oh, and here's the playlist for the American Revolution unit ;) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXTVhnmJmblrd5I Enjoy!! -Hana

Great videos Hana! Ill definitely be saving this video for when we start colonial times. Those craft books look so fun. I think Elijah would love some of the crafts.

This review was so wonderful! We are working on a Colonial America unit right now, and it has been so helpful to get your thoughts on the books that you used. My kids really enjoy the "You Wouldn't Want to Be..." series, too!

Thank you! Seeing as there are so many good books out there that are well written and beautifully illustrated, it seems a waste to read boring dry books. How's your school year going? -Hana

So much good stuff. We're doing Early American history next year and I've already been looking for books, activities, etc. So this is great.

Oh nice! Then you might like this video. Not sure if you are doing the first explorers. I haven't released it yet, but it's on Columbus. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqvWfY1no7KFhNU We have a unit on the Native Americans, but it's not coming together as easily as I thought. It seems like it should run parallel to all the American units I have. What have you done (or plan to do)? -Hana

I love seeing what you guys used and didn't use and what you thought about all the great resources you get. :) I agree with enhancing the story and not making it dry history. I LOVE that style of writing! I got to go to the mayflower II and where they have Plymouth plantation and the Wampanog village set up and reinacters in high school. We actually went straight up the east coast all through the different historical places for our US history and American Literature. It was great fun. I made a scrap book of it for our end of trip project, and I'm so glad to have it. Plymouth plantation is the earliest setting in the book, so when we get to the Mayflower, I look forward to starting to pull that out and share it and talk about it with Samuel. :) We are really hoping that sometime in 2-4 years we can do a year-long RV U.S. history road trip - how cool would that be?
@PepperandPine8 жыл бұрын
That's so awesome that you got to see the Mayflower 2!! What an amazing experience. Being on the west coast there aren't many historical sites to see. That's really great you got to drive up the east coast before moving. An RV trip would be so educational. We briefly considered something similar, but it didn't work out for us and now the kids are too old for us to take them (university and community college). So if you can go, GO!! Even if you don't learn about it all while you're out on the road, when you settle back down, you'll have so much to refer to. -Hana

Yes! So true! I'm hoping we can pull it off! The kids are a bit young right now, but in a bit, they will be PERFECT ages for it! AND, it would certainly be fun to document it via KZbin! :D

Per usual. Super awesome video and in depth on these books. I love Betsy's books. We will be using them next year as a part of our early US to civil war history study. Never too old for her books LOL. We actually stood on the dock next to the Mayflower 2 some years ago. They wanted too much to go on board if my memory serves me. Maybe we could go on but still. Was neat to get a visual of how smallish that ship was. Oh dear- those people had to be squashed in like sardines. Yikes. We have most of Ms. Foster's books. I think Cap'n John Smith is the only one I don't own. I just cherry pick the chapters that match our current person we are covering. It's easier. Thanks again for some great book ideas! Really helps with planning.forgot to add: love your son's book! Super nice job.

What a good idea to cherry pick the pages of Foster's book. I'm thoroughly enjoying it (we're still on Captain John Smith). My son almost finished William Penn on his own. Betsy Maestro's books are also phenomenal. I can't believe I almost missed them. How awesome that you got to see the Mayflower 2! I have a new found appreciation for not just the pilgrims aboard the Mayflower but anyone who ever had to migrate under duress. The human spirit amazes me! -Hana

i just love watching these videos. So inspiring. This and the Revolutionary War era are my absolute favorites. Have you shown your older boys The Last of the Mohicans? I love that movie for these time periods (the book of course is brilliant).

Oh I hope you like it like we like ours. It's very dense though, so as we really got into the book it took an extra level of concentration to keep all the info straight. But as far as history books are concerned, I rank this one high :) -Hana

Where did you find the book at the end where he summarized and incorporated his own drawings?

I got them from A Child's Dream and Waldorf Supplies. They are main lesson books and they come in different sizes and configurations. Some are completely blank and others are blank with lined paper. achildsdream.com/main-lesson-or-drawing-book-medium-wide
