Yeah, great video, thanks. Been really struggling with these. Good players make them look so easy.

I like how your vids catch the nuances of teaching any technique from the player's perspective

Glad I found this video. I started getting my way by using the thumb to strum all but the last string, knew something was off but couldn’t see clearly in the other video has it was quite fast. A bit disappointed it will require much more work to get that technique going aha. Let’s see in a couple months how it goes. Now I think I need to look for some of your arpeggios lesson to get proper finger control to one day do these rolled chord. Hopefully that will not lead me to another lesson before I can start working on this! It sounds amazing, thanks for the awesome video

Posted with perfect timing. Working on some baroque and romantic pieces with rolled chords as an ornamentation. Thanks! Excellent teaching as always!

@@Thisisclassicalguitar El Noi de la Mare commonly has rolled chords in quite a few spots. My teacher gave me suggested spots to use them and your video helped me think more critically where I put them. Also, I’ve transcribed Grave by Santiago de Murcia, on a baroque guitar. Baroque guitar has lots of rolled chords in places for effect because of how it sounds with the five courses.

Careful on Baroque guitar music to not confuse the rolls with strums which are quite different. The original tablatures for Murcia often have down and up strum patterns which are specific effects.

I just started practicing rolled chords, this is perfect. They sound really nice at the start of the second half of Greensleeves

Yeah, I thought we were rolling joints and then playing classical music.

You're very excellent and generous with your lessons and tips. Can you use rasgueado to play rolled chords and how does one play rolled chord in a down stroke like in measure 9 of lagrima?
@Thisisclassicalguitar Жыл бұрын
Rasgueado has a very specific sound to it so you'll just want to be careful about when you use it to make sure it matches the style of music. Lagrima measure 9 is only three or four notes int he chord so you can just roll it similar to an arpeggio.

I'm beginning to understand the importance of rolled chords. But how do I speed it up? I can't get that 'strumming' speed I've seen players have. Is a rolled chord simply a very fast arpeggio?

When we offset a full guitar chord, we call it “rolling” the chord... maybe you could try to explain just what that really means... Just what is the right hand string attack in this case? How do I create a beautiful sounding rolled chord? Please explain the attack and thinking. We can decide for yourselves when they work or not. Thanks.

Not heard of this term is it the same as 'arpeggiated' chords? What is this piece? Sounds a bit like a theme used in a Bond film??
@clarettheband3 жыл бұрын
I use this technique a lot.
@Thisisclassicalguitar3 жыл бұрын
It's not exactly the same as an arpeggiated chord, I guess it's more a question of the gesture and effect.

I’ve seen many people roll too much and messed up the timing duration for notes.
@Thisisclassicalguitar4 жыл бұрын
Ya, it's pretty common.

Not related to the vid But I just cut my nails and now i feel like my finger is shorter And it feels really weird to play guitar

I almost always roll my chords. I think it sounds better.
@Thisisclassicalguitar4 жыл бұрын
As long as it doesn't disrupt the rhythm or distract from the phrasing that should be fine.
