My son is 29 he started welding at 16 He does military, microscopic, and generally any other type of welding. He spent $0 on education (they paid him; even to take the military certs) He has never needed a loan and owns his home, cars, truck, motorcycle, and RV outright. This year he will be opening his own shop doing work for medical and our military. Life is hard, but by paying his dues from 16-20 he had an incredible headstart on these children that are graduating at 21 with 150k in debt and limited job prospects.

Buried in the video message could be that employers need to invest in "basic training" to attract and keep talent - but that costs money, and if new talent will leave at the drop of a hat, training will need to come from elsewhere. Models already exist for this, such a specialized schools, unions (hmmm), and just low-level entry jobs that teach (knowingly or unknowingly) people skills, timeliness, and hopefully advancement opportunities if available, yet we (USA) are continuing to ignore these fundamentals. Thanks Mike, for placing the spotlight on this and other related areas.

More people need to start at the bottom. They will earn their respect and learn work ethic.

I honestly wish Mike Rowe would run for president on the non-party ticket. Just let people judge a man by the content of his character.
@farmerbill68552 жыл бұрын
Why? Because you like him? He has zero desire or experience, he just explained you need to start at the bottom to be successful at anything. Treating the presidency like a popularity contest is why we're in the crapper now.

You can tell a lot about a man by the hat he wears. Taylor looks like he's put in some hard work by the sweat ring on his hat!

Hi Mike. I've been a die-hard fan for a very long time. I used to live on Mackinac Island. I was there when you came to the island and I was just wondering how your memory is, considering all the places you've been and people you've met. When you and your crew first got on the island and you were filming road apples early in the morning, my girlfriend and I came down to open the Irish Pub. I walked out to the street to meet you and your crew. You were every bit the gentleman I was hoping you would be. I'm just curious as to how much you remember of all the places you've been. Because we certainly remember you. (Btw... My girlfriend actually made it into the opening of the episode, even though I didn't. Lol)

When someone would show up on one of my jobs fresh out of school with their certificate, I would tell them that now you know enough to start "learning on the job". To me and the way I would train a new hand was that we all knew the same language but now it's time to learn how to do the job...

Starting at the bottom, you learn in practice how a company works, so when you hit a spot where you can make changes in the company. You'll know what will really help vs a theory that is taught. Life is not one size fits all. In fact that's the reason our prison are full of weed dealers , mandatory sentences weren't too be tough on crime, it was too keep inmate numbers high, being the only country that has a prison for profit system. Look back at the senator's and congressman that pushed for it. Offs are themselves or someone close had recently purchased a bunch of stock in the companies running out prisons. Sorry got way off track
