Greetings from Canada. As you folks down there head into your holiday weekend, I just want to say how thankful I am for YOU. My husband and I watch your videos even though we have no intention of ever giving up our sticks and bricks - we're weekend warriors. I love how honest and real you are and that when you make a mistake, you have the integrity to own up to it. That says a whole lot in today's world. Please know that I appreciate what you are doing and the challenge it can be to put your life online as you have done. I have nothing but admiration and respect for you and you will remain in my daily prayers. All the very best of the season to you!

LOL..... Travel Fatigue..... it's real! Hubby and I love to travel, once when we were headed to Minnesota we just plowed right through.... he is a truck driving maniac. I finally got really cranky and he yelled at me "What's wrong with you?" LOL.... I screamed back "I have to stop moving!" He just looked at me with this shocked/perplexed look on his face. He found the nearest campground, pitched the tent, (those were our tenting days), made the bed, fed me and I slept for 10 hours. After 2 nights I was ready to hit the road again. So I totally get the travel fatigue thing. Now we travel at a much slower pace and don't put too much on the agenda. Love the video. I've been watching all year and have seen the growth you have had. I especially appreciate that you are able to admit YOUR mistakes and keep it real. Have a wonderful Turkey day as there is sooooooo much to be thankful for......

Thank you guys so much. I took that whole year journey with you because it was about a year ago that I decided I wanted to go full time and started to save and downsize. I learned so much from you John being so patient teaching about the RV and Mercedes a lot of the things you taught about inside the RV also help me get organized. Above all else, I appreciate your honesty and integrity and your desire to help others along the way. I made the leap on November 3rd after by my 1st RV on September 20th . Talked my job into full time remote work that should at least last for another 6 months. I made it from the East Coast to Palm Springs in 2 weeks stopping in Livingston Texas to get my domicile. Spending the holidays with families and in the next month working on a plan for the next 6 months to one year . One of the best things I think you taught me was this life will be different. It will be wonderful but it may not always be easy and sometimes it may not even feel wonderful. Thank you so much. I look forward to your next year on the road and hope to meet you down the road.

Hope our paths cross. You have no idea how much you've helped us tonight! Thank you!

Hi guys! Congrats on 1 year. We couldn't agree more with finding a work/life balance and making sure you have an income before diving into RV life. We have a unique situation where we started RV life to be together. We travel for my hubby's job and follow hail storms. His long hours make it hard to balance being on the road. We are actually heading back to put down roots and will only RV part time. But we made it 16 months and are thankful for this experience.
@RVOddCouple5 жыл бұрын
This is unique. Given hubby's job it sounds like a creative way to keep the family unit together. But I feel like RVing is more expensive than people would think. You bring up a good point about his hours. Working insane hours and then driving to the next storm is like having 2 demanding jobs. I think that's another thing people don't realize. RVing is a job in and of itself. Without having checked out your channel, I feel like you could make a video explaining some of this for others. You have a unique experience and perspective that few others understand. Happy Thanksgiving🦃 Thank you

Hard for me to believe it's been a year. Your learning curve was a lot steeper than mine, but I was never a full timer . After 40+ years of RV-n & owning my own biz i can relate to just about everything you said. We could not be gone more than 2-4 days at a time. We are now taking extended trips and last year learned one of your points; too much moving & driving is exhausting. Its really nice to set up and stay a whole week+ at a spot & then move on vs 400-500 miles every day & not having to worry about work. Best to y'all in your Sophomore year.

1) Higher elevation also has lower oxygen levels. Exercise can be more difficult. In some cases it can lead to “altitude sickness”.I experienced that once on one of my many hikes to the top of Mount San Gorgonio (11.500 ft). I had failed to get to the base camp a couple days before that hike. Elevation also requires longer cooking times 2)Filters require replacement. I use distillers. Those remove all the minerals, kill bacteria and remove volatile chemicals from the water. This makes the water safe to add to lead acid batteries, auto/truck radiators and keeps me from having to descale the Keurig. That said I also have designed a 4 stage filter system that has 30/10/5/1 micron filters. Several also have activated charcoal that removes many chemicals before it gets into your water system. 1 micron also prevents any cysts of parasites from entering your system. 3) I learned years ago about long drives. My father only planned 300 mile drives with shortstops added. Since I have Passport America, I can stay for half price at many campgrounds as you know. As you know TT lets you stay 21 days so your plan is golden IF you travel the edges of the country. Slower speeds yields better fuel mileage (I have a diesel truck). Have you serviced your hot water heater? If you have a Suburban water heater there is an anode rod tht needs replacing periodically. It is used to ‘sacrifice’ itself to slow/prevent erosion inside the tank. Sea going boats have similar rods to protect metal parts that are in the salt water.
@RVOddCouple5 жыл бұрын
Always great info Jay! We copied and pasted for a future video. We have not serviced the water heater yet but will reach out if we have questions. Thank you as always for everything in 2019. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 Thank you💚

Number 2 research, omg did we ever have to learn it the hard way. At first some weekend trips. It worked very well in our 18 ft Rig, then our first 1800 mile trip suddenly that thing was just a little cracker box. Not enough room for us, let alone our 4 month old Puppy. I would not trade the experience it was priceless but we paid the price for it. By the end we knew something had to give and soon. This time we weren't going to buy the first thing we saw. We reviewed lots of sites and did some research. We knew we weren't going to buy new so it made it harder. When we came across North Trail we liked what we saw, construction, interior, style and size. They also had a great resale value. This was important because this is our 5 year Rig. When LeAn walks away from work then the big boy comes along with the new truck. We found exactly what we wanted at a small dealer in West Iowa. Had to do some dealing they offered our rig and 4000 for theirs. We left with an extra 3500 in our pocket and the 2012 North Trail. A great 26 ft Mom and Dad trailer. It's just for us and it's perfect. I really wish I had not broken my ankle, would have stayed out longer. Next year is going to be really big we're planning now so looking forward to it. Find you and Mercedes was also a big help. The other thing water, oh yeah I'm looking into it now. Just amazing how it changes from Campground to Campground.

When she started to say something like, "we have a drinking..." I instantly heard "problem" in my head. You guys are great! Humor is the spice of life! The first year was like "a slow moving car accident"... cracked me up... next I thought you'd say "we're going to improve it so year two is a deliberately slow moving car accident, even slower!" One poster below already said after 30 years they are still learning. It takes humility to admit one doesn't know everything. Life teaches us so much if we're willing and wise enough to learn from it.

It amazes me when I see people connect their water hose and turn it on. You have no idea when that was used last and what bacteria grows in the absence of chlorine. So glad to see that you take water purity serious. Love the video and please keep them coming.

We too were "dashing" to the next destination, not considering what we passed on the way. This year, we set a maximum 5 hour drive time (many less) and that added a lot to "the journey". This added a lot to our temporary RV life. Can't wait to see you in 2020! Garry & Dar Roving RVers

Thank you for your honesty. That's what I love about your videos. I have to agree you pushed yourselves to hard. You may have enjoyed it but you didnt take the time to really enjoy the ride. There is a lot to see in our country but you have to slow down to see it. My pledge to myself when I go back out is to stay off the interstate as much as possible. Back roads is where AMERICA is. What I tell folks and friends starting out , go rent an RV to find one you like then buy one. There are lots of RV's like the Class A ,B ,C Super C , travel trailer (TT) , 5th Wheel. I had a 5th wheel and loved. On those rainy day you maybe stuck inside , those high ceiling on a 5th you don't feel so claustrophobic inside. If that makes sense. This isn't so much address to you but someone reading the comments. But that's why they make all this different RV's because there are lots of us , we are different. Likes and dislikes. Please slow down and enjoy life more and with your little one. That's not that you haven't. They grow up so fast as John knows. Take care , enjoy Florida.

Great video! We've been on the road for 3 weeks and these are lessons we've learned on our own "the hard way". Lol. It's an adjustment. Thank you for pointing out that's it's not all rainbows and butterflies when you're working on building your own business. Its hours on end staring at a screen until you get cabin fever. I just came to the conclusion last night that we traveled way too fast. Now I have to plan differently. I'm so glad you mentioned it. Looking forward to your teachable lessons videos 😊 Stay safe on the road!

Just wanted to say Thank You. I am also working on being free. I have a Skoolie I'm working on. I wanted to mention the outside lights that I am planning on buying. They are motion activated and also have an alarm. They have their own little built in solar panel and charge themselves. They can be permanently attached or attached by a magnet. Security is very important. And so is peace of mind. Also Thank you for giving God his glory. :)

If you ever stop learning, life is over! The trick is to know that you don’t know everything- ever- therefore you learn. Best to hope for is to be proactive then less is learned from mistakes... I love you guys! You really crack me up, and your are good different then the other full time channels I follow. Being that I have RV’d since childhood, I am now retired, I spend about 70% of of my time in my Class B Roadtrek, I really have little similarities with you folks, but I still want to hug you. Currently we are heading home for the holidays, this trip has been 8200 miles so far in 9 weeks. We hope to run across you somewhere.

Love you both. So glad I stumbled onto your channel, courtesy of YT's "you might like this... " Really had a good chuckle about your weather comments. Hubby is retired Meteorologist so he keeps tabs on that. & re wx changes, when we relo'd from ND to CA, our kids thought it would b warm like SoCal. But we're in NorCal just S of Bay Area. So chilly our kids wore their ND clothes, didn't even have to buy summer clothes🥶 We're PT at the moment but would like to go more FT as we get organized. Looking forward to your new schedule & hearing more about your travels & experiences. Thanks so much for all you share. Safe Travels & God Bless 🙏

Another great video, and as always, you filled it with useful information. I have been on the road full time for almost eight years, and I'm still learning things. You said you were going to stay in one place for three weeks next year. One thing you might want to consider is that you can stay in most campgrounds for a month for less than the price of three weeks. I always to try to stay in one place for at least, a month to get the monthly rate.
@RVOddCouple5 жыл бұрын
Great point Jerry💚 We will be sitting fairly still for the next 4 months. We gat a quarterly rate while we have Sage tested. Happy Thanksgiving to you & yours Jerry! 🦃 Thank you💚💚

Pulling that big a rig, 300 miles per day, max guys! Also, daytime travel. Break camp as much as possible the night before travel day. Then rise early, beat the lines at the dump station, and hit the road. Take a break for lunch and arrive at your stop or destination midday. Also, strategically time metro-area transits to avoid rush hours. Sending you a message, so please check your e-mail.

First, Happy Anniversary! Great video...as always! Life is understood backwards and lived forward! These are wise words. Yes, it has been a nutso years for you guys! Lots of change in a really short period of time. That many miles so quickly is really tough and stressful and takes literally days to recover from. There may still be some mistakes to make...lol! I now (as of today) have a 50 amp plug, and would love to have you visit the Goat Shed, but you already know that. Looking forward to a great year two for all of us! Take care guys! Happy Thanksgiving!

We decided on 300 miles or 3.5 hours most of the time for us. I think most people have to work those limits out for themselves by paying attention to how fatigued they are after a certain number of hours and a break. We also have a trailer so there’s set up involved and being tired when backing into a site and unhitching is a bad idea. Don’t ask me how I know LOL. Hope to catch y’all on the RV road of happy destiny! A great big virtual hug to you both!
@RVOddCouple5 жыл бұрын
You bring up a great point. 300 miles or 3.5 hours is reasonable and allows you to set up in the day. Setting up at night is horrible.

You’re absolutely correct about the weather. In September, we went to The Black Hills in SD. At the beginning of the week, we knew there was a tornado in Sioux Falls. We said, so what, we’re across the state. Well, coming home we didn’t realize until it was too late, that they had flooding that had never happened before... We got on many flooded out roads, including the main hwy. It took us 12 hours to get across SD. We have a class A motorhome with a-tow. We had to unhook twice. Very stressful! 😂 Elevation issues also affected the performance of our generator.
