I would almost say don't just flush the water on a brand new unit, I would also consider sanitizing it also. You don't know how long those pipes were laying around in various warehouses.

Our dealership suggests that new rvers “camp” in their parking lot (with hook ups) at least 1 night so they can help and answer questions before the RV even leaves the lot. That was so helpful to us. We loved this about NIRVC. LOVE your channel. Ronda Lawhead

When running water for the first time, remove the aerator on all faucets. There is more that a good chance there is some debris in the water lines and you don't want that getting caught up in that screen.

I am in Melbourne, FL and our first RV trip in my old travel trailer was to Ft. Wilderness in Disney World. About 12-13 years ago I got sick while camping. It wasn't a "praying to the porcelain goddess" type sickness, just a nasty bug that made me dizzy and lacking in energy. I had a water filter on my kitchen sink, but it didn't filter out whatever stuff (bacteria) was in my water tank. I haven't drank water out ANY RV fresh water tank since.
@RVOddCouple4 жыл бұрын
Yikes! Your aversion to water from an RV tank is reminding me of my aversion to eggs. Before getting sick, I loved eggs. Now I don't trust them. :-) . It's no fun being sick- especially while traveling.

Haha. I wish I had known this a few years ago. I purchased an RV in Indianola Indiana and traveled from NM to get it on a 3 day weekend. 🤣🤣🤣 it was a horrible trip. 25 degrees in Kansas over night and to top it off 60mph winds. My first time ever towing a trailer. OMG I was so scared!!!! Thank goodness for the camp host in Kansas he felt pitty and helped us figure things out. What an adventure. Never forget.

We are not full time but also bought a new rig 2 years after our first from same mfgr. Looking forward to seeing yours. We added 6 feet (20 ft to 26) and a slide. It does take time to decide where everything goes. We hope to get lots of time in it this summer.

Love your new rig! Does Mercedes know how to unhook and drive the rig? Reason I ask is because many years ago, my mom and dad were out in their rig when my dad had a life threatening medical emergency that landed him in ICU for days and he was unable to unhook and drive home after getting out of the hospital and they had to leave. It was trial by fire for my poor mom and she white knuckled it all the way home so he could see his regular physician to follow up on his condition. A bit of practice just in case of an emergency would be a good preparation just in case!

Great info. I’m 52 and camped as long as I can remember, been through numerous tents, two pop-ups and just bought a TT. Been with my bride for 30+ years an one constant thing we wanted to do was full time and now we’re ready. So glad we camped near the dealer where we got our TT, I’ll bet we called the tec that did our walk-thru a dozen times that first week, (really great guy!!). Soooo glad you’re back to normal, Mercedes! I’ve had food poisoning four times in my life, and it is NOT fun! Being a former school cafeteria manager, I had to take the Serve Safe course, so I learned throw-out chicken after two full days in the frig, and beef three days. Bacteria grows quickly! My tummy started hurting when I saw you poor thing! You are so right, each and every rig is different, even if it’s the same manufacturer and only a couple years apart in age. Take is slow and easy with a new rig. Piper is GORGEOUS! Mercedes, your kitchen is huge and beautiful...it would definitely spark my old love of cooking working in that kitchen. Great vid guys. John I noticed you hooked up the stinky slinky to the campground hookup first. That means all that aroma from the sewer is venting to the end of the hose you are holding. You are absolutely correct on mistakes made during a move. Specially, when you are use to doing things your way by yourself, then you have someone that maybe traveling with you, help you. It throws you away from your routine. So if I may, as a retired Air Force aircrew member I'm use to using "CHECKLIST" just as I had to use flying. It's there to look at when you think you've done it all. Put in section one for setup and one for teardown and sub section water, sewer, power , chokes what ever you decide to help you make sure it's all done . I've seen RV'ers going down the road and there power cord following them. Not good. You can get them online " AIRCREW CHECKLIST" binders . I think I paid $13.00 for it. It just to help you and your mate to help each other. Inside and out of your RV. Sorry as always I make my comments long. I'm glad you're all safe back home in your new RV and you're well. Don

Oh 3rd rv, we had experience in what to look for. Anyway our solitude 373 res has ton's of storage. But still first one out we botched a few things. RV Odd Couple I still haven’t completely ruled it out. I was wanting to do it to save money since Social Security just doesn’t go far. But I have just started thinking maybe a lot smaller than what I first hoped for. Maybe a 30 foot class A, or maybe a Class B or C. I also called the KOA park in this area and they said it would cost $460 a month plus some kind of a utility deposit to stay there. I could just about rent a one bedroom apartment for that.The main reason I wanted to go to a travel trailer situation was to save money, and that doesn’t look promising. The only traveling that I had considered doing was possibly to the 30A area by Panama City Beach, once or twice a year, with my 10 year old Grandson. But it sounds like it’s even expensive to park it somewhere.😔

Great video John and Mercedes. Food poisoning is no fun and can literally kill you, 7 up is a great remedy for stomach ailments, for one reason or another, citric acid based juices, pop cicles etc .. soothes. Congratulations on your new rig, don't forget to review the tires the manufacture selected for it👍. Kind regards, Eric Dee

Hi Eric, Yes, it was horrible. The dehydration and the exhaustion it brought about was the worst. I literally struggled to walk. So grateful we had the pedialyte popsicles. Funny thing though, Sage saw me eating her popsicles and wanted some. So I shared. lol

A very informative video. I know you don't like to boondock in Walmart parking lots, but when I'm stopping for just one night, I like the ease of pulling in, not having to disconnect my dolly, and then hitting the road the next morning. By the way, I think food poisoning is worse than the flu (I don't want either one).
@RVOddCouple4 жыл бұрын
Jerry, We completely agree. Food poisoning is so much worse. You know it's funny. We considered boondocking but we were also rushing to get home for Sage's doc appointment. But we were so close. Luckily Sage's pedialyte popsicles saved the day.

hi guys, here's a tip for those of you who end up driving in mountainous terrain... i wrote this originally to your friend Liz Amazing but gave it an edit for your comment section but some this can be applied to your driving conditions as well... some the mistakes Liz lists up aren't really that tragic in sum total. just looking at the pictures of the wreck here's what i think her biggest mistake was: the truck she used to pull the camper was a bit undersized as she already mentioned. it's not that the truck didn't have the power or oomph to pull it, it lacked the mass that an older camper needs to maintain proper tracking on the highway. . ..i know i'm gonna catch a lot of guff from other viewers who are toyota enthusiasts but that's just the way it goes. the stance of her old pickup was almost too narrow for that camper. the axle width on the camper and the trailer should be as similar as possible. this is particularly important in deep snow driving. i spent many a year in north idaho pulling my camper in deep snow, sometimes with my pickup, sometimes with my farm truck. as the truck breaks trail in the deep snow the trailer has a tendency to follow in the fresh track. as paradox as this may sound, it works in a similar fashion on dry or even wet roads. here's the most important thing: when driving in mountainous terrain, *ALWAYS* go *down* the hill in the *SAME* gear you climbed it. the brakes on the trailer and truck alone cannot handle the mass. you have to have the help from the compression of the engine to keep your speed under control. a manual transmission is more advantageous in mountain driving than an automatic. there are some roads in idaho where automatics are not even allowed... also keep in mind that when you're pulling a pull camper (not a 5th wheel) you will have to drop your cruising speed by at least 10mph. in some cases even more, such as in windy conditions. now here the old saying goes: *there's no replacement for displacement* ... while her tundra had a powerful engine, it lacked the displacement needed to create the resistance when coming down a hill on compression. the old farm truck i used to have (a 1964 international harvester loadstar) had a 302cid v-8 in it, and it was always adventurous to say the least keeping that thing under control descending a hill on compression. my pickup on the other hand has a 400cid v-8 with an RV cam and it handles a load on compression much better although again the same rule of mountain driving applies...in short: high horsepower, small displacement engines will pull the load but they have a harder time slowing it down. being able to stop is your most important aspect of pulling any kind of load... good luck and happy trails to you and don't let the pitfalls in life keep you from pursuing your goals! cheers! mike

RV Odd Couple I was gonna bust your chops, John, but I thought you might need therapy and figured you probably left your security power tool back in Florida during your trip. In between that and you having to listen to Mercedes’ touchy-feely cd’s on the trip, I figured I would show some mercy! All is good in the hood, my brother!

Seven hundred pounds heavier isn't the big deal; what is, is the pin weight and it sounds like you may have a LOT MORE weight on you pin than you did in the earlier version of Sandy. All of the points you made were great points... Hope people are paying attention. Thanks guys. Safe travels! Edited to add: I don't know if I agree with not disconnecting. The ONLY time I won't disconnect is if I'm not using the levelers (jack system). I ALWAYS disconnect if I'm using the "auto level" function because many/most of those systems lift the front of the RV all the way up before lowering to the proper level - and the last thing you want is your front jacks trying to lift both the trailer AND the truck up into the air. (Actually, I think they try to lower the front fully. I'm not sure. But auto level and staying connected to the tow vehicle are never a good idea.)
@RVOddCouple4 жыл бұрын
You are correct Michael, mostly pin weight. Truck is handling it well👍😀. In ever auto level when attached. I place the levling system in manual and just take the weight off the truck. Works great. If the site is really unleveled, I detach. Thank you
