I really enjoyed seeing someone that likes to sled like me. I surprised my nephews last year by joining them sledding on a small hill by our creek. I may be 65, be am still young inside. This year the snow fell heavy everywhere around us, but only gave us 2”. And that had the odacity to fall at night, so I couldn’t enjoy watching the snowflakes fall. I am still hoping for a nice day of snow before spring arrives. I am excited to see your plans for your new garden. My sister and I are putting in a “community” garden here this year. We will be using 1/2 wine barrels instead of bed (my niece who owns this property runs a winery). We will need to put up a fence because the elk like to visit. It will be fun gardening with you this year.

Hey Kaye, good choice to keep the birds away from the windows by putting up more hanging bird feeders and no more on the porch. But please be aware that there lots of birds that only eat from the ground. You can put some feed on multiple spots on the ground every time (below the hanging feeders perhaps), so if there is stuff growing later on, you know you can pull it and the ground feeding birds also do have more than one place to eat and have to fight less for the same feeding spot.

Thanks for the tips! I started doing that. Though I hear TONS of birds singing, they haven't been back as interested in seeds since the big snow.

I didn’t worry too much about the ice and snow... got caught without much groceries, but baked bread and cooked dried beans and stayed inside, painting and working remotely, and just nestled in for the week until it melted. We get snow and ice like this here in Tennessee every few years, and thanks to the pandemic, for once, I didn’t have to get out into the weather.

Didn’t want to be a Debbie downer but when I saw that tray of birdseed on your porch all I thought was not only are you drawing pretty birds but also field mice. And when it’s cold mice come to find food and warmth - inside your basement, garage and attics. I lived in the mountains of N.J. For 30 years, just talking from experience. Even when your careful you will get the occasional field mouse moving in come fall and winter. Living in the country!😊

Great video..........made me have some giggles and loved it when you broke into laughter on the cardboard trying to slide one last time before the snow melted. LOL The snow gets to a point it gets to wet to go and it saturates the cardboard then you are having fun but not going much of anywhere. I grew up in So Dak and so we had tons of snow and hills in town and we would sled for hours ........freeze our toes but little kids don't mind that ......HA HA Now it's a different story. You seemed to enjoy the snow and it is beautiful and wonderful but yes, lots to think of especially out there alone in the new homestead. You'll giggle in a couple years down the road and think back on these beginning days. It's all in what you are used to and always something to be learned. Love your new place......a work in progress and it always will be but that is a good thing as we learn everyday as you well know. Age can be a good thing, I just wished I would write down all these things to share with the grandchildren about my experiences of living in the country after growing up in the city. Good job on your fire wood ......... yes the seasoned wood will burn better, get more heat from it and the creosote from the wetter wood won't build up in your chimney. Better, if you can, to use the dryer wood. I am sure you have had tons of input on that. LOL We've been on our place now since 1974 and trust me we learned it all alone and it truly doesn't leave your mind once you have been through some of these things. LOL Enjoy your new adventures, I think it's marvelous.........I started watching you in Cal.....and your channel is always so much fun and so educational as well. Love you spirit and tenacity to get it all done and your independence, but be not afraid to reach out when in need. People love to share their knowledge especially to a new country liver! :-) God bless.........be well!

I give you an A+ for effort. Sledding...order a good sled now before the next snow storm. Cardboard is not a great sled, try your outside garbage can lid next time. Even if it is attached, they come off.
@Latebloomershow3 жыл бұрын
Well since there’s no trash pick up I don’t have an outside can and the inside can does not have a lid and believe me I really thought long and hard about what I had that I could sit on and couldn’t come up with anything but cardboard.

@@Latebloomershow Oh I forgot about that! You have to take your trash to the dump. RIght? I was thinking the other day, here in Atlanta we are due for a big storm any year now...need a good sled. Not one of those plastic circle things, but a traditional sled like I used in N.C.

The hardest part is missing the sunshine for me. I wanted to run out there and plant but, I knew the rain was coming. So..... Maybe you could bake a pie some muffins or some sweet bread and take it to your closest neighbor just to say... Hello, I'm your new neighbor"??? It's kind of like a reverse of "Welcome to the Neighborhood" offering. I'm a kind of keep to myself kinda person. So, it would be hard for me. But, you must push passed your comfort zone sometimes. March is often our biggest snowstorms in my zone 7. My feeder is hung in front of my kitchen window which is at the back of the house. I open the window to fill it each day and it's close enough to the window for them to see the glass and not crash into it. The mess stays out back on the ground. It's hung with a decorative plant hanger up above the window and a hook at the end of a chain. The feeder hangs on that hook.
@Latebloomershow3 жыл бұрын
One thing the previous owners did when they changed all the windows was they didn’t put windows that open for the most part they’re stationary so I couldn’t do that if I wanted to but that’s very convenient for you!

I think you would have enjoyed my toboggan better than that cardboard. Also, I wouldn't stack firewood indoors until right before heating season. You'll be bringing all sorts of insects into your garage and giving them all summer and fall to explore, lay eggs, find out what a 2x4 tastes like. Keep it outdoors under cover where air can dry it out.
