i kinda like the concept of a mud wizard, you have all these stupidly op wizards who just use overly complicated magic, and then you have the Mud wizard who just defeats them all with mud

Pretty sure he could also make quick sand. Mud aint nothing to fuck with it can immobilize entire armies and can win or lose battles and even wars. Tanks, logistics, heavily armored troops of all eras have been bogged down or unable to fight effectively from being in it and are easy prey to enemy ambush

For those who are interested in the background of the meme: The village of Lützerath was located in northern Germany directly next to one of the largest open coal (lignite, to be more precise) mines in Europe. After the original residents left their homes either willingly or after long legal battles, environmental activists had been occupying the village for around 2 years. The German government, together with the local state government and the operating energy company RWE agreed on a compromise in October 2022, that on one hand included the end of coal mining in the area until 2030, the continued existance of 5 villages, but on the other included the destruction of Lützerath, the expansion of the coal mine, the increase of annual mining to around 30 million tons of coal, and the extraction of a total of 280 million cubic metres of coal until then. Environmental activists have since critizised the compromise as too weak: They demand the protection of Lützerath, a faster end of coal extraction, and argue that burning the 280 million cubic metres exceeds the national goals of the Paris Agreement for 1,5°C global warming by up to four times. Listed no. 96 of individual carbon emission producers worldwide, they demand that the mine and attached coal power plant be shut down as soon as possible. They also cite several scientific studies that state that the coal is not needed to balance the current energy crisis in Germany. In January, police forced from all over Germany were rallied to evict all activists from the village. A fence was raised around the village, and guarded 24/7, while activists were slowly removed from treehouses, shacks, and buildings on the inside. Three days into - and several smaller protests and attempts to blockade, slow, and stop the eviction later - around 35.000 people gathered outside the village to protest against the "Coal Compromise" and the eviction itself. Protesters soon started moving towards the fenced village and a legal "ban zone" that was created around it, until they were brutally pushed back by around 3000 police officers. The "mud wizard" scene took place in one of the fields around Lützerath during this afternoon. The fence and the village can be seen in the background. In the end, several hundred civilians and around 100 members of the police were injured. Activists did not manage to cross the fence, the village was successfully cleared two days after, and has since been completely destroyed. The events around Lützerath have sparked a heated debate about police brutality, a supposed radicalization of the climate justice movement, and has sparked criticism over the German government's climate policies. I would actually support to protests if it wasn’t for 2 things: The villagers were compensated very well for their homes, which were about a dozen overall. Only one guy stayed longer but he eventually relented. 2. the same people protest against nuclear energy. We could have clean energy with almost no emissions decades ago, but people of that kind were and are spooked by the scary nuclear power. It’s certainly better than blocking streets and airports or throwing soup on artwork. I give them that. Overall I’m neutral of this situation and the meme is very funny.

I think one factor to mention is that the violence was not one sided. While the majority of the activist decided to sit it out and force the police to carry them away (2 madlads even holed themselves up in a tunnel for a few more days), some more radical elements resorted to throwing molotovs towards the police Now, those are by far not the majority, but I think it's important to mention that the cause of the rising tension in the conflict wasn't one sided

@@milat9287 I think they can. I don't see a reason why they wouldn't. The sister of my grandmother is a nun and she always goes for walks in her city and also goes on vacation every year for a week to visit our grandmother and us. Some of the other nuns she knows also helped with some projects in Africa. I also heard of some monks that work as firefighters in their free time. I never heard of any rule that would make monks or nuns stay in their monastery and it honestly doesn't make a lot of sense either. Maybe there are some monasteries that have rules like that, but that's most likely more an exception than a rule.

Never studied it, just heard it was so, and never seen a monk outside a monastery, so figured it probably just works like that without really knowing the specifics.

@@milat9287 I think the reason why you don't see them is more because those are mostly people who don't like to be in places with a lot of people in public. Most of the time they just go for a walk where there's not much risk of meeting a lot of people. And they also often stay at least close to the monestary. So if you don't have one near you that could also be a reason. The rules are also getting a lot less strict as far as my grandmothers sister told me. A lot of the younger nuns in her monestary don't wear their normal nun clothing for certain hobbies they have because it would be too impractical. And when they don't have time to change they just run around half of their day in normal clothing and you could never tell that she's a nun. There are really a lot of reasons why you don't see them. And then there's also the fact that there are less monks and nuns every year. There are really a lot of reasons why you probably don't see them. But I'm pretty certain that it's not because they are held hostage in their monestary.

To clarify, most protesters aren't really there to protect the town, but to more broadly prevent the destruction of the surrounding countryside by the excavators, and the pollution that would result from the excavated coal being burned. The town mostly just presents a well defendable position and landmark to rally around.

You know there not just gonna burn the coal on site right? German coal is typically of a high quality and it likely being sold overseas for it high burn temp and relatively (compared to other coals) clean fumes. Thus you need to use less to get the same results meaning less far less fumes in total. If I had to hazard a guess at to where the coal is going. Either in country due to oil shortages, or china who is the world largest user of coal by orders of magnitude.

@@polish_boi3108 The main argument supporting the excavation was the need for energy in Germany, which has been dissproven but was still used as a political argument. China still might be the largest user by magnitude, but not per capita, and also seems to invest in renewables in a way greater magnitude than european countries, especially Germany. Also, very unfun fact, the same state where Lützerath was has rules prohibiting to build windmills in a 10 km radius around any human settlement, effectivly making it impossible to build renewables.

@@polish_boi3108 That is unbelievably untrue. What they are excavating there is "Braunkohle" (brown-coal) known as lignite. It's the worst quality of coal because it sits so close to the surface (which is why entire countrysides are just stripped away to get to it) and is conversley also extremely unclean (literally the uncleanest energy source used by mankind). Due to the low quality, it's also barely worth shipping anywhere, which is why 90% of it is burnt domestically.

I'm glad the Mud Wizard gives this topic some attention: The Protest in Lützerath was one of the last before the police cleared the protesters from the village, in the name of the private energy company RWE. When they will dig out and use the coal under Lützerath it will be impossible for germany to hold the 1.5° Goal. Also this coal mine is already the single biggest poluter in whole europe. So if the mining won't be stop something else will continue to spread from there to the world: the climate crisis.
