I have the exact same one, and love it. Had it for many years and it’s definitely stood the test of time and abuse I’ve put it through.

I love wool...I've had one of these boreal shirts for 10 plus years. One of my favorite ways to layer these is to wear a thin down jacket or synthetic woobie hoodie underneath it.

Good to know it holds up well. I have had my eye on one for a little while now and finally ordered it 2 days ago. Was $350ish with shipping.

In 2015 I bought an Adidas Climawarm hoodie. Eight years later, it is still the warmest garment I own short of my parka. It was like $60. Not at all tactical or outdoorsy, but it’s been bombproof throughout a lot of outdoors activities , drunken antics, and wear in automotive supplier plants. Buy good stuff.

I forwarded this to the owner of Lester River Bushcraft. I love his gear and I think he’ll appreciate your review. Thank you for all the info you put out. Just found your channel. I’ve been enjoying it.

I have had mine for more than 10 years. It’s still going strong. It’s been up and down the mountains during my yearly two week bear hunts. This is really tuff.

I live near Duluth where they are made and know a few people that use them and have nothing but good to say about them. Many dog sled guys like them also I know. Kinda wish I went with them over my Filson jacket but the wool with waxed canvas outer is a hard combo to beat and has stood the test for 4+ years now for me. Used it in the Mountains of Montana last winter and all the time here in MN, nice with all this rain we been getting…

You should look at Weather Wool's anorak. It does shed water due to the orientation of the knit in the fab pic. The button system is superior. Their anorak has more pockets as well. Due to the ramboullet merino, it costs more, but very superior material.

I looked into them last year. It looks pretty good, but unfortunately, for almost $700, that is a stretch for realistically 95% of consumers.

They are dear - took me three years to get over the price. Four things - #1 - our sense of what is "expensive" never keeps up with inflation. #2 - I tried them out via the lending library before I bought, and then when I bought, most of them came with the lending library discount, so they were less expensive. #3 - what is the value of not becoming a cold weather casualty after SHTF and being able to effectively work out in the cold long term? Is it worth the value of an AR-15? How much do the knives you get each year cost? Would not becoming a cold weather casualty be worth 2-3 of those? That is what Ralph charges. #4 - I paid in precious metals, vs. eroding value fiat currency. Crye combat pants cost what now? $300/pair? You need to get a full weight anorak from the lending library and use it in the field. Also, just because 95% of people aren't experienced enough to buy the Weather Wool doesn't mean it is not worth the money. If you have not field tested them, you don't have a solid position from which to dismiss them as "too expensive". I hope you will try them out for yourself.

I don't doubt that it's a good product. but realistically, I dont see a need. Why would I spend $700 on a product that I already own? The Lester River bushcraft anorak has been great for 5 years. If a $280 all wool anorak is getting me through-60 temps (weather wool is recommended use to 10°F) why spend the money on something that is twice as expensive but realistically does the same thing? Sure, you get extra pockets, slight water resistance, and buttons.. to me, those are not worth a $350 upgrade. Again, it's probably a great product it's just not necessary for me or most folks to spend $700+ shipping and tax. Also, Crye combat pants might be $300 a pair, but they are definitely not worth it. The knees and croch seems are inferior to other cheaper designs.

It costs $30 to get an anorak from the lending library and you have not worn one yourself - yet you dismiss it as unnecessary - No one can teach a closed mind. @@PreparedAirman

I'm not saying it's not a good product. it's just too expensive for my budget, considering I already own a wool anorak. It doesn't make sense to buy another one for double the price.

I have a similar garment, the New Zealand Swanndri bushshirt. All the same qualities and I've owned it for 30 years now. The only draw back is that it is not windproof.

You peaked my interest in the wool anorak. I own a lot of wool already but not an anorak. However the price is not something that I can afford. Having said that though I found a company called Arcturus that makes one and sells for 160$. Are you familiar with their products and if so what about the quality. They even list the weight of the anorak on their site. Would love to know from someone how it compares

I convinced the wife of getting one for Christmas a month ago, its currently under the tree, and they're up to $335 dollars now. Aside from the price, one thing that I suspect has changed is the wool they are making them out of. I think in the past I heard they used USGI wool blankets to make them. I've slept under those many times, and the wool this anarok is made of does not remind me of ANY wool blanket I was ever issued or slept with. It's more like a heavy wool twill. It might actually be an improvement over a blanket material, though that remains to be seen. I've had my eye on one for a few years, and finally just bite the bullet and bought it. I figure if i don't get one now, i probably never will. With that steep price though, the only thing that really justifies the expense is that I'm out in the mountains a lot, and it will likely be the only wool top/blouse/shirt/jacket/whatever I'll ever buy the rest of my life. I'll probably get use out of it during late season elk hunts, or during the deep freeze winter months when I'll be in wool pants anyway.
