For a nerd, he's quite the athletic one : he can do multiple chin up and even pull his whole body to climb ledges, kick crabs so hard they make a 3feet jump, kick turtles so hard they go back in their shell, push gigantic rocks, make decent running jumps

I love how Lester's death animation actually does look like someone collapsing to the floor and dying. The game over screen should just be that last sprite of his corpse, being pecked at by a seagull or nibbled by a crab. Poor scamp never stood a chance really, did he?

I like to believe that every game every made is a storyline of a fictional character in an alternate world whose success is dependent on the number of people who have played and beaten their game. These games finish almost always the same way, but never through the same journey, hence alternate timelines of different mistakes, different power ups, and different decisions made by the players that forged these alternate timelines. Lester the Unlikely, in this case, is the story of a teenager who fell asleep on some cargo like a dumbass, got shipwrecked, and swam to an island with the goal of finding his way back home, but no one ever bought the game. No one ever beat his game. No one ever got past the first level. Lester never makes it off the island, his family never sees him again, and his death and disappearance doesn't even make it to media outlets, so no one ever knew who he was or what he did. Even in death, Lester would never know what it felt like to be known, or to succeed, and died knowing his failure, starved on the island because he could not feed or fend for himself against harmless turtles and asshole seagulls. Hello, and goodbye, Lester.

The gimmick of this game is that the character would get more confident and tougher as you progressed through the game. Of course when people play it to take the piss they only play the first couple of levels, so they misrepresent the game. I'm not saying this game is good, but it should at least be appreciated for attempting to be different.

Having never played this game, I was prepared to defend it - until the seagull showed up. HOWEVER! I first heard about this game on the AVGN episode, where I noticed someone commented about how the game isn't as bad as he makes it out to be. I decided to do some research, and I found out this game's biggest problem is its image. It handles like a side-scrolling action game, but it's more of an adventure game at heart. If they could have tightened up the bullshit parts of the gameplay, I think they could have had something really great! For instance, I read that Lester straightens up his posture and becomes more capable as the game progresses. By the end, he's found his confidence and is sword fighting against the pirates who sank his ship. He's tested by the island, and transitions into manhood through its trials. In the end, he's a new man, and hooks up with some islander chick. I really like the concept, and I'm not against the bold decision to blend adventure-style story and puzzle solving with Prince of Persia-esque sidescrolling - it just looks like that latter part really worked against it, and it doesn't help people's first impression of it when they go in expecting something more exciting.

I kinda wondered if he straightened up. Good to know. Reminds me of Tales of Symphonia 2 how the main character has the worst feeling controls early on but then he learns and has good heroic moves. Sorta the same for Tales of Xillia. Yeah I know they are newer games, but it's still a cool concept and its great to see it was used way back then.

I won't say that Danny and Arin "can't recognize how awesome this game is bla bla bla unsubscribe", like some people do. (That was sarcasm, I just don't know how to format in a youtube-comment, like the last guy :P ). I mean, I can understand how most people think it's a shitty game, but it DOES get progressively a lot better actually. The more you advance in the game, Lester changes, he has a different ( i.e. faster, more upright) walk cycle, you can do more stuff,etc. It's a bit like an rpg, you start a shitty, weak, asthmatic nerd and gradually advance to become a hero, because Lester trains, becomes fitter, etc. And that makes the game actually kind of... good. And there's weapons like Boomerangs and stuff. I know, it's not great for an SNES-era game to have a mechanic like that (since all that stuff is never mentioned anywhere on the box and what not). But I will say, it's sad for the game that it manages to get most people (not without reason) so super pissed and annoyed by the first few levels, that they never see this change and the good part. I myself saw that part back in the day, only because I was ten, had a bad cold, didn't have to go to school and REALLY nothing else to play at some point. :D

I agree that it's not a bad game. The story (except for the first cutscene) is alright, the level and graphics are well designed and cool, the music is okay, but there a lot of unfair things in the game that make it less enjoyable. I wouldn't call it a good game either though.

I think smaller channels aren't given a fair chance on KZbin? What do you think? :/ Because over the weekend I had an epiphany and noticed channels between 0-100 subscribers find it really hard to grow on KZbin... I really want to help channels with 100 or less subscribers, but my channel is barely big enough to grow by itself....., so I'm stuck in a loop trying to figure out how to help smaller channels but I keep going in a idea loop going back too "I can't help them and I'm better off".... This comment is pretty pointless, but does anybody have any ideas? Because I feel KZbin is better off being a community of bigger channels helping smaller channels?

My advice is do crossovers. Crossovers, crossovers and crossovers. I got like 30 extra subs after doing a crossover with a friend that has 500. If you do crossovers with people, and the viewers like your stuff, they'll come sub. I see a lot of people doing the "sub for sub" thing these days and to be honest all you'll be getting from that is an empty sub counter, with no additional views. And since the youtube algorithm favors audience retention and minutes watched, yeah. Also consider joining a small network, if only temporarily, that will get you into a community where you can talk about these things with other youtubers and arrange stuff.

Actually, based off of KZbin's ad-revenue systems, channels with more video watch time daily get more money, so, well established groups like GameGrumps and Rooster Teeth actually have a much better chance of making more money seeing as they can afford to edit/produce high quality gameplay footage/commentary, while new startup channels struggling to get one or two well edited videos out a week get far less money. In fact, Ross did a video on this on his channel about the future of independent animators on KZbin with the current revenue system for its users.

This was painful to watch...they have no idea how to play this game. If they'd just read the novelization of the game ("Improbable: Lester Rises"), they'd know that they need to visit the sword master before they can get past the seagulls. In fact, the seagulls even help with this by dropping you off *right in front of the fucking sword master*, but they were two stupid to press UP-UP-B-Reset-LEFT to have Lester polish his glasses on his shirt, which would reveal the sword master. Pretty fucking typical of Grep.

I feel your pain, my fellow Lestorizer. Games like this back in the day didn't hold your hand like they do today. Hell, I'm not too proud to admit I went through half the game without knowing how to do the dodge roll correctly, or that you had to polish his glasses before striking the turtles to enable Zandatsu mode. And if you remember the final confrontation with Inconceivable Nega-Lester Rebirth, (who could forget?) you know you can't get far without them. But I'd chalk it up to them being raised outside the Lesterverse, where UP-UP-B-Reset-Left, commonly known as the Visual Concepts Code, isn't second nature. Hell, practically no one remembers it's how you activate your Devil Trigger in Trog! for the NES, or access Epidemic Mode in Harley's Humongous Adventure, or even to switch to Mutant League rules in NBA 2K15. I tell ya, Gamefaqs has brought an end to the age of discovery in games.

This was a pretty fun video; I kinda wish they played more of it. See the thing about this is that the farther the game goes the character actually changes to become more competent and daring. the first couple levels (the first one is the worst/most prominent) hes super awkward and handles like a shopping cart. The game also boasts some entertaining albeit simple puzzles. I rented it a bunch as a kid/teen and was never able to broach level 3 if I remember right; It took a lot of practice to get that far since its not one of those things where you could save your progress. That seagull and I became good friends xD Level 2 begins with you having to get out of a cage so you have to figure it out. Its a humble game, but its pretty decent, too.
