Hi I am glad that finally the movie Let It Be is officially released. To me, it was as if it was not that depressing as it always was when watching these illegal copies of it. Maybe because of the clear images and sound, and I think Get Back helped to get a more positive view on Let It Be. Anyway . ... I enjoyed watching it, and I hope there will be a bluray release of it later this year. Take care

I agree, it is a great doc and complements Get Back nicely. Great insight into them working on songs.

I had the same feeling too! I remember watching this before Get Back after an absence of years, and it wasn't as negative as I seemed to remember. This is still a very good watch!

It's superb David ' ...Get Back set us up, so this was expected. I last saw the original film on the day John was taken and I don't think it aired since. The clarity is unreal and I think it pairs nicely with Get Back' ...off to do the 8 hours again '

Yep, I'm off to watch Get Back again too!

Honestly, had never been able to see it before. I wouldn't have known that I was supposed to be seeing a breakup video, had it not been spun that. I guess it was always spun as such since it released a month after the official breakup. But I didn't see anything there that looked depressing or "oh, it's so sad to see it ending" or anything. Yeah, there's the George/Paul scene, but they sound like two old bickering friends... nothing was said that should have been like "oh, that went too far...they'll never recover from this!". Abbey Road's existence proves that. Personally, I enjoyed it!

I have heard the same from so many others. What was supposed to be a negative experience was a good film and worth watching.

@@BrightmoonLiverpool The other perspective is that we're not really even seeing "The Beatles". Not in a Paul's Dead sort of way. But (as you know) John's later comments of how unnatural it was from their normal environment. There's conversation during the film about how it will eventually FEEL normal. But I'm guessing it never did. So you're doing the equivalent of taking a wolf from the wild, putting it in a dog pen, then "studying its behavior" - It's just not the same. And never was going to be. I enjoyed Let It Be - didn't find it depressing at all. And moreover, rather enjoyed the silly moments where I'm suspecting it felt more natural to them. BUT people were looking for break-up evidence given the timing of its release. Maybe...just maybe...hindsight isn't always 20/20. Sometimes it's blinded by expectations.

@@dwayneh91 Well said. It was all about timing, and 1970, when they couldn't even talk to each other civilly, maybe the public were expecting the break up, so we just looked for it?

For years I've only had a dingy bootleg DVD that I could hear more than see. The restored Let It Be is nowhere near as grim as has been suggested all these years. Yes, it's four guys who growing up and starting to go their own ways. Yes, there is creative tension because it's a creative group process but it's amazing to see this band of brothers interact with each other and quickly get past tough moments. If anything, Get Back provides amazing context for the task Michael Lindsay-Hogg had, and his was a daunting one. He did not fail. I'm thankful that we have both these amazing documentaries to experience.

I completely agree. I thought it was such a negative film but it wasn't. It is history and Lindsay-Hogg did an amazing job, as did Jackson. We need them both! Well said. David
