I’m reading a fascinating book entitled Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America by Ijeoma Oluo. As an old (71)white guy with six full decades of perspective, I have to say that Ms. Oluo really nails how the cards have been stacked in my favor whether I knew it or not. As I read the book I had a flood of memories of the things I took for granted as having access to (jobs, education, social opportunities) that were and still are limited and limiting for some Americans. And I grew up the son of a low wage car mechanic, but I still had the significant advantage of whiteness. I watched family members’ racism and misogyny elevate to anger during the 1970s as women and minorities began demanding their rights. For many of them, it hasn’t changed since. It is this bitter animosity and hatred that is at the heart of Trumpism. That’s what MAGA is; the desperate grab for the power whites feel entitled to.

I agree, but the only reason that I am not also one of those racist or misogynistic white males is because I insist on my judging people solely by the content of their character, despite the fact that African-American racists and feminists want to judge me by my sex and skin color. All remedies should be solely NEED-based, and completely color-blind and sex-blind. One of the goals of AA was to create the kind of continuous, multi-generational flow of young blacks having access to and attending higher education, getting their degrees prospering.....rinse and repeat. AA SHOULD have been mandatory at every college and university when it was first implemented, but whiteness and the protection of that whiteness in higher education wouldn’t allow that. Had we done that some 50 years ago, the goals of AA would have been met or would be far further down the line. That would make your needs-based idea more appropriate. What I hear in your suggestion is the reluctance of a white person to accept the idea that an eligible and deserving white student might lose a college slot on the basis of race. Think for a moment how many times a young deserving black student was deemed ineligible solely because of race and has felt that same feeling. There’s an equality to that disappointment, too. That white student has more alternatives for college attendance than that black student in the first place or the black student wouldn’t be looking for AA help. Changing Affirmative Action to needs based so that white people aren’t upset that blacks are actually being helped is not a good enough reason.

@@rogervallecillo292 It all depends on how you decide to interpret those scriptures and decide what you belive about the things you read actually mean. All this talk of " read your bible" is of value however the meaning you give what you read can mean what you want it to mean. Forgivness is not an easy task its not all sunshine lollipops and rainbows. Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you is easily discarded the moment anger enters the situation. Remaing vigilant is the burden. Judging others to be unworthy because they belive scripture means something different is also a battle we must fight to stay on the path. So my advice to you is "understand" your bible outside what you currently think it means. Question your ideas about what things mean they may or may not be valid even though you may currently be satified. The spiritual battle is within oneself "fighting" it out in the world is not the true battle front. In every person there are two voices and you mentioned choices so which voice being listened to is very important. Does one listen to the fearfilled deceptive voice of the ego / the spirit of the antichrist (same thing by the way) or the loving voice of the holy spirit and accept the guidance offered there. Its our choice obviously but we often get lured away easily enough if we arent careful by judging others in a fashion that benefits no one.

What I was trying to point out was that there are Christians that do speak the same way as the ex-muslim did because the Christian faith is filled with references to the engagement of battle in both the spiritual and material sense. Not too long ago the world witnessed the Crusades. The Spanish conquistadors brought Christianity to the new world and not all natives converted by persuasion, many were put to death and it was okay because the Spanish were 'engaged in the battle of the Holy faith'. It's a good thing that the great majority of Christians don't go for that interpretation anymore. But wait, don't we send our troops to fight the extremist Muslims that want to convert the world to their faith. We must stop the caliphate. In May 20, 2011, the phrase " For God and Country " was used as a confirmation signal by the US Navy SEALs during the death of Osama bin Laden. Each side claims that God is on their side. I'm not advocating for either side. Just making the point that there are still plenty people that their religion is a very black and white matter. Us against them. Jews and Arabs. Hindus and Pakistanis. Catholics and Protestants (Ireland ). Christians and Muslims. Throughout history that's been a constant. The Manifest Destiny, that concept was used by the US government, the democrats no less, to justify the war against Mexico, and before that the expansion westward of the newly formed nation and everything that that expansion meant to the people already occupying those territories. I'll leave you with this verse Revelation 11:18. There you have both sides of the argument. Not so hard to interprete or understand, or is it?

I just watched this video and was shocked to see that it was uploaded TWO YEARS AGO.
