Okay but this video feels so special...? 🥺 I remember feeling SO overwhelmed when I first moved to this area, so the fact that I can now confidently navigate it and even find beauty in all its little things makes me so happy. I love knowing local shopkeepers and practising my Korean! I love jogging familiar trails in Namsan Park! I hope I can translate some of my love for HBC in this video ✨ If you happen to visit any of these places one day, tell me!! Comment something cute and little about your home area that you'd only know if you lived there!! 🥰💌

In my village there are a lot of fields, and we have a lot of tourists who come in the summer which can make the area a bit crowded. But there's a place which no one knows about. My Nana showed it to me when I was little and called it 'the secret garden'. If you walk through this hedge you come to a clearing which is impossible to see from the outside. In this clearing there is this massive, old apple tree and in the spring there are so many blossoms, I remember we used to go there to pick apples for her crumble and it always made me feel like I was a part of this big secret, it is so gorgeous, definitely my favourite thing about where I live.

For your in-depth investigation of HBC, HBC region used to be a very poor area up until 1980s . After the Korean war in 1950s, many refugees without houses illegally lived at that hill side. That is why roads and alleyways and buildings inside of HBC are quite complicated. A sort of illegal refugee camp without running water and electricity is the origin of current HBC. HBC (Haebang-chon) itself means 'liberation village' as that village was formed (1)after regaining Korean national entity back in 1945 or (2) after a brief occupation by North Korean communist army.

I've always kind of disliked where I live less because of the place itself and more because I felt like I didn't really have a community there but I am starting to appreciate it more. I guess my favourite thing would be my library it's very big but you always see the smae staff so it still feels personal. I'm always able to find leaflets for events and things there. The best part about it is this little gallery attached to it taht lawys has new exhibits but younger artists. It's always showing some film and it's just a lovely place.
